to tell friend she's accidentally used my baby scan photo?

My baby was born last month and one of my friends is currently pregnant. During my pregnancy, I shared some pictures of my scan photos with her.

A few days ago, she posted a photo of a scan picture on social media. I recognised the scan picture immediately as one of mine. I even dug out the actual scan photo to double check - it is definitely mine that she's used.

She has clearly meant to post a picture of one of her own scan photos, but has accidentally posted one of mine and she hasn't realised what she's done.

I didn't see the social media post when she initially posted it a few days ago. I only saw it for the first time today. Already, tons of people have liked the picture and have made comments, which she has replied to.

I think, if I'd have seen her social media post when she initially posted it, I would have let her know.. but a few days have gone by now and I don't know what to do.

Should I let my friend know she's accidentally used an image of my scan photo? Or, should I keep quiet and just let her enjoy the moment as it's not doing anyone any harm?

YABU - Yes, it would be unreasonable to tell her.
YANBU - No, it would not be unreasonable to tell her.

OP, I would tell her gently before someone else notices it doesn’t add up and questions it. Last thing she wants is if she’s genuinely just mixed the two up, someone notices and starts a load of rumours that she’s lying about being pregnant.

But I’d also make it clear that she’s welcome to keep the photo up if she wants. After all, it’s just a fetus side profile. They are usually quite similar etc

@Thefaceofboe

Post the scans so we can see Grin
Yeah we would need to see! I think a lot of scan pics could look very similar.
Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 14/11/2020 19:29

Is probably day something like "wow our a an photos are so similar" and see if she reacts. Not on social media though, face to face.

SockDrawer · 14/11/2020 19:30

I would send @Nikhedonia ‘s message. And then if she denies it or doesn’t take the hint follow it up with, ‘wait... it is my scan photo!’

SunshineCake · 14/11/2020 19:30

Definitely tell her and I would be telling her to remove it.

LittleTruffle · 14/11/2020 19:33

@PhlegmyHead

How definitely is definitely?
I attended the scan definitely, or "it's hard to get a pillow up the shirt to look that realistic" definitely?

She's 100% pregnant. There's no faking that pregnancy tum and I've felt her baby kick.

How odd. Surely her name and dob is at the top.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/11/2020 19:34

Nah, I wouldn't tell her. No one really looks that closely at them anyway.

SapphosRock · 14/11/2020 19:34

I would send a lighthearted message with a screen shot if your FB post saying either you're both pregnant with one identical twin each or she's used your scan picture by mistake.

catnoir1 · 14/11/2020 19:35

I wouldn't be going down the oh our scan pictures look so similar.

Send something l noticed you've put my scan pic up online, could you remove it please? Not comfortable with everyone on your friends list seeing my baby.

S111n20 · 14/11/2020 19:36

I would have to say something all seems strange.

I am tempted, but won't. It would be very outing for both me and my friend as the photo is very distinctive. It's not your average scan photo. That's how I immediately recognised it.

Can we see the pics ?

S111n20 · 14/11/2020 19:37

Sorry 😐 just seen your reply.

pipnchops · 14/11/2020 19:37

You could comment something lightheaded like "wow your baby is striking the exact same pose as mine did in their scan pic! Congrats" or something like that... And who knows, maybe that is the case? Quite a coincidence though!

It’s a bit weird for sure if it’s genuinely your picture (I wouldn’t have a clue they all look the same to me), but it’s not got anything identifying of you and your child on it so I’d probably just let it go.

Or like some PP said, just casually say it’s weird that yours had the foot in the same position too

Newfornow · 14/11/2020 19:38

Even if you are right Why burst her bubble?
They are named and dated anyway. Unless she cut them off and can’t read I can’t see how she did this without knowing it.

RattleOfBars · 14/11/2020 19:38

I doubt it was a mistake, she would have had to crop your personal details and the date off the top of the image!

Maybe her scan pix weren’t very clear or she didn’t want to pay for them, so she thought you wouldn’t notice her using yours!

They all look much alike on scans so I doubt anyone would notice!

Christmasfairy2020 · 14/11/2020 19:38

How odd as all my scans had my name and dob on them?

Nonamesavail · 14/11/2020 19:39

I would have instantly recognised mine too because my son looked like a snowman.

Ellovera2 · 14/11/2020 19:39

I agree with pp. Message her and say how crazy it is how similar our scans are!?

IhateBoswell · 14/11/2020 19:39

If this was a soap opera I’d say she’s not really pregnant. Far fetched though, eh.

PleasantVille · 14/11/2020 19:40

I often use the search function on Google photos so thinking again maybe she did that, searched for scan and completely forgot that you'd sent her one of yours so actually I can now see how it could happen

Odd that if it's so distinctive she hasn't twigged though

amusedbush · 14/11/2020 19:40

Nobody seems to be reading the part where OP says she cropped out the name and DOB before posting her scan photo on social media, so the friend already had the cropped version...
