to tell friend she's accidentally used my baby scan photo?

LittleTruffle · 14/11/2020 18:54

My baby was born last month and one of my friends is currently pregnant. During my pregnancy, I shared some pictures of my scan photos with her.

A few days ago, she posted a photo of a scan picture on social media. I recognised the scan picture immediately as one of mine. I even dug out the actual scan photo to double check - it is definitely mine that she's used.

She has clearly meant to post a picture of one of her own scan photos, but has accidentally posted one of mine and she hasn't realised what she's done.

I didn't see the social media post when she initially posted it a few days ago. I only saw it for the first time today. Already, tons of people have liked the picture and have made comments, which she has replied to.

I think, if I'd have seen her social media post when she initially posted it, I would have let her know.. but a few days have gone by now and I don't know what to do.

Should I let my friend know she's accidentally used an image of my scan photo? Or, should I keep quiet and just let her enjoy the moment as it's not doing anyone any harm?

YABU - Yes, it would be unreasonable to tell her.
YANBU - No, it would not be unreasonable to tell her.

I wouldn’t worry, all scan photos look pretty similar anyway.

In fact I’ve long suspected that they have a few stock images and give everyone one of those... you may have just confirmed this theory.

Zolaanna · 14/11/2020 20:35

You can't really predict that a friend is going to use it as their own and share it on social media
You've completely missed the point Hmm
If you out your kids ..foetus....whatever out on social media unfortunately you give up a level of privacy and confidentiality.
This is why sharing loads of pics if your acne, babies ,kids is not only boring but also you expose your kids/babies/scans to the whole world. Once it's out there there is nothing you can do.

Of you decide to send people scans then it automatically is out of your control.

Sickofmysalary · 14/11/2020 20:39

OP I can’t believe you’re actually having to explain yourself like this!

I don’t think any good will come from tell her, she will just be super embarrassed. Wonder if she’s got a framed copy in her house too after printing yours accidentally Blush

icedgem85 · 14/11/2020 20:41

No way she is pregnant.

Booksandwine80 · 14/11/2020 20:42

@MrsSchrute

I don’t understand your post 🤣

Onjnmoeiejducwoapy · 14/11/2020 20:46

Sorry but I really don’t believe she’s pregnant. I don’t see how she could accidentally share the wrong photo, I don’t see how she could not have noticed the error—especially if it’s a distinctive photo—she has clearly done this on purpose.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 14/11/2020 20:47

It's just very strange that she could accidentally use your pic.
I have wind that feels like baby kicks 😂

Sorry, I should have pointed out.. when I took photos of my scan pictures, I then cropped out my name/date of birth etc from the top of the image before sharing/posting the image on social media (I try to be careful with online privacy!).

So, the image that she has posted is one of mine with all the personal info cut off the top of the image.[/quote]
That sounds even stranger that she’s used your image. Is she faking a pregnancy.

Lazysundayafternoons · 14/11/2020 20:52

I've had this too for about the last three weeks. Feels so much like baby kicking that I am tempted to buy a test.

I dont think shes really pregnant either.

cateSY · 14/11/2020 20:53

Her scan pic was obviously blurry or fuzzy so she thought she'd use yours for her FB. She sounds weird.

MadameMinimes · 14/11/2020 20:54

How can people still not think she’s pregnant when the OP has said this woman is in her third trimester with an obvious bump and the OP has felt the baby kick? Baffling. The internet is a weird place... I assume these are the same sorts of people who think celebrities wear false bellies in order to fake pregnancies and spend hours poring over pictures of pregnant Beyoncé looking for evidence that her bump was fake.

FAQs · 14/11/2020 20:58

Sounds like a plot from a Channel5 afternoon film.

OwlOne · 14/11/2020 20:59

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult

I wouldn't say anything.

They all look pretty similar anyway and it would be a shame if she felt she had to delete the photo, and the well wishes alongside.

This!
Gifgif · 14/11/2020 21:03

You can search in google photos. She may have searched 'scan' and yours came up.

Redredgreen · 14/11/2020 21:05

What @duckonabike said. If it’s a funny pic maybe the hospital give it to more than one mum so they’ll have a nice scan pic of ‘their’ baby? I’m hoping not but is that possible?

Girlzroolz · 14/11/2020 21:06

It’s been seriously ages since I’ve seen a thread inspire so much writing but so little READING.

I mean, MN makes it so easy to see all the OP’s updates these days. Yet all we get are reactions to Post A for 6 pages.

Not very useful for OP, and very boring for the rest of us.

MrsSchrute · 14/11/2020 21:07

@Booksandwine80 sorry!

To clarify, she told everyone she was pregnant, showed us scan pics, had a bump, went to anti natal classes etc. We all believed her (who wouldn't?), until her boyfriend came to visit, and was very surprised to see her with a bump!
At that point she confessed that she wasn't and never had been pregnant. The scan pics were ones a friend had sent her and she had printed out, and the bump was a prosthetic that she had borrowed from the drama department of the uni!
The weirdest thing was, that her and the boyfriend stayed together!!

howmanyroads · 14/11/2020 21:08

I reckon, if it's her 20 week scan photo, she probably just scrolled too far back in her gallery! Would be different if she'd literally just had the scan and the photo was one of the first

HikerBiker · 14/11/2020 21:08

Maybe she didn’t get a copy of her pic due to covid or something, and just chose a generic scan pic from her phone to put up. Or maybe it was just a mistake.

A bit weird, but not much point in telling her.

SleepingStandingUp · 14/11/2020 21:10

Op of you don't think she's done it to upset you then I'd leave it.

Booksandwine80 · 14/11/2020 21:12

@MrsSchrute

Thank you for clarifying, thought I had drank too much wine 😂how bizarre! Even more so that they stayed together 😮

Wales34 · 14/11/2020 21:16

This is all very odd , first you presented it as your friend has accidentally uploaded your photo , and then you say how unique your photo was ? Is this real ...

OwlBeThere · 14/11/2020 21:17

It makes even more sense that it’s a scan from a couple of months ago.
She has wanted to do a post.
Instead of scrolling back for her scan picture, she’s searched ‘scan’ or something and yours has come up as well.
She’s shared it cos she thinks it’s hers, probably has totally forgotten at some point she screen shot yours (probably if it’s a bit funny that’s why).
Mystery solved.

FlossieTeacakesFurCoat18 · 14/11/2020 21:19

The fact her own scan was a while ago makes it sound even more likely she was scrolling through photos and just went too far back as pp have suggested.

She probably doesn't remember the comments your friends made on your scan photo so hasn't noticed anything weird about the picture. It may be distinctive to you but it probably won't be to anyone else!

Giganticshark · 14/11/2020 21:24

It's just a mistake. They really do all look the same. As soon as your baby is born does anyone ever look at their scan photo anyway?
