Nice to see a MNer doing well.

Don't get me wrong, IT Crowd is brilliant, but every syllable and shot of Father Ted is deranged perfection.

I can watch those Priests trapped in a lingerie department a thousand times and not be bored.

Its the moment Jen goes to the bar and sees Moss and he goes "yes miss" I was dead.

😂😂😂

And then he breaks the pyramid of glasses.

And when her dates cries and said "I thought it would be ok because you looked a bit like a man", god it makes me howl!

Dita73 · 13/11/2020 23:38

Father Ted is one of the best programmes ever made. Saved my life once (true story)

Pebbledashery · 13/11/2020 23:40

@GlummyMcGlummerson 😂😂😂😂😂😂 and when Roy is on the mobility lift. His expression kills me 😂.

Pebbledashery · 13/11/2020 23:41

Another moment in the IT crowd that had me in tears was when Denholm Reynholm just jumped out the window 😂

"How about a sing song boys, it's a long way back to Manchester" 🤣🤣

GlummyMcGlummerson · 13/11/2020 23:50

And the episode where Jen got shoes that were 3 sizes too small and when she took them off her toes were all crossed over each other 🤣🤣

God I think I need a re-watch.

DailyFailstinks · 13/11/2020 23:56

The vote was for the best British sitcom and father Ted is Irish. That might have something to do with it!

Slippy78 · 13/11/2020 23:57

@donquixotedelamancha

They both come in second place to Black Books.

Presumably you also think The Godfather part 3 is the best one in the trilogy, that Ben Afleck is the definative Batman, that Janeway was the greatest Star Trek captain and that Happy Days was at it's height after Fonzie water skied over a shark?

No idea. Never seen any of them.
Pebbledashery · 13/11/2020 23:58

@GlummyMcGlummerson
"Don't you have a look?"
"at what?"
"His buuuuuuum" 😂😂😂😂

ZoeTurtle · 14/11/2020 00:00

I tried to watch Black Books recently. Two episodes and I didn't laugh once, so I gave up.

It was produced by a British company for channel 4.

Both are brilliant but Father Brennan realising Father Ted DID kick him up the arse is one of the funniest things ever!

Ghosts2020 · 14/11/2020 00:07

looking at the list I personally wouldn't have mr bean,this country, the thick of it or peep show on there Don't find any of them overly funny. Also as to your point Father Ted is irish hence the catholic humour. I think IT crowd should definitely be on the list ...whether it should be number one who knows, cuckoo would be a great addition to the list. I love mighty boosh but don't know if it is a sitcom and likewise for the show ghosts.

contactusdeletus · 14/11/2020 00:42

Father Ted is a classic for me, I must have watched it a hundred times over! But I couldn't get into the IT Crowd at all. I watched the first three episodes and it just left me cold. I think it's the cynicism of the humour. Ted might have been bonkers, and it could be absolutely biting about rural life and the Catholic church, but there was a warmth to the show I just didn't get with the IT Crowd.

namechangetheworld · 14/11/2020 01:27

I'm surprised by all of these comments, Father Ted is far superior to The IT Crowd IMO.

Spaced knocks them all out of the park though, what a crime that it isn't on the list. Green Wing and Black Books deserve to be on there too.

MoreLikeThis · 14/11/2020 01:32

I love both shows. It crowd is a little less consistent but it’s still brilliant. I love the bit where Jen has a date with a guy who looks like a magician.

I also love Toast of London. Matt Berry is brilliant.

@jewel1968

I was in studio audience for an episode of Fr Ted many years ago. Love love love Fr Ted!

Which bit was filmed in front of a live audience?

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 14/11/2020 10:57

Love both but IT Crowd just pips Father Ted to the post for me due to the divine Richard Ayoade. Moss is my favourite sitcom character of all time (from a list of Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang), Niles Crane (Fraiser), Richard Rich (Bottom), Jim (Friday Night Dinner) and Karen (Outnumbered)).

CounsellorTroi · 14/11/2020 11:11

Anyone else think Dermot Morgan was really attractive. I was so sad when he died. Much too young.

june2007 · 14/11/2020 11:13

I think they appeal to different audiences tbh. Father ted has funny moments but too toilet humour for my liking.

ZoeTurtle · 14/11/2020 13:00

Where was the toilet humour in Father Ted?!

jewel1968 · 14/11/2020 13:28

@clareBlue the episode I was in the audience for was the roller skating episode. The living room was in the studio and I think the bedroom. They would cut to video clips of the outdoor scenes so we the audience could follow the story.

I can't recall ANY toilet humour in Father Ted Confused Can you give an example?

An almost perfect list @SleepOhHowIMissYou I would take out Richard Rich and replace him with Amy Poehler or Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation)
