Nice to see a MNer doing well.

Don't get me wrong, IT Crowd is brilliant, but every syllable and shot of Father Ted is deranged perfection.

I can watch those Priests trapped in a lingerie department a thousand times and not be bored.

Bought some black paint recently and didn’t want any undertones of chocolate or blue but I ended up saying ‘priests’ sock black, you know’
The assistant snorted through his mask and said yes Grin

Seeing something you think no-one else ‘got’ about you/your life is great and FT just hit more than most. I even liked the Blackadders according to my preferred historical eras. So I don’t think one can be the best as such.

EachandEveryone · 13/11/2020 16:05

It even beats Frasier for me 😃

HPLikecraft · 13/11/2020 16:16

I couldn’t wait to watch The IT Crowd because it sounded right up my street and I love Richard Ayoade, but it sort of didn’t work for me. Gave up after one episode.

Fr. Ted on the other hand is fantastic. If I’m down or worried I just have to think about kicking Bishop Brennan up the arse and I’m smiling and feeling better.

3JsMa · 13/11/2020 16:21

YADNBU,love Father Ted.
Never watched IT CrowdBlush

Piffle11 · 13/11/2020 16:21

@HPLikecraft - try from when Douglas arrives / the funeral episode. Brilliant. And the dinner party one, with Noel Fielding Smile

Not one of my Irish friends find Father Ted funny. Is that the general consensus over there? I love it so much.

Interesting you should say this, my parents are Irish and never got the appeal. My aunt wouldn’t even have it on the TV (she was v devout Catholic though). I love the IT crowd but Fr Ted is the best for me.

MikeFromSpaced · 13/11/2020 16:26

Italics fail 👆🏻

Kolsch · 13/11/2020 16:28

Toothache is funnier than the IT crowd.
Father Ted is brilliant laugh a minute stuff.

TheDogsMother · 13/11/2020 16:53

Father Ted, Alan Partridge and BlackAdder for me. Sadly the IT Crowd never really grabbed me and since someone mentioned Mrs Browns Boys can I just say for the record it is the least funny comedy on TV. Same old, same old.

thecatsthecats · 13/11/2020 16:57

I have to give the edge to the IT Crowd, having personally gone through the Goth2Boss programme to lead a SAAS company despite at best medium knowledge of com-pu-ters.

nosswith · 13/11/2020 16:59

I preferred Father Ted. Though grateful for the opportunity and platform Katherine Parkinson and Richard Ayoade have had from the IT Crowd, both very talented.

nosswith · 13/11/2020 17:00

@TheDogsMother I consider calling Mrs Brown's Boys a comedy a misuse of the English Language.

Hopoindown31 · 13/11/2020 17:02

Perhaps they thought that it was Irish rather than British? It is an odd one as it was produced in Ireland using Irish cast and crew, but it was funded by channel 4 to air on British TV.

TheDogsMother · 13/11/2020 17:04

@nosswith absolutely correct but they keep screening it ad nauseum.

TheySeeHerRowling · 13/11/2020 17:06

I like the IT Crowd but Father Ted is the BEST

wendywoopywoo222 · 13/11/2020 17:11

I don't agree. I love the it crowd but don't get father ted at all.

ghostyslovesheets · 13/11/2020 17:19

I like Father Ted a lot but I re watch the IT crowd much more

thepeopleversuswork · 13/11/2020 17:21

My DD loved Father Ted so much she painted a Bishop Brennan mural on my wall.

She was suitably chastised but I was secretly proud of her.

HPLikecraft · 13/11/2020 17:27

Yes, I've long thought I should give it another go... I think I will. Sometimes you've got to get into a comedy and get onto its wavelength before you can really appreciate it. It can take a couple of episodes to get to know the characters etc.

Saucery · 13/11/2020 17:30

There’s a pacing to Father Ted that The IT Crowd lacks, although I like both. Once I start watching the former it’s hard to stop the episode, but I can walk away from IT Crowd easily.
Black Books sits somewhere in the middle of the two.

vampirethriller · 13/11/2020 17:35

I love wiiilllliiieess

BikeRunSki · 13/11/2020 17:39

FT is the funniest thing ever broadcast

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/11/2020 17:50

I adore Father Ted, but for me Fawlty Towers just has the edge. Never got into the IT crowd, but I admit to having only seen the first episode.

iklboogeymum · 13/11/2020 17:52

They're both sublime. Glinner is amazing. We love spotting his not very well hidden cameos. We got DS a Richard Ayoade signed photo for his birthday.

iklboogeymum · 13/11/2020 17:53

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g - the football episode of IT Crowd is hilarious. DS couldn't breathe for laughing.
