Nice to see a MNer doing well.

Don't get me wrong, IT Crowd is brilliant, but every syllable and shot of Father Ted is deranged perfection.

I can watch those Priests trapped in a lingerie department a thousand times and not be bored.

I'd say overall father Ted is funnier, however the work outing is just perfection.

TheNestedIf · 13/11/2020 00:39

Maybe a priest with experience of the clergy would disagree with me but I found Father Ted far funnier than The IT Crowd, even though I didn't mind The IT Crowd.

I work in IT. The IT Crowd didn't really grasp the true absurdities of working in IT. Working in IT in my company was more like The Thick Of It, only more stressful, more political and possibly even more sweary.

The IT Crowd did get the bit about being relegated to a hellhole of a basement absolutely accurate, though, to be fair. Hmm

TheDowagerDuchess · 13/11/2020 00:40

I love both of these. Blackadder is my favourite ever comedy though, hands down.

NaturesEnd · 13/11/2020 00:44

I adore blackadder, but I have seen it too many times to make me laugh.

TBF, I don’t like being made to choose between things. Better to be greedy and have them all.

EachandEveryone · 13/11/2020 00:53

Not one of my Irish friends find Father Ted funny. Is that the general consensus over there? I love it so much.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 13/11/2020 00:56

Father Ted is a masterpiece

The IT Crowd is worth an award or two

Staffy1 · 13/11/2020 01:11

I quite like the scene in the old priests home, when father Jack is sent there. It's all quiet until the lights go on to a chorus of "arse/feck/drink/girls".

Staffy1 · 13/11/2020 01:14

I love it, also "thin blue line", another Ben Elton/Rowan Atkinson combination.
theThreeofWeevils · 13/11/2020 02:07

Before my Nephew could say 50 words he could say drink, girls, feck and arse. My DSis found out what I was doing before he mastered 'that would be an ecumenical matter'.

@donquixotedelamancha, that might even be funnier than Father Ted. I would have startled the cat had he not been out. I shall re-read later and startle the bugger then. Thank you.

DelphineWalsh · 13/11/2020 02:15

Father Ted is not at all funny. Repeating the same lines in every episode doesn't make it funny no matter how many times you say g'wan.

thanksgivingchi · 13/11/2020 02:17

Father Ted is a masterpiece

This sums it up for me.

I dont know who you hang out with, cos me and all my friends think it's a classic. Regularly drop into conversation the following "this is small....and that is far away" or the classic "that would be an ecumenical matter" ... or "the money was only resting in my account" etc etc
Liddell · 13/11/2020 03:19

I love Father Ted!

I have watched it so many times and it still makes me laugh!

MoonBaby1 · 13/11/2020 03:29

The episode GAY has possibly made me laugh more than anything on tv ever! ‘Willies, willies, I like willies’. ‘It’s i LOVE willies’!

Father Ted is all amazing and a classic though.

FatherTedsBankAccount · 13/11/2020 03:33

My username gives you a clue as to my opinion re: the correct answer.

(And yes, the money was only resting in there. Grin )

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/11/2020 03:44

I love Graham Norton as Father Noel Furlong Grin

Wow, I don't know anyone here who doesn't like it!
EachandEveryone · 13/11/2020 15:36

Maybe its because they are all old school nurses, the stern type that seemed middle aged when they were only 20? I dunno they probably wouldnt like Derry Girls either.

chubbyspice · 13/11/2020 15:41

You regularly see Father Ted table quizzes in Ireland, or you did before lockdown. It's loved in Ireland

Serin · 13/11/2020 15:44

There are online Fr Ted quizzes, we did one in lockdown and came 8th out of 172.

dudsville · 13/11/2020 15:46

Ooh, my OH and I just discussed this. They are both great, different genres, and should be considered equals.

mongoosebaby · 13/11/2020 15:48

Believe it or not, not everyone is a fan of Father Ted. I made the classic 'the money was just resting in my account' joke in a meeting and now I'm pretty sure HR are investigating...Philistines

SurferRona · 13/11/2020 15:51

@Serin....online quizzes? What and where?!! Adore Fr Ted. Funniest sitcom ever.

orangecinnamon · 13/11/2020 15:52

I get really annoyed when Mrs Browns Boys is on the tv as I feel a certain character is absolutely stolen from Father Ted. Angry as you were.
