Will Donald pardon the turkeys or will the turkeys pardon Donald?

I feel bad for his young son. Imagine the ripping that poor boy is getting at school!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/11/2020 20:37

If he is fourteen and six foot seven he will probably get a fair amount of stick at school anyway. People that size at that age tend to: happened to more than one of my ex's cousins on one side of the family, who are all huge.

This sounds just like something Trump would do...

www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/11/11/intelligence-secrets-former-president/

What’s to stop an unscrupulous American president from walking out the door with armfuls of classified information after losing an election? The short answer appears to be: not much. And though experts are openly worrying that Donald Trump might disclose such information after leaving office, it’s worth worrying about the possibility that he might seek to trade in hard-won intelligence for his own purposes.

Trump is a compromised individual who needs money — fast. The New York Times recently reported that he personally owes $421 million in the next four years, to unknown individuals and entities. He might even be on the hook for more than $1 billion dollars across his hotels, golf courses and other buildings.

Those poor counters in Georgia, they could well end up recounting the recount

You’ve probably heard that Georgia — where Biden currently leads Trump by 14,093 votes, or 0.3 percentage points — is going to a recount. Today, we got a bit more detail on what that will look like. Under pressure from his fellow Republicans, who have called for his resignation for unspecified “mismanagement,” the secretary of state announced that the state would conduct a hand recount of the presidential race as part of a legally required audit of the results before the state’s Nov. 20 certification deadline. While the audit itself is routine, the fact that the recount will be by hand instead of by machine is highly unusual and will be a major logistical challenge for counties to complete in the next nine days. In addition, the Trump campaign can request another recount within two days of certification if the margin remains within 1 percentage point. Either recount is highly unlikely to reverse the outcome of the election, given that recounts typically change the results by only a few hundred votes.

Zixxy · 11/11/2020 21:08

So if the recount in Georgia results in a Trump win, surely the Dems can ask for a recount to verify the recount.

I think I have gone down some rabbit hole here.

Lazt · 11/11/2020 21:11

I saw a report that said the ballots in Georgia were going to be recounted by hand, I’m guessing that this is not normal?

And do counts not depend on volunteers? Fucked if I’d volunteer again when the current president is undermining the whole democratic process!

New York starting to lockdown again (from NYT)

“On Wednesday, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York announced that he would be taking such measures. Beginning Friday, the state will limit all private indoor gatherings, including at homes, to 10 people. Bars and restaurants licensed by the state liquor authority will be required to close at 10 p.m., matching a similar curfew in New Jersey, as will gyms.”

Am in ROI, the NY announcement is not anywhere near a lockdown.

We cannot travel more than 5k from home, everything is closed apart from pharmacies, supermarkets and off licenses, although some shops are trying to circumvent the rules lol. Typical. No home visits but can nominate a bubble for those on their own.

Pubs and restaurants shut down.

Similar to UK I understand.

chickenyhead · 11/11/2020 21:21

Isnt this all stalling and bluster to the real trump misconduct?

You know, look over here, whilst I do things over there?

Its so preposterous that a democracy would go through this, for such unlikely change in lead, I just don't believe it. And with no evidence, how can they demand a hand count? If you allow it in one state, surely you open the door to providing a precedent for every other state?

Crazy

ListeningQuietly · 11/11/2020 21:23

Georgia recount is PERFECTLY NORMAL
Please look at the state rules
most states do automatic recount if the margin is less than 0.5%
in Georgia its a 1% margin

same as in the UK if there is not a clear leader they recount

the manual recount
is because the ballot forms are different in every township
but its only the top line that is under dispute
so no point rechecking all the down ballot stuff

quicker to sort all of the ballots by hand based on the top line

FFS the conflation of conspiracy theories when this is NORMAL ELECTORAL PROCESS
gets very tiring

Zixxy · 11/11/2020 21:24

US is no longer a Democracy it is merely a Republic. Well that's what I am seeing at the moment.

No point in getting riled about Trump. Everyone knows now apart from himself and his lackeys.

chickenyhead · 11/11/2020 21:27

OK sorry my mistake

CaveMum · 11/11/2020 21:36

@Zixxy apologies “lockdown” was probably not the best choice of words, “restrictions” would have been better.

Ah hello, no need for any apology whatsoever.

We are just shooting the breeze and getting on with things best we can. Keeping a wry eye on things Stateside.

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom

Hello, and thank you for the new thread *@TheNorthWestPawsage*. I have the BBC on my mind but haven't caught up with the last thread, so apologies if there was the same link on it. This is an interesting analysis of the BBC's famed "balance" as applied to Trump, and how wrong it has been. Love the example of CNBC which just switched him off the other night and said, effectively, he's off his trolley and talking rubbish, just ignore him! bylinetimes.com/2020/11/10/us-election-2020-the-power-of-populist-lies-and-the-bbcs-failure-to-expose-them/?fbclid=IwAR1vaXyimS6If725laigdFOtVJBPBPInexQUIG8H53m1zNfH9Q0qwAypsdY I also think this began when the BBC allowed Farage to take over its airwaves in 2015 and 2016, before the referendum, when he was constantly allowed to put his Brexit point of view totally unchallenged and unquestioned by BBC staff or anybody from the "Remain" side. I'm biding with Biden, I have every hope he will effect a smooth transition and by January 21st, we'll be saying "Trump? Who's Trump?!"
This is a great article thank you and is something that really struck me after watching CNN - that the BBC are just awful so awful and challenge nothing even when factually incorrect.
