Will Donald pardon the turkeys or will the turkeys pardon Donald?

@pinkbalconyrailing

News of the vaccine are somewhat premature.

the press release from the company was for the stock market. a routine thing for new medicines. they usually don't end up in msm, just the stock market pages of business magazines.

Yes. I'm not criticising the company. Just those who are already making plans on it. As far as I read, they still need the same number of people developing COVID, for the study to reach validation level. It may take a while, although given the second wave, it might go fast.

But politicians looking to giving good news may not have considered the logistics involved.

QuestionableDanceMoves · 14/11/2020 11:00

The logistics of rolling out the Pfizer vaccine will be a nightmare- the storage temperature alone will cause huge issues

Whatever gets him through this difficult time.
And allows the US and the next Administration to move on.

nauticant · 14/11/2020 11:12

To me the significance of the vaccine news is that making a Covid vaccine is possible. This might not be the vaccine that has a global roll-out, it might have much narrower applicability, but I'm more hopeful now that a viable wider use vaccine might become available.

Lweji · 14/11/2020 11:49

It can be done. But a lot of work also needs to be done to prepare for it.
This means that 45's ways would mean it wouldn't be distributed effectively in the US.
The company itself will already be working on the logistics of shipment, I understand. But then you need to work out how to give it to the population.

It's a job for the likes of Biden.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/nov/14/republicans-election-donald-trump-fire

A depressing read about what Trump is doing to the country by delaying the transition

^Republicans don’t seem to appreciate how the country as a whole could suffer. Early stumbles in an administration can be catastrophic. The 9/11 commission found that delays with President Bush’s transition prevented him from hiring national security personnel, which in turn left us vulnerable to the attacks. President Biden needs every waking moment between now and 20 January to prepare for the known challenges: a raging pandemic, a tanking economy and a fractured country. The Republican party’s obstinance will amplify those threats and probably create new ones.

Even if violence doesn’t ensue this election cycle – and I fervently hope it won’t – the degradation of democracy will reverberate for years to come. Democratic self-government is not a condition, it’s a practice. The colonies practiced for over 150 years before forming a union, and even then they succeeded only on the second try. We practiced poorly for a century before unshackling our fellow citizens, and it took another 50 years of effort to enfranchise America’s women. We have not been perfect, but we have constantly endeavored to embody our ideals, to ensure that government of the people, by the people, and for the people will flourish in our great nation.

When we begin to doubt that government does reflect and represent the people, we begin to doubt that it ever can.

Republicans are sowing those seeds of doubt. And if we allow them to germinate and grow, we’ll soon find thorny disunion where our manicured garden of democracy once bloomed. No, the gates won’t be overrun and yes, the Biden administration will take office on 20 January.

But we should all worry whether that will be enough. To Republican leaders: democracy needs your help to flourish. Please, put patriotism above party loyalty before it’s too late.^

Quite frankly, his whole nuclear family should have learnt their lesson and stick to reality TV.

It’s going to be sunny weather in D.C., so golf or goons? Difficult decision.

Trump says he may 'stop by' DC rally.
President Trump tweeted Friday that he may "stop by" the planned rally in support of him, "Million MAGA March", in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.
thehill.com/homenews/administration/525899-trump-says-he-may-stop-by-dc-rally
"Heartwarming to see all of the tremendous support out there, especially the organic Rallies that are springing up all over the Country, including a big one on Saturday in D.C. I may even try to stop by and say hello," Trump penned Friday, adding, "This Election was Rigged, from Dominion all the way up & down!"

Ivanka's children withdrawn from school after (their parents) flouting covid guidelines

Lonelycrab · 14/11/2020 13:30

Well I hope it stays as peaceful as possible in DC today. Would be nothing better than the marchers turning up for a fight to find there’s no-one to actually fight.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/11/2020 13:50

What's an 'organic' rally? Sounds a bit 'lefty' to me.🤔 Give me a rally with lots of chemicals and preservatives any day! 😆

That buffoon has no intention of showing up. He's just trying to boost their numbers. The most they'll get (if anything) will be a 'drive by' on his way to the golf course.

OVienna · 14/11/2020 13:50

Kushner kids: conveniently, they'll be well-placed to start a new school in (I'm guessing NY) in January, seeing as they'll be no need to stay in DC.

ListeningQuietly · 14/11/2020 14:30

Ivanka is already back in NY
but has to remember that the Upper East side will remember her actions over the last 4 years.

It will be interesting to see what schools the families use from January

There's a real good article in Vanity Fair about just this. Javanka may think they're going to step right back into their previous social circle. Apparently that circle has other ideas.

They have also lost a lot of goodwill in Palm Beach because of the way the whole family have carried on with their Security teams.
Melania's voting episode made it to the local press, NOT in a good way.

I can't help feeling that the connections Jared has been at such pains to foster will turn out to be a great deal less use to him once he is no longer being a right-hand man of a POTUS. He is not in and of himself a particularly special person, and he'll be tainted by association.

www.curbed.com/2020/11/coronavirus-deaths-covid-memorials-remembering-victims.html

's of November 11, at least 241,000 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States. It’s an almost impossible number to quantify: It’s the 9/11 attacks 78 times over, and it’s approaching the number of Americans killed in action during World War II. But even as thank-you signs, rainbows, and citywide claps have celebrated essential workers fighting the pandemic, “we don’t have any visual iconography or symbols for the people who are dying,” says Kristina Libby of the Floral Heart Project. There’s no COVID equivalent of the ghost bike, or a roadside shrine near the site of a car crash, and any kind of official memorial won’t come until long after a vaccine. Still, some people are working to create public memorials in cities across the country. Here, eight of their stories.'

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/11/2020 15:27

I'm half wondering if Javanka will pitch up somewhere else - especially if they have political ambitions. Whilst daddy didn't follow the usual process of getting political experience first I think they might be inclined to go for a slightly more "standard" approach (Senate or Congress first, or a Governor maybe) and if they are thinking that way then they may choose to settle for somewhere more heavily Republican.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 14/11/2020 16:20

As predicted...

Trump left his bunker to get driven around on the way to his golf course, to see the white supremacist and now-Nazi groups who came to DC. A grand total of a few hundred showed up. What a send off lol.

Bit more info from WaPo report:

A week after the election was called for Joe Biden, hundreds of President Trump’s supporters descended on the nation’s capital Saturday to falsely claim that the race had been stolen from the man they adore — who soon decided to welcome them in person.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Trump drove down Pennsylvania Avenue in his motorcade, greeting hundreds of cheering protesters who ran to the side of Freedom Plaza and clambered to catch a glimpse. He smiled and waved from a car window as people filled the street to follow behind.
“He drove right past me. I saw him. He waved right past me,” one man said, squatting to collect himself.

A group of women huddled around their phone, looking at a video they took of Trump’s appearance.
“He looked fake,” one said. “I’m still shaking.”

The demonstrators, who include white nationalists, conspiracy theorists and far-right protesters from across the country, began arriving Friday afternoon, where they found a White House surrounded by steel barricades adorned with a 15-foot-long, black and white sign declaring that he was not, in fact, the election’s winner: “LOSER.”
Just before sunrise Saturday morning, that and a matching sign — “FAILURE” — were taken down by federal officials from inside the fencing, according to two witnesses, including activist Nadine Seiler, who recorded the scene.
“Trump is still a loser!” she shouted.

After enduring months of protests over racial injustice that, in rare moments, exploded into fiery violence, Washington didn’t know what to expect from the day’s rallies. Would the Trump supporters number in the dozens or the hundreds? Would they protest peacefully, as some had promised, or would they start a “bloody fight,” as one of their leaders had suggested?

Bursts of hostility — mostly shouting and profanity — between conservative groups and counterdemonstrators had already started Friday, ratcheting up the anxiety in a city where many stores and offices remained boarded up. D.C. police made two arrests, charging a a 25-year-old from Virginia with threats to bodily harm and a 33-year-old from Hawaii with assaulting an officer.
