Will Donald pardon the turkeys or will the turkeys pardon Donald?

I think the GOP will select Pence to run in 2024. That way they’d get the Trump base without Trump.

CaveMum · 13/11/2020 13:23

@Coquohvan

Thinking about Trumps thoughts about running again. How does he get to that point. I mean is there nominations run off etc he’d need to do. Does he need to be nominated.

Wishful thinking that all the GOP members would not all be for that.

To run as the GOP candidate he needs to be officially confirmed as the candidate at the Republican Convention. If he fails to get the nomination then there’s nothing stopping him running as an independent candidate, but the odds of him succeeding without a party (and their money) behind him are very low.

In previous times they'd have the shredders running 24/7 but I'm assuming the Trump administration didn't bother much with paper for internal communication and so will be contemplating data scattered all over the place, through hundreds of devices and indeterminable Internet servers, where the much of the data will be accessible if Californian tech companies chose to not put up much of a fight.

NonCisWoman · 13/11/2020 13:37

What did Trump say to Biden in the hallway of the White House?

"Pardon me"

Roussette · 13/11/2020 13:39

Talking about shredding docs... I read that certain members of the Administration like Stephen Miller...never used email to communicate unless he realy had to. For this very reason.. evidence.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/11/2020 13:41

We know Biden won it but now the news sites seem ready to call it (again!)

From WaPo:
Biden flips a fourth state, adding Arizona to his projected wins.

Also from WaPo:
As Trump stews over election, he mostly ignores the public duties of the presidency.

www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-ignores-duties/2020/11/12/02bfbc36-2507-11eb-a688-5298ad5d580a_story.html

On Thursday, six American service members were killed in a helicopter crash during a peacekeeping mission in Egypt. Tropical Storm Eta made landfall in North Florida, contributing to severe flooding. The number of Americans infected with the novel coronavirus continued at a record-setting pace, sending the stock market tumbling.

At the White House, President Trump spent the day as he has most others this week — sequestered from public view, tweeting grievances, falsehoods and misinformation about the election results and about Fox News’s coverage of him.

Neither he nor his aides briefed reporters on the news of the day or reacted to Democratic leaders who accused Republicans of imperiling the pandemic response by “refusing to accept reality” over the election results.

The contrast between the nation grappling with an ongoing global crisis and a president consumed with his own political problems highlighted a fundamental contradiction at the heart of Trump’s assault on the integrity of the U.S. election system: He is leveraging the power of his office in a long-shot bid to stay in the job while ignoring many of the public duties that come with it.

“It seems clear Trump has checked out,” said Norman Ornstein, a political scientist at the conservative American Enterprise Institute who has criticized Trump. “It’s not like this guy has shown a great interest in governing for four years, so to expect he will now accelerate the pace is a little fanciful. It’s pretty clear he feels wounded. Under those circumstances, the idea he’s going to pay more attention to the details of governance is ridiculous.”

White House aides disputed the notion that Trump was reneging on his responsibilities as president, releasing a list of executive actions he has taken since the election. The list included an order Thursday banning U.S. investment in Chinese military companies, an emergency declaration for Florida over the storm damage and several presidential proclamations, including celebrating the 245th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps.

“Any suggestion that the President has given up on governing is false,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement. “Just as he promised, President Trump is fighting hard for a free and fair election while at the same time carrying out all of his duties to put America First.”

Deere added that Trump is continuing to work on a “meaningful economic stimulus” to deal with the pandemic, but such legislation appears all but dead on Capitol Hill. The president met privately with Vice President Pence for lunch and with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in the afternoon, according to his public schedule.

Tom Joseph appears to think they will have sold information to Russia 🤔

Coquohvan · 13/11/2020 13:42

Thank you all for the explanations.

nauticant · 13/11/2020 13:46

Years back I worked for an organisation that was utterly paranoid about information being electronically stored and they continually reinforced the message that nothing must be sent or stored electronically. This meant we were continually losing a sense of where we were and the replication of effort and the uncertainties were an absolute pain. The organisation was global which meant interminable telephone calls often retreading what had already been done but forgotten or become uncertain. It was a shit way to operate.

If you were/are glued to CNN’s coverage of the election then you may be as big a fan of Abby Phillip and her astute reporting and clear analysis as I am. She is definitely one to watch. I hope she’s doing the Georgia run offs coverage.

That Trump library is FAB
And it will have to be virtual, as almost all of the "documents" related to his administration.

I wonder if he'll ever build his, although it is the only thing he should be marginally good at - building.

Yes Abby Phillip on CNN was great, enjoyed watching her through all of this

AcrossthePond55 · 13/11/2020 14:46

I'm sure it's a shred-and-delete-a-palooza right now at the WH. Plus running from office to office (and attic to kitchen) trying to get signatures on updated NDAs. The great thing is that any 'regular' govt employee cannot be made to sign one as condition of employment nor be fired for refusing.

They're looking for incriminating documents with the same blood hound nose that a house-proud homemaker tries to locate and eradicate the source of a nasty smell.

Trump library is an oxymoron really.

The shredders must be running 24/7 but I wonder how many of those insiders have saved receipts to protect themselves, to trade in the event of prosecution, or for the 'tell all' book deals.

None of which merited a single tweet.
Biden tweeted about the peacekeeper's death. I flicked over to see if Trump did, but he was in the middle of his rant against Fox and telling his followers how they could get OANN instead

Trump's lawyers tried to file a lawsuit in Michigan -- and somehow missed. They actually filed it in an oddball D.C. court, hundreds of miles away.

Arizona has now been called for Joe Biden- he’s the first Democrat to win it since 1996. Georgia is outstanding, pending the hand recount. V difficult to see Biden’s margin of 14000+. Trump likely to win NC.

So Biden will flip/is likely to flip 5 states and NE2. Heading for 306.

lionheart · 13/11/2020 15:53

Trumpies are on the march this Saturday.

www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2020/11/12/far-right-extremists-heading-washington-amid-talk-trump-coup

'A cluster of far-right extremists including neo-fascists, white nationalists and militia members are expected to descend on Washington D.C. Saturday, amidst President Trump’s refusal to accept his loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

Far-right turnout could be significant. Pro-Trump protesters have already arrived in the thousands at so-called Stop the Steal events, even those staged in smaller cities like Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Pro-Trump figures have been promoting the D.C. event for over a week. The Saturday event also coincides with Trump and his allies espousing increasingly anti-democratic views about his loss.'
