To be annoyed at people shopping in families/couples?

Nicknamegoeshere · 08/11/2020 16:37

So I went to the supermarket to do my weekly shop today. Left the baby and my OH at home as I understand the current rules re Covid to be shop alone where possible.

Now I totally respect that in certain circumstances there has to be exceptions to this rule e.g. for lone parents, shopping with a vulnerable person etc.

However, there were a huge number of large families (with both parents) shopping today, lots and lots of couples (young/middle-aged) etc.

Why are so many people blatantly ignoring the guidance?

@Mrsmorton

MaxNormal Tbh I'll carry on shopping with DH whenever I feel like it because I don't really care about other people.

Fixed that for you.

Exactly.

People like this clearly don't understand the concept of "viral" or "asymptomatic transmission." So utterly and willfully selfish.

Rosebel · 14/11/2020 14:02

I find it sad that people continue to justify their selfish decisions. My partner can't shop on their own. Really, how old are they? 9?
It's a bloody pandemic, why do you want to risk infecting others? Or getting ill yourself?
My parents used to shop together as my mum can't drive. Now my dad goes on his own and usually gets the wrong stuff but it's still edible so does it matter? These are not normal times and we need to adapt.
I'd be amazed if this lockdown works as no one can be bothered to think about other people.

Ethelfleda · 15/11/2020 07:33

Thank fuck I have delivery slots.
I just can’t be arsed mixing with the general public right now... and not just because of Covid!!

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 15/11/2020 11:02

We go together because we both like different things. Both at work all week for very long hours and quite frankly its one of the only things we get to do together. Covid is not going away any time soon so we just can't stop living whilst its about. Stay at home with your baby and you do you but personally im sick of it all and want to go to the shop with my husband. Don't even start with me about covid guidelines as I'm a front line NHS worker and know them inside out. It's not law its guidelines. We wear the necessary PPE and respect other shoppers etc. I'm sick to death of the frickin Covid Law Posse. Wish I had the chance to stay at home with my family on 80% pay doing fuck all and then I might be sick of the sight of them id go shopping on my own but as it is I don't have that choice so, sad as it seems, going to Aldi on a Saturday with my husband is a treat from the drugery of working for the NHS

Miljea · 15/11/2020 17:24

'MaxNormal

But we wear FFP2 masks, and keep socially distanced, and am in and out in 10 minutes.

So I'll keep on shopping with DH.

Some might say 'So you do you'...

Miljea · 15/11/2020 17:27

Sorry, MaxNormal, that makes it look like that was what you originally posted, as opposed to the oh-so-clever 'fixed that for you' response I C&P. Apologies!

I agree with your original sentiment, that if you want to go shopping with your DH, you will.

Skipsurvey · 15/11/2020 19:47

There must be more to life than shopping with your partner that you have to Hmm

Skipsurvey · 15/11/2020 19:47

Is there nothing else?

lovepickledlimes · 15/11/2020 19:49

@Skipsurvey well everything else is shut and the weather is hardly inviting for a walk outside in the winter

DarkMintChocolate · 16/11/2020 11:47

@lovepickledlimes

Its still relatively warm! We go out for a walk in the country every weekend, all the year round, and usually go to Norfolk or Suffolk for a weekend's walking in January - March. During lockdown, we go out late afternoon or evening, every other day for a walk in the local wildlife reserves.* Its not yet minus 10 with the wind chill factor or a complete white out, which is where I draw the line - and even DH said it had put him off Arctic expeditions.

Atm, the pavements, parks and wildlife reserves round here are like the M1 - we have never seen so many people out walking at weekends!

*Before people complain, its ok for us to go out for a walk everyday - I've been caring 24/7 for DD for £67.25 per week, and she typically got up between 3 am and 4.30 am to put the television on, which disturbed our sleep. We found taking her out every day, was the only way to get her to sleep until 7 am, and I find it too stressful to take her out by myself.

lovepickledlimes · 16/11/2020 12:00

@DarkMintChocolate well I am glad the weather has been nice for you. Nothing but cold miserable rainy weather here 80% of the time

SBTLove · 16/11/2020 12:06

are you unable to write a list??
It’s the couples trailing 2/3 kids with them, nobody needs an entire family to go to Asda.

DarkMintChocolate · 16/11/2020 13:57

@lovelimepickle

No, the highlight of our week was buying a takeaway hot chocolate on Saturday, after going in the pharmacy and supermarket (one went in, while the other stayed outside), and sitting on a bench to drink it in the pouring rain! Pouring rain does not matter, when we have a good coat on.

As I said, I now refuse to walk on the East coast, when it feels like minus 10, or we can’t see anything, because the countryside is covered in in snow and ice.

Devora13 · 21/11/2020 09:05

'It's guidance it isn't law.'
It's guidance for a reason. Wake up and smell the ventilator people!
It's only guidance to wash your hands, do you choose to ignore that too?

Nicknamegoeshere · 21/11/2020 10:21

Re guidance and the law...
You know they say wearing a face covering is "mandatory"? What's the difference between that and "compulsory"? Is there any?

OP posts:
BeigeFoodLover · 21/11/2020 10:40

@Nicknamegoeshere

Don't people get why more than one person shopping increases risk? Or do they simply not care? So, in essence, people are putting lives at risk because they "like shopping together" or see it as a bit of a jolly out?!!
Maybe you should shop online if you’re they worried?
Crumbleandcake · 21/11/2020 10:41

There's nowhere else for them to go as a family. Guidance isn't the law.

Walking? Bike riding?

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2020 10:44

Can't quite believe this thread is still going. It's been nearly a week. Grin

BeigeFoodLover · 21/11/2020 10:45

I should also add, we usually have our shopping delivered. But sometimes pop to the spa together to choose a bottle of wine and some chocolate when we have our evening walk around the block.

Ooh you must be loaded to be able to afford Spar prices. Grin Our local one is so expensive, Waitrose is cheaper!
BeigeFoodLover · 21/11/2020 10:57

Pahahah - you’re so right! It’s because when I do the online shop I say ‘right, no wine in the week, this is getting silly now.’ And then we finish work, have battled homework, and both look at each other and go ‘wine’. We should just accept we’re drinking every night and order it for cheaper... sadly we are still in denial! 😬🤣

BeigeFoodLover · 21/11/2020 11:07

Oops forgot tag you in @Sparklingbrook 🤦🏻‍♀️

firesong · 21/11/2020 11:28

I agree with you OP. Obviously there are different circumstances, but those who are doing it just because they always have are being unreasonable.

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2020 11:32

@BeigeFoodLover

Oops forgot tag you in *@Sparklingbrook* 🤦🏻‍♀️
I have done exactly the same. Just have a walk up to Spar for some wine and the prices are eye watering. But no actually buying it as part of the big shop because we don't need it. Grin
MarthasGinYard · 21/11/2020 23:25

They were all out in shopping entourage earlier
