To be annoyed at people shopping in families/couples?

So I went to the supermarket to do my weekly shop today. Left the baby and my OH at home as I understand the current rules re Covid to be shop alone where possible.

Now I totally respect that in certain circumstances there has to be exceptions to this rule e.g. for lone parents, shopping with a vulnerable person etc.

However, there were a huge number of large families (with both parents) shopping today, lots and lots of couples (young/middle-aged) etc.

Why are so many people blatantly ignoring the guidance?

It's about so much more than social distancing, it's about how many people can get into the store to do their shopping. When supermarkets are people counting one person, one trolley means more households can get their shopping done.

Exactly! So the likes of @Nicknamegoeshere saying couples are spreading Covid is not correct.

It's two different arguments.

Bookworming · 10/11/2020 14:46

@user1471447863 do YOU NOT UNDERSTAND that the supermarkets have set a maximum level that is deemed SAFE?

Bookworming · 10/11/2020 14:49

@ultragroupie you bought what?

Jaffa Cakes are essential!

You can imagine all these shoppers inspecting other peoples shopping and judging away! How is ice cream essential, how is taste the difference sausages essential! Blah blah!

Get a life!

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2020 14:56

If you do Self Scan and pack as you go along nobody can see what you have bought. Wink Just put the salad/veg on top of the biscuits. Grin

This is also something I don't understand, and yes it comes under the 'doing things differently to me' thing so shoot me now. Not doing Scan as You Shop if it's available. It's the best thing ever while a pandemic is on, your shopping is touched once by yourself, no need to queue at the till/conveyor and if you use the App you don't even need the handset. In and out.

Nicknamegoeshere · 10/11/2020 15:04

But if one person in the household has Covid, other person in household more likely to have it rather than two people fro two separate households, no?
And what about families shopping? That is also increasing risk.

Please do link your stats for that?

Or you could say, if one family are safe then less exposure to loads of different families would increase risk?

@Sparklingbrook I actually do online shopping and have not yet been berated for non essential items! Grin

I'm just fed up with people policing how others shop, what they but etc!

Morrisons are currently advertising six bottles of wine for £30 (I can recommend the Campo Viego - normally £8 per bottle) so why are they advertising it, got huge signs at their stores advertising it a d yet the MN hierarchy would deem in non essential and judge you for buying it.

Hilarious 😂

That's great-if you can get one of those illusive slots! I can assume both the picker and delivery driver are judging you big time. Grin

I think Waitrose were doing a similar wine offer it may have finished now , and they have all their Christmas goodies out too. All completely non essential but very nice. I may have bought some non essential mince pies.

Bookworming · 10/11/2020 15:40

@Sparklingbrook slots here seem to be easy! Not sure why, not sure if it is all shops but certainly Morrisons,.

I could go on now and slots available from 22nd which whilst a little way ahead it's not dreadful.

Blueberries0112 · 10/11/2020 15:41

What's the point of lockdown?

user1471447863 · 10/11/2020 15:42

If unnecessary people are not in the shop they can neither spread covid to other shoppers/staff nor can they catch it from other shoppers/staff.

ArranBound · 10/11/2020 15:44

I'm disabled and spend a lot o my life stuck at home. If I'm up to it, a trip to Asda is as exciting as it gets. I'm not going to apologise for it.

I think in these parts you can get a Click and Collect but actual delivery is tricky. I think some supermarkets are prioritising the vulnerable/shielding which is understandable.

Bookworming · 10/11/2020 15:47

What's the point of lockdown?

Not sure, most shops are open, loads not essential.

Perhaps direct your question to BJ?

hf2345 · 10/11/2020 16:18

Find something better to do , barely anyone’s following the stupid shit rules who cares anymore , not me that’s for sure.

Blueberries0112 · 10/11/2020 16:19

My question point out to people who treats grocery stores as an outing or therapy . Or family time.
There other ways to do that but grocery store is not one of it.

We take our daughter to a park, sometimes we take her to the dog shelter and little things like that but I usually leave her home with her dad while grocery shopping I nless he can't watch her.

I mind my business and I will not go up and chastened people but I do want stores to post signs to remind people to be considerate of other people who are at high risk and keep the number of party low.

A woman who is taking chemo treatments and have no one with her at the moment and need to shop for food is one of the people we need to be considerate.

hf2345 · 10/11/2020 16:22

Don’t go shopping then if your high risk @Blueberries0112

My sister and i tried food delivery and it was horrible. You had to order two weeks ahead for one, and they didn't provide everything we needed. I had to go in and get what I needed. My daughter have food allergies so I have to read the label . I can't have them substituting things for me
Bookworming · 10/11/2020 16:28

@Blueberries0112 you do not have to order two weeks ahead, you need to reserve a slot two weeks ahead but can edit and add to your order until very close to the day of delivery.

That way you'll get less substitutes as they know what they have or haven't got.

I am in the states, it was horrible

Bookworming · 10/11/2020 16:30

Oh well, not even sure if you have lock down in the states do you? Or if restrictions are in place for supermarkets?

Not anymore but we did in Virginia. The rule still applies and we are doing a lot of social distancing, my work place is not doing dining area and my husband works at home and the kids only go to school two days a week if they didn't choose 100% virtual
exiledfromcornwall · 10/11/2020 16:55

We shop together if it is a big shop, as it's so much easier at the till with two. However, we are retired and we always go when it is quieter. I feel for people who work who can only shop at busy times if there are big family groups, so I can see both sides.

BluebellsGreenbells · 10/11/2020 17:31

I would also add if 500 families need food, then the min people visiting the shop is 500.

Add a partner that’s 1000 people and children and the numbers add up significantly
