Aibu? Are you really following lockdown rules?

I work and kids are at school but I've been following the lockdown rules. Not met anyone. I know I could bubble up as I'm a single parent. Anyway i spoke to my sister and parents today and they have all met up together. Sister has 2 kids and a husband, the kids go to school and they both work. My parents are still relatively young and work, no health issues. They also still have my other sister at home who also works. I was abit shocked but they just laughed and said they don't care they will still meet up. I'm not pissed off I'm more disappointed with them. Aibu for feeling like that? Just been told I need to lighten up as i told them they are breaking the rules.

I am. Probably go to the shops too often for some on here but I am following the rules in general.

joystir59 · 12/11/2020 05:32

Cases are on a sharp rise in my town suddenly so I'm being very careful at work which is my only risky time.

Frownette · 12/11/2020 05:42

Does anyone else find that they 'grade' different hand sanitisers in shops?!

For example the local costcutters one is very watery and I have to walk around very slowly rubbing it in, nearest supermarket is my favourite one, and a nearby international store has quite a fetching cucumber and mint one

WanderingFruitWonderer · 12/11/2020 05:43

Yes, I'm a natural social distancer too Frownette so it's quite easy for me.
I recognise that it's harder for some personality types than others. It's really very easy for me. I love being alone in the wilderness with books. Never been a party animal. I feel sympathy for the extroverts at this time.
Anyway, I hope it all works out with your friend. I'm sure you'd be allowed to do that, as it's providing care. But hopefully we'll be out of lockdown by then anyway. Best wishes

@WanderingFruitWonderer that's sweet of you, thanks Smile

It must be difficult for more tactile people

WanderingFruitWonderer · 12/11/2020 05:53

Ooh, yes, I do that with sanitiser Frownette! I've got through so much of the stuff.
Superdrug own brand is my favourite - a nice gel consistency, a lovely range of scents, and not tested on animals, which is extremely important for me. I recommend it!

Yes, following the rules here. It's only a month FFS.

My FIL isn't following them though, so you aren't the only one with wayward relatives!

TheMoonIsFlat · 12/11/2020 05:57

Yes, followed all the rules until now. I'm on holiday abroad, not against "the law" but against guidelines.

Is it only a month? Depends where you live. My parents are on month 8 having had a month of respite.
Silentplikebath · 12/11/2020 12:15

Yes, I’ve been following all the rules. Unfortunately, some of my relatives haven’t followed the guidelines and today I have found out that they now all have the virus. One of them is vulnerable and I’m so worried Sad

For fucksake indeed. It is NOT only a month for thousands of us who have been in this since March, with barely any time out of either full lockdown or tier 3.

Most people can manage a month. But almost eight months of this in places like Leicester, Blackburn and Oldham is having a serious impact on people's mental health.

FWIW, I'm still following the rules. But I can see why people I know are starting to flex them - after so long in this and with no suggestion we'll be out any time soon.

"Only a month."
"Only a month."
"Only a month."

Does Saint Boris know this?

Has he sworn, on his grave, that it will be ONLY A MONTH?

Or is he going to come out with "actually, I need to squeeeeeeeeeze the brakes again, someone lied to me about a vaccine, or the vaccine is a week late, so pleeeeeeeeeeeease give me another month, and I am truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuly sorry about Christmas, and those businesses which were planning to reopen on 2nd December, and pleeeeeeeeeeease don't cram into the shops and spread the virus.... (Sunak whispers in his ear)..... oh actually, pleeeeeeeeeeeease do so, I neeeeeeeed you to spend the money you don't have."

Pugdogmom · 13/11/2020 19:29

Following the rules here. DH has health issues, so don't have a choice. Know loads of people who have tested positive. A friend lost her uncle on Friday to Covid. Our area has high number of cases. Just praying that numbers reduce enough so that we can have some sort of Christmas and see our families. DD is having a strop over her birthday in 2 weeks because I won't let her break rules ( she does have MH issues), so it's a shitshow, but need to keep going.

SomewhereEast · 13/11/2020 19:33

Yes actually, despite not even agreeing with lockdown Grin. Though my impression from friends etc is that people are mostly doing a Pick'n'Mix lockdown this time round - mostly following the rules but granting themselves little exemptions along the way.

Devora13 · 21/11/2020 09:11

Let's all not follow the rules. Why wash our hands, it's just an attempt at enforcing compliance by the government, isn't it?
And when someone we care about gets sick, let's blame the government. Because after all, nothing is ever our fault or our responsibility.
