To think 47 spare pillowcases is a borderline psychopathic number?

I've just been attempting to bring order to the chaos of the linen box in DHs house and made this disturbing discovery. For context, we've no DC, there are lodgers but they have their own linen. We have four pillows on the bed.

YABU - 47 is an acceptable number
YANBU - DP is clearly unhinged/has a niche bedding fetish/used to run a brothel

It's clearly an unacceptably low number and does indeed denote some kind of psychological disorder, although I might hesitate to make a precise diagnosis without further detail (are the pillow cases floral/patterened/plain, for example?)

La Redoute has a 2 for 1 sale on in the homeware section. I suggest you make haste.

grey12 · 07/11/2020 10:26

I would go for 3 times the amount of pillows, some people do 2 but that can be cutting it short.

I must say my mum does have quite a lot but they're inherited so she feels bad about giving away good linen that also reminds her of her family/childhood.... could that be the case?

Flamingopants · 07/11/2020 10:31

Are they good quality luxury linens or cheap ones?

Merryoldgoat · 07/11/2020 10:31

Yes - I like enough for 1 set in the wash, one clean and one on the bed plus a few extra.

For us that would 36-40 pillowcases. Sounds ludicrous when I write it down... Blush

Ginkypig · 07/11/2020 10:36

To be honest if it was anything else I’d agree but

pillow cases take up so little room
they are so handy
Sometimes you need to change them more often than the bedding if it’s hot or you are ill etc
Spare ones are great for using as a laundry bags
I use spare ones to put sets in.
Occasionally if I’ve moved house or needed to transport something. pillowcases make the perfect soft wrap material instead of bubble or newspaper.
Every so often a cotton one gets relegated to my mirror/window cloth as they are great for streaky glass!

I do agree but I wouldn’t get rid either except if most of them are sweaty faced cheap non cotton then any argument for their use to sleep on completely disappears!

MiddleClassMother · 07/11/2020 10:38

I have a lot of pillowcases as I change them daily. They take up so little room so why not? We have 8 each plus some spares for the guest room. So I have at least 40.

Ginkypig · 07/11/2020 10:38

If you are getting rid of them and they are cotton il take them Grin

witchOfTheWest · 07/11/2020 10:41

We've 2 double beds, a super king size and 2 singles. That works at at 16 cases on the go at once. Given that we have multiple choices of bedding for each bed, we've probably got close to 100 pillow cases! 😳 Never even thought about it before!

VallarMorghulis · 07/11/2020 10:45

Ha ha YANBU OP, definitely not! That's a crazy number!

If you're a bit crafty, you could make pillowcase dresses out of them and send them to little dresses for Africa

ginghamtablecloths · 07/11/2020 10:53

It does seem rather a lot but then did he inherit some from family? That would have bumped up the amount if they were too good to throw away. I own maybe a dozen and that's more than enough for just me.

Iwantacookie · 07/11/2020 10:54

How can you have an odd amount of pillow cases? Confused

Nottherealslimshady · 07/11/2020 10:57

We've got two (I think) dont quite know where the cushions are though, having decorative cushions on the bed lasted about a week.

Nottherealslimshady · 07/11/2020 10:59

Sorry thought it said SQUARE like them square cushions you put on for prettiness.
We have two pillows on the go, and have 6 pillowcases, because have 3 quilt covers.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 07/11/2020 11:01

Why is it DH's house?

Where are your pillow cases?

Why not?

You can buy them singally
They come single with single bed duvets

One of a pair might get spoilt

One might be in the loft wrapped around a Christmas ornament

One might be a dust protector on an antique lamp

Felifox · 07/11/2020 11:03

I bought a job lot of linen at auction and had loads of new pillow cases. Just sorted them out to be made into Santa sacks for children.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/11/2020 11:27

I have one set of bedding for each bed. So, two duvets and 8 pillowcases. Anything else would be bourgeois extravagance.

😱 Daily?

Easily. Some get damaged, lost, buy just a single one.

I have odd number of socks

LostAcre · 07/11/2020 11:38

That seems excessive.

Was he given a lot by relatives?

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/11/2020 11:41

Ivecstill got my childhood pillow cases, so I certainly have more than I need. Not 35 more than I need though!

MummytoCSJH · 07/11/2020 12:08

Too low? I have 8 for my king bed, 4 for ds single. 2/4 pillows usually on the bed which I switch when I wash, then switch back when the second set need washing. 47 is loads! Shock

tmh88 · 07/11/2020 12:08

I have just counted mine and I have 22 pillow cases! One double bed and one toddler bed! Smile think I need more now as using them instead of bubble wrap is such a good idea I would of never thought of that before this thread!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/11/2020 12:11

I have a lot of pillowcases as I change them daily.

Daily? How gross. I change mine hourly. And half hourly at weekends.

kowari · 07/11/2020 12:19

We have two per pillow. I wash them weekly with the towels and replace with the ones from the airing cupboard. Could get by with one set but I'd have to wash them in the morning and put them on the radiators.
