To think 47 spare pillowcases is a borderline psychopathic number?

I've just been attempting to bring order to the chaos of the linen box in DHs house and made this disturbing discovery. For context, we've no DC, there are lodgers but they have their own linen. We have four pillows on the bed.

YABU - 47 is an acceptable number
YANBU - DP is clearly unhinged/has a niche bedding fetish/used to run a brothel

Well it is nearly Christmas, and while I don’t know about the rest of you in our family FC always used to leave the presents in a pillow case so I can see that over the years a goodly stock could have built up because he never called back for the empties.

These days FC leaves his presents mostly in John Lewis bags. And I can’t help thinking if only he’d set up a decent post Christmas pillow case recycling system the planet would be in a much healthier state.

No idea as live in a mess and everyone just gets us more "stuff"... Have a terrible feeling I may have more.... ( Non matching, non cotton)

BarbaraofSeville · 07/11/2020 12:31

If you are getting rid of them and they are cotton il take them

Me too, we only have about half a dozen and a couple of those have actually just worn out. I went to Ikea the other day to buy more than they didn't have the ones I wanted so I didn't bother. Which i now realise was a stupid decision.

BarbaraofSeville · 07/11/2020 12:32

But back to the OP, yes 47 does seem like an extraordinary large amount.

But then again, I probably have 47 jumpers and I hardly wear any of them currently because I WFH and I can't wear nice jumpers at home because the cats ruin them.

boredinthouse · 07/11/2020 12:37

Just counted and we have 16. That's for 3 adults and three children. 47 seems like a huge number of pillows to have!

kowari · 07/11/2020 12:37

@viques We had pillowcase sized cloth sacks, but always left out empty on Christmas Eve.

boredinthouse · 07/11/2020 12:37

I've added an extra adult, 2 adults and 3 children I meant.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/11/2020 12:41

I’ve counted mine.
27.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/11/2020 12:42

One of them is a Wombles one from 1976, never throwing it away.

HoppingPavlova · 07/11/2020 12:43

A bit excessive. I have 8 per person here as we do new pillowcases nightly. Sheets may stay on the bed for 8-10 weeks without being changed (no ones ever died and no son issues etc), but I have trained everyone to have a clean pillowcase every night. Wash them once a week so we have a large pile with several people in the house.

HoppingPavlova · 07/11/2020 12:46

But back to the OP, yes 47 does seem like an extraordinary large amount.

It does of just 2 people, but we have 6 people (so 6x8 pillowcases) plus 4 pillowcases for guest bedding so a total of 46 in our linen closet and 6 on our beds at any one time. Obviously during course of the week the pile of 46 goes down each day until I wash once a week and the pile is replenished.

Wingedharpy · 07/11/2020 12:49

That sounds a bit " fur coat and no knickers" to me, @HoppingPavlova.😂😂

sashh · 07/11/2020 12:55

The psychopathic bit is the odd number of pillowcases.

LasagneLady · 07/11/2020 13:03

@maddiemookins16mum was just about to ask if one of the 47 was a Wombles one! Did we all have one?

kursaalflyer · 07/11/2020 13:04

Daily?? I'm truly gobsmacked. Even if it is covered in snot and drool just turn it over. I can't believe how little people care about the planet. Shock And YANBU op, 47 is way too many for 2 people unless you are changing them twice a day which then means you don't have nearly enough.

Hmm
SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/11/2020 13:17

My mum has close to 80 towels. She lives alone.
It's simply an accumulation over the time. It's actually good because there is no need to buy new ones... For ever😂
It's shame to just throw something out when it can be perfectly usable

Nikori · 07/11/2020 13:20

We have 2 pillows per bed and 2 pillowcases per pillow. I wash them weekly with the rest of the bedding. I also never iron them. I’m confused by the useful comment. Useful for what?

MrsToothyBitch · 07/11/2020 13:21

YANBU. 47 is a psychopathic number. What sort of monster would have an odd number. Buy another to have a nice, round, divisible by two 48 Grin.

SweetMilkyFilth · 07/11/2020 13:24

47 does seem a strange number to have...

But I have to admit I change my pillow case daily. It helps with my acne and I also have a lot of ear piercings and while all but 3 are healed sometimes the cartilage ones can get a bit irritated so a fresh pillowcase every night helps keep them clean.

likethatbutcat · 07/11/2020 13:25

Why do you have two pillowcases per pillow?

TroysMammy · 07/11/2020 13:32

I've said YANBU but thinking about it and a quick count in my head I must have at least 30 and there is only one bed in my house and 4 pillows.

FastFood · 07/11/2020 13:39

@Iwantacookie

How can you have an odd amount of pillow cases? Confused
This is definitely the most disturbing thing.

Got 16 pillow cases for 4 pillows. And I still think it's too much for me.

SlopesOff · 07/11/2020 13:41

I have far more than I use, some of them match bedding that is also not used, but will be. I also have spares to match said bedding as they wear out first. I change the pillowcases more often than I change the sheets, usually midweek and again with the bed change and they have to wait to go into my perfume free wash, so do need spares.

I also have some old cotton ones that are the best cotton ever, plain white vintage cotton, and some that were a wedding gift.

What is not acceptable is to have an odd number, should be 48.

2bazookas · 07/11/2020 13:50

You poor thing, only 47. How on earth do you survive?

Pillow cases are very important in my life, second only to the quality of the pillows and liners inside them. Nocturnal bliss and comfort are the secret to normal brain function and general happiness.

Now, about the 47. First you need to sort them by fabric type and ditch any made from polyester or polycotton mixes. Just say no to polycotton in The Bed.

Personally my aim is MAXIMUM LINEN pillowcases (ironed, of course) but failing that , 300-count pure cotton is acceptable for the bottom pillow.
