To think 47 spare pillowcases is a borderline psychopathic number?

I've just been attempting to bring order to the chaos of the linen box in DHs house and made this disturbing discovery. For context, we've no DC, there are lodgers but they have their own linen. We have four pillows on the bed.

YABU - 47 is an acceptable number
YANBU - DP is clearly unhinged/has a niche bedding fetish/used to run a brothel

I read 47 pillows, so pillowcases? All good.

I have 12 pillowcases - that's plenty for me (I have two bedrooms). I use pillow protectors so don't need to use two pillowcases per pillow. I think I have 10 tea towels .... I don't like storing huge amounts of stuff, and would rather have 'an elegant sufficiency' 😂

You cannot change 4 pillows an equal amount of times with 47 pillowcases so it's obviously deeply wrong.

Pillowcases should be in multiples of the number of pillows in the house.

Hmmmmm @Hangingover, how do you know he hadn't been running a brothel in the loft? That could explain a lot.

I used to have around sixty, 3 double beds, 4 pillowcases on each, 3 full sets of linen for both spare rooms , 6/7 full sets of bedding for main bedroom and some plain basic pillowcases for the day bed when it was used for guests. I had a problem. We changed our double for a super king a few years ago, so I had a huge cull and lots went to the charity shop. I now have two sets for the guest bedroom (2 sheets, 2 duvet covers, 8 pillow cases) , 3 sets for DSs bed (3 sheets, 3 duvet covers, 3 pillow cases) and six for our bed (6 sheets, 6 duvet covers, 24 pillow cases), that's 3 winter sets, 3 summer sets because I like brushed cotton in the winter. So that's 35 which I thought was good but now seems like a lot......

Oh that doesn't include pillow protectors, 18 of those, 2 for each pillow, one to put on while the other is in the wash so the beds can be remade straight away without waiting for protectors to dry

But back to the OP, yes 47 does seem like an extraordinary large amount.

It does of just 2 people, but we have 6 people (so 6x8 pillowcases) plus 4 pillowcases for guest bedding so a total of 46 in our linen closet and 6 on our beds at any one time. Obviously during course of the week the pile of 46 goes down each day until I wash once a week and the pile is replenished.

My mother in law once called me and DH in a panic about 10 times in a row because she was standing in the department store and there was a sale on tea towels and did we want them.
I would add that she was in the US and we are in the UK, the tea towels were festive Christmas ones and it was June.
And then she bought us a bumper pack of 12 to go with the Thanksgiving/Easter/various saints themed ones we have already.

I’ve just realised I’m wrong, we’ve got two sk duvet covers and 4 pillowcases.

I’m feeling positively spartan here.
