To think 47 spare pillowcases is a borderline psychopathic number?

I've just been attempting to bring order to the chaos of the linen box in DHs house and made this disturbing discovery. For context, we've no DC, there are lodgers but they have their own linen. We have four pillows on the bed.

YABU - 47 is an acceptable number
YANBU - DP is clearly unhinged/has a niche bedding fetish/used to run a brothel

Oh she will be happy to hear it's not just her😂 Do you aalso have close to 100 teatowels? (#communismblessings)

kowari · 07/11/2020 14:06

@likethatbutcat

Why do you have two pillowcases per pillow?
I do so I can wash them in the evening if I want and put clean dry ones on to sleep.
Brightermornings · 07/11/2020 14:08

@EmmaGrundyForPM

I have a lot of pillowcases as I change them daily.

Daily? How gross. I change mine hourly. And half hourly at weekends.

😂😂
2bazookas · 07/11/2020 14:32

Yes I do have 100 teatowels , all red and white. So?

SavoyCabbage · 07/11/2020 14:39

Are they all the same pattern @2bazookas ?

Confirmed. We are not related. Hers are different colours 😂
DappledThings · 07/11/2020 14:52

Daily pillowcase changing! 🤣🤣🤣

likethatbutcat · 07/11/2020 14:55

@Nikori

I thought you meant that you always had 2 pillowcases on each pillow that was on the bed Blush

Proudboomer · 07/11/2020 15:02

I have never counted my pillow cases but as I like a lot of pillows I probably have about 40.
I have 6 pillows on my bed and I put 2 cases on each pillow. One on each end so you don’t get the flap opening and showing the pillow lining, so that is 12 cases.
My son has 4 pillows so another 8 cases
Mum has her own separate pillow cases but 2 pillows so another 4.
Other son has 4 pillows so another 8
Spare room has 4 pillows so another 8 and in the blanket box I have a couple of spare pillows for the trundle bed so another 4.

I also have some very nice bedding sets that I inherited from my late MIL which I would never throw away even though she has been dead for near on 20 years. Good quality bedding which is well looked after lasts a lifetime.

I have bought one of my sons and his girlfriend a good quality bedding set at part of their Christmas gifts and have bought 8 cases to go with it. 4 ordinary and 4 Oxford. Not cheap but pure cotton and should still be going strong long after I am pushing up daisies.

As usual this thread has provided a fascinating insight into other people's lives and houses Grin

I asked DP if he used to run a brothel and he said I'd rumbled him and he's planning on opening one shortly. Grin

Bit unusual, yes

Saracen · 07/11/2020 17:31

Bit extreme but it can easily happen if you don't declutter regularly. I had a clearout a few years ago and had a similar number. Duvet covers always come with pillowcases and usually the duvet cover wears out first. My late MIL used to enjoy giving us pillowcases. So they did accumulate. Because they don't take up much space you may not notice you have so many.

Yeah, we double up!! 😂

Not really, one to wash, one to wear kind of thing. I don’t have a ton of space so keep extras to the minimum where possible. I remember someone posting that their kid had 26 pairs of pajamas and I couldn’t wrap my head around that at all. It seems wasteful to me.

Nikori · 08/11/2020 03:24

I also remember a poster saying they changed all bedding daily and ironed everything. Weirdly, they were complaining about how much time it took, but they liked going to bed in fresh sheets. I definitely don’t have the time or patience for that.

I do this, otherwise the pillow gets a bit yellow over time. My mum also always had two pillowcases on each pillow, never bought new pillows and they were still as white as snow when she died.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/11/2020 04:43

I have 40 pillow cases with matching duvets - may need a bit of a clear out... plus over 20 under pillowcases.

Caeruleanblue · 08/11/2020 04:59

The moral of the story is only buy bedding you REALLY like as it lasts a lifetime.
I have some 35 year old pillowcases that were second hand, bit faded but ok for under the top one.

Nikori · 08/11/2020 09:19

My son has allergies. His doctor said that pillows should be replaced every year or every 2 years at most. We use the pillowcases until they have an accident or something. Sometimes the washing machine eats them. I'm shocked at 100 tea towels, do you change after each cup? People must have huge houses.

No and not really😁 Teatowels take up very little space. My mum has a small wardrobe where she has everything. Home textiles stash. Towels, tea towels, bedding etc.
She hasn't had to buy tea towel since 80s😂 They are good quality. She just uses them like normal. They were all gifts from company she worked for.

WunWun · 08/11/2020 11:47

I am in my 40s and only just this week bought some extra pillowcases so that I now have enough that I don't have to wash the plain ones and put them back on in the same day.

user1471538283 · 08/11/2020 12:58

I was not as bad as him but prior to sorting out to move I bought some new white pillowcases and then counted how many we had. 22 for 2 beds and that didn't include the matching pillowcases for our 6 duvet sets

Hangingover · 10/11/2020 10:15

I've discovered 5 more... This is getting ridiculous 😂
