I thought this was wind up but sadly it is true. A 73 year old retired nurse has been arrested and put in handcuffs because she took her own mother out of a care home. She has not had proper contact for 9 months and her poor 97 year old mum was ailing, she wanted to bring her home to care for her. Wow just wow how have we come to this.

And if they were allowed to visit which they should be able then none of this would have happened. simples

@Nicknacky

If old people didn’t matter then the doors to the homes would be thrown wide open and everyone could walk through them. Wouldn’t be many left in the homes, though.
They matter politically and as cash cows for care home owners. This situation has proved very clearly that their quality of life is just collateral damage. Living is more than just not being dead.
Meadow1203 · 06/11/2020 16:40

So you do not have experience of care homes and dementia. I am sorry for your loss and not happy about any of this. don't be silly

@Meadow1203

YEs they did
Just not getting a welfare power of attorney. Which they need.

Or wanting to keep the 97 yo lady at home instead of going into a care home.

They were allowed window visits.
Meadow1203 · 06/11/2020 16:42

Again if you bothered to listen to the interview this is addressed.

"Care" homes are just a cash cow for the owners! The standard of care in lots is absolutely laughable, especially local authority run ones! The state has far to much power and putting people in these places is just handing them even more. I would never ever allow my mother or grandmother to end up in one of these so called " care homes".

Meadow1203 · 06/11/2020 16:45

So how can feed someone through window or give them a hug. Read to them. Just does not work

OP posts:
tiredvommachine · 06/11/2020 16:49

You're conflating many issues here, upshot is that an assault was reported and verified by the granddaughter.. Gentle push apparently Hmm so police have attended and dealt with what has been presented to them and then the decision has been made to NFA and the breach of the peace has also discontinued. This is what the police attendance was about and to quote you eloquently "End of".

'Anyone who thinks Zoom or FaceTime is adequate knows fuck all about dementia.'

How very condescending about care home staff. Not one person thinks it is 'adequate', it is however a means to stay in touch whilst protecting care home residents. There was sadly lots of care home deaths in the first wave and nobody wants that repeating. I feel so sorry for the staff trying to do their upmost yet having relatives assault them.

It is equally as bad that hospital and ICU patients can't have visitors, barring end of life patients. Are you suggesting if ICU staff assisted a possibly confused/disoriented patient on CPAP to have a quick chat on facetime they know 'fuck all' too?

Meadow1203 · 06/11/2020 16:50

assault lol

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 06/11/2020 16:53

Of course it’s assault. Why don’t you start showing care workers some respect and stop laughing about them being shoved?

Zzz1234 · 06/11/2020 16:53

This whole year we have worked on reducing risk, having 30 families come I to our care home would multiply the risk. I'm pretty sure the families moaning about not having visits would also be the first to moan when their mum\dad was dead because we had let people in and Someone had brought in covid. We have had window and limited internal visits (but they have now stopped due to the recent lockdown).

Sirzy · 06/11/2020 16:53

And let’s not forget the nature of the beast is that by the time they need full time nursing care the resident doesn’t know if the person visiting is their daughter or a stranger. A good care home will be able to make sure the residents get the hugs and things hey need but safely so

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/11/2020 16:54

'assault lol'

What is funny about it? Do you have a job? Imagine if someone shoved you out of the way would you be lol'ing then?

tiredvommachine · 06/11/2020 16:54

You're just embarrassing yourself now.

@GetOffYourHighHorse, search for my previous post. Or the ops history. Very eye opening they thing 'assault is lol'.
tiredvommachine · 06/11/2020 17:02

@brumBoo, I noted there had been no response to your post about the OP's previous history, quite enlightening indeed.

Nicknacky · 06/11/2020 17:05

BrumBoo What page is your last post? My advance search isn’t working?

BrumBoo · 06/11/2020 17:11

@Nicknacky I'm afraid I have no idea, I have the thread set to 'all posts'. However, I'll reiterate here. The op is being hypocritical as they have a posting history that makes excuses for assault, especially since they are with their partner who assaulted their son. They are also making a big fuss about how they would walk in and demand their dad back in the same way, and how she's worried about her dad feeling abandoned in his home, yet has moved to another country with said partner with history of assault.

Again, it's usually rude to bring up previous posts. However, much hypocrisy here.

Nicknacky · 06/11/2020 17:12

BrumBoo Thanks for that.

DarkMintChocolate · 06/11/2020 17:14

I don't see that myself. DD is looked after by up to 25 careworkers in a month, and that's just in the daytime; then there are the cleaner, 3 team leaders and manager of the house, so that's 30 people. I am not sure how many different staff there are in the night team, but I assume there is more than one. Then, she may come into contact with the other professionals like doctors, nurses, epilepsy nurse, speech and language therapists, clinical psychologist, Positive Behaviour Support Team; and the repair people (like the joiners, etc). Apart from now during the lockdown, they are all free to go out to restaurants and pubs, shops, pharmacies, other people's houses, etc - where they may come into contact with the corona virus.

I really cannot see, how it is safe for DD to have hugs off people, going out to restaurants, pubs, etc - whereas it is too dangerous for her to get a hug off us, who won't go to these places now its winter?

Sirzy that’s fucking disgusting.

Thank god for Alzheimer Society and the like still fighting for these people

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/11/2020 17:20

'search for my previous post'

Ah. The op has a care home axe to grind. I see. Stop projecting op and accept that whatever we think about policies and procedures they are there to keep residents safe.

This thing will be over one day then everyone can resume visits. Mind, I used to help in a relatives care home many moons ago when I was a student and there was always a distinct lack of visitors.

Sirzy · 06/11/2020 17:23

Can I have a link to where the Alzheimer’s society are campaigning for people to be taken out of care homes with no notice and no plans in place.....
