Talking about what I wanted for Xmas and my upcoming birthday ( big 30 😭😭😭)
I asked for a scooter with very odd reactions from my DP and DS 🤣
I wanted it because mY DC ride their scooters to school and so thought I would join them !
They think it’s embarrassing for me and DC 🤣
Are they right ?

I have an adult scooter for commuting purposes, it's fab! Check out Decathlon.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 03/11/2020 21:37

I've got one! Another dad at school has as well. If you have young kids it's a good way of keeping up with them. I use it a lot more than I thought I would, it cuts down walking time by half. My 5.5 year old is not embarrassed by me...yet

I'm with them, adults on scooters look a bit silly. But just a personal opinion

Mylittlepony374 · 03/11/2020 21:44

They are right. If they've told you they'd be embarrassed, they'll be embarrassed. I wouldn't do it to my kids. Up to you if you do or not.

For an adult, yes, it looks quite twattish. Nowt wrong with under 12s having them.

Get yourself a (grown up) bike

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/11/2020 21:48

I'm not even allowed out of the car when dropping off my 9yo. I am permitted to drive her the 25mins into/across town as she doesn't want the 50min walk. Plus I'm driving her sister anyway.

Love51 · 03/11/2020 21:49

Think if it as giving your children the gift of resilience.
Honestly what message are you sending your kids if you avoid doing something because of how other people might react.

NoSquirrels · 03/11/2020 21:50

Sorry, but yes.

Fully support your right to scoot, and it’s not massively unusual, especially e.g. in London but I do think it is a choice that draws comment and if your DS is embarrassed by it then you should take his feelings into account.

You could cycle instead?

DrWAnkenstein · 03/11/2020 21:51

I think @OoohTheStatsDontLie has a scooter Grin.
I also have one but I haven't yet used it on the school run and I do get a few funny looks when I whizz past on our scoots/walks. Idgaf, but I would if my kids were uncomfortable with it in front of their mates.

Noooo! Everyone will think you look like a prat and your dcs would be embarrassed.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 03/11/2020 21:53

Depends if you are considerate on it or a twat like the dad on my school run who scoots really fast along the narrow pavement with a dog in tow, and expects everyone to leap out of his way... as long as you're not going to do that then it's fine, but IMO you will look a little bit silly. That doesn't have to matter though - as long as you are ok with it. It's a parents job to embarrass their offspring Grin
