Talking about what I wanted for Xmas and my upcoming birthday ( big 30 😭😭😭)
I asked for a scooter with very odd reactions from my DP and DS 🤣
I wanted it because mY DC ride their scooters to school and so thought I would join them !
They think it’s embarrassing for me and DC 🤣
Are they right ?

My mate has one and I have a unicycle. DH is getting me retro rollerboots for Christmas and I intend to wear them on the school run too.

Do it!

I had DS at 42. All through primary school he used his scooter to go to school and having seen another Mum on one, I got one. It was fab and I could keep up with him. It raised a few smiles but I also laughed at myself, a 50 year old on a scooter. I’m not bothered by what anyone thinks, we had fun on our scooters and I’m left with the memory now he’s in Comp. As previously said, it cut the journey time by half.

I think scooting adults look foolish I’m afraid. I’m not queen of the world though so my opinion shouldn’t stop one single person scooting if they want to. But you might care more about your loved ones’ opinions than mine.

There is a family scooter train on our school run and it's a massive pain in the arse. Everyone has to get out of the way mum scoots on ahead with kids way behind.

If you must do it can you stick to the bike lane.

Halliehallie9828 · 03/11/2020 22:07

@RevIMJolly

Noooo! Everyone will think you look like a prat and your dcs would be embarrassed.
I agree!

No adult scoots to school near me.

Macncheeseballs · 03/11/2020 22:07

I wouldn't want one, but I have no idea why so many people think they look silly, it's just another mode of transport. What I call silly are people sat behind the wheels of huge SUVs in traffic jams, thinking they're the muts nuts - so no, crack on, and enjoy yourself

popcornlover · 03/11/2020 22:07

Don’t clog up the pavements luv. We don’t need more bozo parents and kids thinking they’re Lewis Hamilton in pedestrian zones. YES, it’s embarrassing! Get a hobby!

Bwlch · 03/11/2020 22:08

We aren't talking about Vespas are we?

Love51 · 03/11/2020 22:08

Think if it as giving your children the gift of resilience.

conduitoffortune · 03/11/2020 22:10

The thought of this really made me laugh, sorry OP! I have never seen an adult doing the school run on a scooter. If i were to witness one of the school mums doing this though I would cheer them on and think good for them.

Worried234 · 03/11/2020 22:12

For gods sake, no. You're a grown adult. Adults on scooters look absolutely ridiculous.

stepmad · 03/11/2020 22:13

Use one all the time with my the children I look after gets us from a to b very much faster. Good excerise for us all it very common here in London.

MoreHairyThanScary · 03/11/2020 22:28

Go for it.

Not sure why some are so negative. It's fun, active and purposeful so good for health.

seayork2020 · 03/11/2020 22:33

I personally would not but if your kids were fine with it then if you wanted sure, and yes adults should be able to do anything they want and kids should have to accept it I am told but if my son had a problem with it then no I would not (if I was going to at all that is)

Osirus · 03/11/2020 22:36

Please don’t embarrass your child.

By all means get a scooter, but don’t ride it when he’s around.

I’d be mortified if my mum had done this!

zatarontoast · 03/11/2020 22:43

It is not common in my city at all, but the parents I have seen doing it give off a "look at meeeee" vibe. Not at all helpful response I know.

BoomBoomsCousin · 03/11/2020 22:50

Your DS is probably right that he will be embarrassed, the UK is quite sadly uptight about some things. But that doesn't mean you're being unreasonable. Would it be a gift you'd want if you could use it anywhere except the school run?

HamishDent · 03/11/2020 23:04

Personally, I think adults on scooters look ridiculous and I can see why your kids would be embarrassed.

antipodeansun · 04/11/2020 00:58

It is great. And so is bike or any active way of getting around. It is not embarrassing at all, they are just not used seeing adults on scooters but there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't and you may start a new trend
And yes it is a good message to your kid and partner too.

Rockbird · 04/11/2020 03:58

Go for it. Anyone who thinks adults shouldn't ride scooters need to take a look at themselves. There is no reason not to ride one whatever age you are.

Gremlinsateit · 04/11/2020 04:01

Go for it. You will look cool and glide smoothly past the naysayers.
