To think 26 seconds isn't long enough to wait?

Arising DPD. Angry

Was researching selling a small piece of furniture and got a quote for courier drop off - £5. All good.

When I went to dispatch the item, this quote had changed to £17 and courier pick up only. I think the packaging required to safely transport it took it over in some dimensions Blush. Rather gutting but I accepted this.

DPD turned up today to collect it. He waited 26 seconds after ringing the doorbell. Then left.

I've had no notifications, but just clicked through on an text notification and it's telling me that they were "advised there was nothing to collect".

AIBU in thinking he should have waited longer?

That's gut-wrenching on all counts.
How do know about the 26 second wait?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2020 16:14

I've got Ring footage, abd I'm a nob and checked the timingsGrin

Yes, that's ridiculous. I get they're busy, I get they can't be waiting around for people to faff about, but 26 seconds. They'd be hearing all about it. Loudly!!

MoonJelly · 03/11/2020 16:31

Ask who precisely told the courier that there was nothing to collect.

Chocolatehasruinedmylife · 03/11/2020 16:36

26 seconds is nothing - Although my DS thinks thats ages when he is waiting for a game to load Grin

I would definitely be requesting collection to be rescheduled for free, and ask who they spoke to.

Chocolatehasruinedmylife · 03/11/2020 16:39

I have just stood in my kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil and counted to 26 (don't judge, I'm bored) and it felt more like an hour lol. Maybe he felt like he had waited longer?

Whysrumgone · 03/11/2020 16:43

I’ve just put the timer on my phone, imagined knocking on someone’s door and timed how long I’d normally stand there for. When I pressed stop it was on 12 seconds. 26 seconds is actually a long time to wait imo if there’s no noise/movement/obvious response from someone in the house

RunningFromInsanity · 03/11/2020 16:43

Tbf I just counted to 26 and it seemed like a long time!

ChloeCrocodile · 03/11/2020 16:45

Why didn't you answer the door? 26 seconds isn't very long, but I wouldn't expect them to be hanging around - a minute at the absolute most.

CoRhona · 03/11/2020 16:45

Agree annoying for you but couriers are trying to pick up or deliver as many packages as possible.

Were you not in / didn't you hear the bell?

supersonicginandtonic · 03/11/2020 16:45

What were you doing to take so long to answer the door? Especially when you were expecting somebody?

randomsabreuse · 03/11/2020 16:49

If I'm in the wrong part of the house there's no way I'd be under 30s between door bell ringing and downstairs - toddler to put somewhere safe, couple of stairgates to negotiate, plus getting keys from toddler proof location and into door...

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 03/11/2020 16:52

I think 26 seconds sounds like quite a long time to wait! I so wish I had a ring doorbell now so I could time delivery drivers🤣

Our house is average sized and I guess it would take me about 10 seconds at the most to get off the sofa to the front door, that's from the back of the house.

shitinmyhandsandclap · 03/11/2020 16:55

Stupid question but why did you or whoever was in the house answer the door?

shitinmyhandsandclap · 03/11/2020 16:56

*not answer the door obvs

ComeOnBabyHauntMyBubble · 03/11/2020 16:58

Stupid question but why did you or whoever was in the house answer the door?
Because they were 30 seconds away from the door?
Ferrari458 · 03/11/2020 17:00

Bloody hell! Op could have been on the loo - a legitimate reason for not managing to get to the door in 26 seconds. Or mildly incapacitated or disabled - another good reason. Of course he should have waited a bit longer and - what a thought - maybe even rung he bell just once more.
I can't believe people are giving the Op a hard time for not answering quickly enough.

Ferrari458 · 03/11/2020 17:01

And... what about the possibility of the person with the parcel to be collected being elderly? Upstairs and a stairlift user. FFS.

OublietteBravo · 03/11/2020 17:07

My house has 3 storeys and my office is on the top floor. I have to hear the doorbell and then get down 2 flights of stairs to answer the door. I’ve just timed it - it took me 36 seconds.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 03/11/2020 17:14

I am physically incapacitated and use a walker. It takes me at least 45 seconds to get from my bedroom to the front door. I always put that info on the pickup/delivery order. And I also call out "I'm coming" as I roll toward the door. ONLY ONE TIME has a delivery person waited. Mostly I get to the door and find the delivery on the porch and I have to try to wrestle it over the doorsill and then I just leave it until my son comes home.

Onjnmoeiejducwoapy · 03/11/2020 17:17

Did he only ring once, and were there not any instructions to call if you didn’t come? Did you hear him at the door and try to get there—if so I would normally call out so they know I’m on my way. It’s not very long to wait, but I’m assuming he didn’t think you were coming?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 03/11/2020 17:18

That’s a long time actually. Half a minute of just standing round waiting. My HIT workout is 30 second bursts and it kills me.
