To think 26 seconds isn't long enough to wait?

Arising DPD. Angry

Was researching selling a small piece of furniture and got a quote for courier drop off - £5. All good.

When I went to dispatch the item, this quote had changed to £17 and courier pick up only. I think the packaging required to safely transport it took it over in some dimensions Blush. Rather gutting but I accepted this.

DPD turned up today to collect it. He waited 26 seconds after ringing the doorbell. Then left.

I've had no notifications, but just clicked through on an text notification and it's telling me that they were "advised there was nothing to collect".

AIBU in thinking he should have waited longer?

26 seconds is ages to wait for someone to open the door but if I was him I’d have tried the bell at least once more

Nottherealslimshady · 03/11/2020 17:30

26 seconds is miles longer tha I'd wait at someones door. Where were you? I always shout "2 seconds" as soon as I hear them if I'm upstairs or need to find the key so they know I'm coming.

Glad to see there's some other timing nobs on here

Our house is set up like @OublietteBravo. Three storeys, home office on top floor. Adult DD was WFH on the top floor abd heard the doorbell and the dog bark so took off her headset and legged it and stubled down the stairs. Saw him legging to the van through the bottom stair window.

There wasn't space to put other instructions, I'm a Courier Collect Virgin fosho.

I sympathise as it’s incredibly frustrating, however, If you have the Ring doorbell why didn’t you respond to say you were coming to the door ?

Greenhairbrush · 03/11/2020 17:33

I couldn’t get to the door in 26 seconds. I’m very heavily pregnant, usually with a toddler on my lap. Plus a knackered old sofa. 26 seconds would be impossible.

Witchend · 03/11/2020 17:33

26 seconds feels forever if you're waiting. But also, if you're on a road, he may have gone back to his van and watched the door from there potentially, so may have been longer.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2020 17:33

@supersonicginandtonic

What were you doing to take so long to answer the door? Especially when you were expecting somebody?
the collection window was 9.00 -17.00. It's a bit hard to be on high alert all that time 😭

To all those asking, nope he didn't ring a second time.

OP posts:
ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2020 17:35

Also he wouldn't have heard a shout from up in the house I don't think?

That might be my next text experiment I love them

26 seconds does seem like ages, I definitely agree with that, but someone had paid a fair bit of money, unlikely to not be in. SEVENTEEN pounds Grin

rowangowan · 03/11/2020 17:38

I think he should have waited longer & rang the bell twice. What if you'd been in the loo? It would def take me longer than 26 secs to get from mid-wee to front door.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2020 17:39

The Ring is really slow to load to show who's at the door. It's a flaw Sad. But it does allow me to arse about with the chronology of shenanigans after the event. Which is less useful, but quite fun.

I once ran down the stairs to collect a parcel and slipped from about the eight stair and just laid there crumpled and completely winded at the bottom and had a front row seat of how long it takes to write one of those little cards and post it, quite a long time it runs out.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/11/2020 17:41

Turns

Devilesko · 03/11/2020 17:41

I think it was long enough tbh.
I know it's a faff but you can't move too far away when you have deliveries, well you can't in our house.

ArranBound · 03/11/2020 17:42

I'm disabled and there's no way I can get to the door in 26 seconds. It's beyond ridiculous that he didn't wait, then lied on his PDA saying he was told there was nowt to collect! Complain loudly all over Twitter and FB.

DD saw him pulling off after he'd gazelled down the drive Grin

I've sorted a recollection for tmow! Took me 37 of live chat bot and then queue or 24 for a real human to tell me I need dpd local. Gah.

Tim at dpd local was rather fine tbh and reckoned 48 seconds would be a far more reasonable nber especially as the size of house is clearly right in front of them.

OP posts:
ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/11/2020 17:48

That wasn't clear:
37 minutes all together.

I was 24th in the queue after my questions fell outwith the chatbot's abilities.

madcatladyforever · 03/11/2020 17:53

It takes me a minute to get down the stairs as I'm disabled. Id be pissed if so.eone funked off before then. Can only Olympic sprinters get parcels collected now ffs.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/11/2020 17:59

I’m a bit crippled and we’d to get upstairs to the door

slipperywhensparticus · 03/11/2020 18:08

People always knock when I'm on the loo I fish wife yell "just a minute" down the stairs at them 🙃

Roselilly36 · 03/11/2020 18:10

I am disabled, no way could I get to my front door in 26 seconds.

Viviennemary · 03/11/2020 18:17

Why didn't you answer the door right away. They must get fed up of people dilly dallying about.

Alternista · 03/11/2020 18:21

People talking about parcel deliveries are missing the point that this was a collection that OP had paid £17 for.
