To think 26 seconds isn't long enough to wait?

Arising DPD. Angry

Was researching selling a small piece of furniture and got a quote for courier drop off - £5. All good.

When I went to dispatch the item, this quote had changed to £17 and courier pick up only. I think the packaging required to safely transport it took it over in some dimensions Blush. Rather gutting but I accepted this.

DPD turned up today to collect it. He waited 26 seconds after ringing the doorbell. Then left.

I've had no notifications, but just clicked through on an text notification and it's telling me that they were "advised there was nothing to collect".

AIBU in thinking he should have waited longer?

When you say it it doesn't sound long but actually it's a long time to just stand waiting.
I understand you being annoyed but they'll be busy and how long do you expect them to wait? 30 seconds would be long enough for most people and if it's going to take longer you can always shout out to say you're on your way.

DPD delivered to me last week and knocked ever so lightly I just heard it at the back of the house(I have a bell)....by the time I got to the door he had left a card hanging out the front of the letter box and left the parcel in full view for the world to see! 30 second at the most and he had driven off

FelicisNox · 04/11/2020 18:43

YANBU but DPD are given zero time to deliver properly so they are literally RUNNING from one delivery to the next... I was literally run over by a DPD man at work once.

It was arguable who was the most stressed.

Complain to DPD in writing but ask they give their delivery drivers adequate time to deliver as it's as unfair on them as it is on you. Point out its poor practice.

Its called a flyer dear (i want to go home early today)

bemusedmoose · 04/11/2020 19:06

That's DPD for you!
I happened to be in the porch when our delivery driver rand the bell, all I did was close the porch door and open the front door and he was already climbing in the van. I ran i out after him waving, he looked straight at me and drove off. No note through the door nothing. I saw them stop further up the street and hoofed it after him and he did the same there too - didn't even get the packages out the van - just ring and leg it.

I’m gonna stick my oar in and defend the DPD driver

I work in the courier business (not for a big company) but I do arrange a lot of courier work with DPD, FedEx, DHL and the like

Customers seem to expect so much and most of them just don’t get it.

Must popular request is ‘can the courier call me half an hour before arriving so I can be sure to be at home’ The answer is always the same .... NO

These multi drop drivers often have between 100 and 200 delivery and collections to do in a day, can you imagine if they had to call each and every one of them to try to coordinate deliveries and collections?

Likewise waiting almost 30 seconds for you to answer the door then leaving isn’t unreasonable, you may have thought he should have waited at least a minute but can you imagine if the courier had to do that for each and every drop he/she had that day ?

I believe DPD offer hour time slots for delivery and collection which are notified usually by text or e mail on the morning of collection, if this was the case you should have really been in your guard during the time slot,

Anyway, hope you get/got it sorted and don’t be too hard on the courier, they work bloody hard for not great pay.

Bad delivery men, good delivery men. Potato potato. Email complaints department. I put note on door if I'm doing something, please knock hard I've been on nights.

Mamanyt · 05/11/2020 01:07

KEEP THAT FOOTAGE, and contact his employer. RAISE HELL! It can take that long for some people to get from the back of a home to the front! THEY are the unreasonable ones.

bobbiester · 05/11/2020 07:17

I suppose RIng footage doesn't show if DD really did "leg it" downstairs does it? Or does it show DD emerging from front door waving to try to attract drivers attention?

CorianderLord · 05/11/2020 07:27

Yes I keep getting delivery people saying I wasn't in. Wel, I'm working from home at my kitchen table next to the damn buzzer. I am always home.

TigerBrite · 05/11/2020 07:38

I have a four storey townhouse. I wouldn’t get down the stairs in 26s, especially if I was cooking and had to put my toddler in a different room from boiling pans. I also might be changing a nappy or something. Last year when I had a broken leg I definitely wouldn’t have reached the door in 26s.

My main complaint though is that I have a super loud doorbell so I can hear it on the top floor, and the button has a light on it so it catches your eye - but delivery people still knock then go away because I haven’t heard it. Just press the goddamn bell?!!

Thought this was going to be about how quickly Trump declared victory.

Oscarsdaddy · 05/11/2020 07:54

@JesusInTheCabbageVan
I thought it was about my bedroom performance 😜

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/11/2020 07:56

@Oscarsdaddy 26 seconds? You're a God!

Aglet · 05/11/2020 09:56

This happens so much to us . If we don't arrive immediately, they start hammering on the door as if to break it, causing me to take to the high pitched screaming like a banshee at them. I appreciate that time is money, but they can be so thoughtless.

Merryweather80 · 05/11/2020 12:30

It takes me longer than 26 seconds to stand up- never mind getting to the door. I have disability stickers on my doorbell asking delivery drivers to be patient and wait for me to get to the door. Some do- most don't.

One day a huge box was left on my doorstep - it was bigger than me! I struggled for over an hour to get it inside. 😡 not dpd but their opposition in brown, a cheerful chap at the best of times.
