Dh putting bags of dog pooh in bin

timeforanewstart · 03/11/2020 10:33

We have wheelie bin for general waste collected every 2 weeks
I tens to line the wheelie bin as we have a dog and incase dog pooh bags or waste splits
Just after bin day we had ran out of liners , due that day
Dh decided to throw a bag dog pooh in bin without liner at bottom
Im not happy but he says i aibu
But at the bottom of the bin when all the other rubbish goes in it is likely to split open, bags we use a degradable as well and as its will be 2 weeks im not that convinced how well they will contain especially with a load rubbish
I thought he had removed it as we have 2 bins ( large family )
But just gone out and its still at bottom of bin along with a bag of rubbish one of kids as thrown in
I can't reach it to get out
I wouldn't of minded so much if he had at least placed it in a black bag first and then put in, he could of taken out kitchen bin bag and put it in that at least

I wouldn't want shit in my wheelie bin. If the bag splits you have a stinky dog shit wheelie bin. Those dog poo bags aren't very strong either so there is a chance it will split when other rubbish goes on top and squashes the bag.

Do you have a dog? Has that ever happened in your bin?

I do.. it's never happened!

SoupDragon · 03/11/2020 13:46

We use corn starch ones...compostable, degrade in 6 months.

I used cornstarch nappy bags for some stuff that went on the compost heap once. 2 years later the bags were still there. I bet they last longer in landfill.

Far better than normal plastic though, obviously!

Ellapaella · 03/11/2020 13:49

I've had a dog for three years and we've never had a situation where there has been a dog poo bag split in the wheelie bin.

We have a wheelie bin cleaning service locally and they come and give our bin a wash out every 4 weeks.

Where would you put dog poo then?

Whereas normally the inside of a bin with two week old food waste in is a delight. Why are people on this thread spending so much time inside their bin?

Dog poo is squishy. Unless OP has a very big dog and is wildly overfeeding it, I can't see any way the bag would burst.

Ooh! Really? I've been reading round trying to find proper studies. Very thin on the ground, as you can imagine.

I'll check with a friend who has dog and compost heap... see if her hot compost bin is any quicker, I think she set it up for poo bags in the first place!

Noideawottodo · 03/11/2020 13:56

Poo. Not pooh.

donquixotedelamancha · 03/11/2020 13:56

I can't reach it to get out

Put the bin on it's side so you can climb in to get it out.

After a thorough shower buy your DH a lovely gift for putting up with you.

Then get a hobby.

SlopesOff · 03/11/2020 13:59

@AdobeWanKenobi

This is Pooh.
I was thinking the same thing Grin

What about nappies? Shitty nappies in wheelie bins is a far bigger issue than the occasional dog poo.

Elai1978 · 03/11/2020 14:04

Bins stink, all this talk of liners and bin washing is crazy unless your wheelie bin lives in your lounge of course!

SlopesOff · 03/11/2020 14:05

@ravenmum

What does a professional cleaner do to the bin that a kettle of boiling water can't?

I live in a city with a bin by every bus stop. Rarely bring one home!

Make a lot of noise early in the mornings. Bastards.

I flush it down the toilet, where mine goes.

Gingerninja1981 · 03/11/2020 14:12

My mother flushes dog poo down the toilet. Each to their own. However, went to her house with my partner who didn't know she did this. Seeing his face as she scooped one up and headed off into the house without saying a word was a picture. 😂😂😂

timeforanewstart · 03/11/2020 14:48

My bin is also right outside the front door
Yes i use a bin liner otherwise it stinks and all our waste is burnt
I wouldn't mins so much of it wasn't right at the bottom of an empty bin which will have a ton of stuff thrown on if and these degradable bags do seem not that strong , i won't be buying them anymore now i have found out all goes to get burned anyway
I do have ocd so a bin full of squished pooh is outside my comfort zone especially when its right out the front door
I have tipped it out now anyway

We used to get bins cleaned and we can't clean them ourselves as we have no outside drain to tip waste water into in our garden they are quite a strange set up and hard to get the bins in the back due to sloping garden hence why we have to keep on our one foot of garden by front door

@Gingerninja1981 see i thought we were not allowed to put dog poo down toilets in uk thats what our water company strictly say not to

OP posts:
timeforanewstart · 03/11/2020 15:00

@TibetanTerrier yet our water company and most say putting down toilet is not allowed

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 03/11/2020 15:01

I dont think its advised for dog or cat waste to go down the toilet.

doctorhamster · 03/11/2020 15:03

I put cat poo in dog poo bags and put them in my wheelie bin. Never had one split!

As an aside, no one should be putting cat or dog poo down the toilet!

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/11/2020 15:04

People REALLY hate the Earth, don't they? Like REALLY hate it.

timeforanewstart · 03/11/2020 15:05

@doctorhamster its more that its at the bottom of an empty bin that will then have all the weeks rubbish put on top , if there had at least been a bag at the bottom it would be not so bad
The waste people here say we should double bag all dog waste

OP posts:
timeforanewstart · 03/11/2020 15:08

@MrsTerryPratchett well actually I recycle a lot incl all our food waste and the liners I buy are ones made of recyclable plastic and it means i don't have to use liners in kids bins in rooms etc i can just tip them straight in
Also if the liners in good condition it stays in so I prob use 10 a year not exactly a great deal of plastic

OP posts:
timeforanewstart · 03/11/2020 15:10

@MrsTerryPratchett i also buy eco cleaning products and washing powder so I do a fair bit for the environment
Also used to buy degradable bags for everything but since learned that now all our waste is going for incineration so that seems a little pointless
