Dh putting bags of dog pooh in bin

timeforanewstart · 03/11/2020 10:33

We have wheelie bin for general waste collected every 2 weeks
I tens to line the wheelie bin as we have a dog and incase dog pooh bags or waste splits
Just after bin day we had ran out of liners , due that day
Dh decided to throw a bag dog pooh in bin without liner at bottom
Im not happy but he says i aibu
But at the bottom of the bin when all the other rubbish goes in it is likely to split open, bags we use a degradable as well and as its will be 2 weeks im not that convinced how well they will contain especially with a load rubbish
I thought he had removed it as we have 2 bins ( large family )
But just gone out and its still at bottom of bin along with a bag of rubbish one of kids as thrown in
I can't reach it to get out
I wouldn't of minded so much if he had at least placed it in a black bag first and then put in, he could of taken out kitchen bin bag and put it in that at least

Not great for the environment bin liners, aren't bins for rubbish anyway or is one of those threads where a man is doing it so it is automatically bad?

AdobeWanKenobi · 03/11/2020 11:59

@mistermagpie

Oh and for people who can't understand why you would pay to get it cleaned - one summer we got maggots in the bin. Enough said.
I've had a bin full of maggots one summer. I still don't pay to get it cleaned.

I don't understand why that would mean you couldn't clean it yourself. Were they killer maggots?

Swill some water round it using the hosepipe?
dementedpixie · 03/11/2020 12:02

Our bins are on a 3 weekly cycle except for the garden/food waste one which is 2 weeks (its the one that gets maggots in the summer). Every 2 weeks there are 2 bins out and that's the week our bins get cleaned - £3 for both to get done

ravenmum · 03/11/2020 12:02

What does a professional cleaner do to the bin that a kettle of boiling water can't?

I live in a city with a bin by every bus stop. Rarely bring one home!

dementedpixie · 03/11/2020 12:05

I dont want to do it myself and its keeping them in a job

oakleaffy · 03/11/2020 12:10

My old neighbours had an outside toilet, and they flushed their dog's poo down it.
Dog poo bags are a double edged sword...
if there aren't any poo bins, dog owners bag and chuck the bags in the undergrowth, a deplorable habit.
All dog poo bags should be completely and rapidly biodegradable to stop the awful bagged messes becoming noticeable in the Autumn.

Do you not have a tap?
Onjnmoeiejducwoapy · 03/11/2020 12:23

Shock who would line a wheelie bin, or pay someone to clean it?!? If there were maggots there I (a) would probably never find out and (b) would pore some bleach and water in there, and down a drain.

Unless I’m doing the house thing wrong, it’s where I put stuff that’s on the way out of the house, not in!

Derekhello · 03/11/2020 12:24

@Whatsnewpussyhat

If you want to get it out just tip the bin over
Yes just do this, easy.
WitchesSpelleas · 03/11/2020 12:30

Re. paying someone to clean your bin - how is that different from paying a cleaner to clean your house?

If you have the money to pay someone to do the chores you dislike, good for you. That's one more person in a job. My husband has been made redundant from his cleaning job due to Covid forcing the premises to shut - we need all the cleaning jobs we can get at the moment.

Derbee · 03/11/2020 12:32

I think if you’re so uptight about your bin and it’s cleanliness, it would be worth having your bin cleaned. You get companies that come the day after your bin day, and pressure wash them for you. It’s not expensive and it may save you some stress

Wingedharpy · 03/11/2020 12:33

Could you hold your husband by the ankles and invert him over the bin so that he can retrieve the offending package?
Otherwise, live dangerously and leave it there, and see what, if anything, happens.

bluebluezoo · 03/11/2020 12:33

Are maggots even that big a problem? Once the bin is emptied of whatever they were feeding off they will go away.

The hatch into flies and fly off.

ThirstyGhost · 03/11/2020 12:36

Your DH is right. YABU.

WhyDoesItAlways · 03/11/2020 12:42

So you throw and extra bag into landfill every week just so the inside of your wheelie bin doesn't get dirty?

Really?

TibetanTerrier · 03/11/2020 12:48

In my house the dog poo gets flushed down the toilet. I think it's pretty disgusting to put it in a household bin tbh, when it can be flushed away and dealt with by the sewage system that's designed for that precise purpose.

Dreeple · 03/11/2020 13:01

Some day, I’ll have maggots in me!

whoareyouIwonder · 03/11/2020 13:11

Sorry what?

Cocolapew · 03/11/2020 13:15

I use a liner because the bin men once complained that my bin smelt and refused to lift it Hmm. Saves me having to wash it out 🤢

Topseyt · 03/11/2020 13:32

Your DH is right. You are being utterly ridiculous.

Dog poo regularly goes into our wheelie bin. The bags have never split, and even if they had, I wouldn't give a shit about it.

Lining your wheelie bin with yet another plastic bag that will go to landfill is very bad for the environment. It won't biodegrade for many years, if at all. No matter what the manufacturer claims.

I have never washed my outdoor bins and nor have I ever paid anyone else to do so. I really marvel at what some people find to make a fuss about.

I keep the house reasonably clean. I don't even think about the wheelie bins. Sod that!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 13:35

@NaturalStudy

I think you're sadly fooling yourself if you think a degradable poo bag will degrade in 2 weeks. More like 100 years.
I'm looking!! We use corn starch ones...compostable, degrade in 6 months. I thought many poeple were changing to these now? And I don't even live in a particualrly MC area Smile

And plastic ones take 500+ years...

stackemhigh · 03/11/2020 13:37

My husband changes the black bin bag every week even if it’s just a third full, pisses me off! He doesn’t care about landfill.

Rollmopsrule · 03/11/2020 13:40

Ridiculous to have a wheelie bin liner. Yet more unwarranted plastic!
