to tell people that you can go for walks in the countryside which is lovely

But the pubs will be shut so you can't get a lovely lunch whilst out

So it's going to be pack lunches again.

At least this time there won't be people complaining about people exercising in the Peak District like last time!

@Arosadra

And that exercise has to start and end at our home address.
Have you read the new guidance as it definitely does not say that.
ScribblingPixie · 01/11/2020 11:32

I read that exercise is encouraged and also that there's going to be a 1+1 rule that says it's ok for one person to meet one friend and walk together - which I think is really sensible and healthy.

tenlittlecygnets · 01/11/2020 11:32

@Duanphen - * Literally says an exemption is "to exercise outdoors or visit an outdoor public place."
*
So stop worrying people. You can go for walks and you can drive to go for walks.

But the rules also say to avoid all non-essential travel by public or private transport - meaning we need to walk local, no?

Danglingmod · 01/11/2020 11:32

I think a walk in the countryside (or an urban park) is all most of have been doing since February. I haven't been inside anyone's house or a pub/cafe/restaurant/gym/leisure centre /museum or shop except corner shop and post office.

I love walks in the countryside but it is pretty much ALL that most of us have done for eight months.

LaLaLanded · 01/11/2020 11:32

We live in central London and don’t own a car. So getting to the lovely countryside will involve doing something out of the ordinary to get there which, while it might not be expressly against the guidelines, wouldn’t be in the spirit of them.

We’ll keep walking around our local parks which we’re very lucky to have, and I will keep road-running for exercise. We won’t be seeing green space for a while...

slashlover · 01/11/2020 11:33

Are you going by the to exercise outdoors or visit an outdoor public place - with the people you live with, with your support bubble or, when on your own, with 1 person from another household.

part and ignoring the

Essential travel includes, but is not limited to

essential shopping
travelling to work where your workplace is open or you cannot work from home
travelling to education and for caring responsibilities
hospital GP and other medical appointments or visits where you have had an accident or are concerned about your health.

Exercising is fine, TRAVELLING to exercise is not listed as essential travel.

tenlittlecygnets · 01/11/2020 11:34

@Arosadra - In Wales we’re specifically told not to take a packed lunch and that a picnic isn’t allowed under the guidelines

😯 really? Hadn't realised that.

chomalungma · 01/11/2020 11:34

But the rules also say to avoid all non-essential travel by public or private transport - meaning we need to walk local, no

The guidelines say you SHOULD avoid non essential travel.

That's not the law though. If that's what you mean by 'rules'

OP posts:
chomalungma · 01/11/2020 11:35

Exercising is fine, TRAVELLING to exercise is not listed as essential travel

Again - do you know the difference between SHOULD and MUST

OP posts:
slashlover · 01/11/2020 11:35

So because it's just advised and not law then it's fine? Cool.

tenlittlecygnets · 01/11/2020 11:35

@ScribblingPixie

I read that exercise is encouraged and also that there's going to be a 1+1 rule that says it's ok for one person to meet one friend and walk together - which I think is really sensible and healthy.
But that one person is the one person a family can add to their bubble. You can't meet a random friend every day of lockdown!
chomalungma · 01/11/2020 11:36

@slashlover

So because it's just advised and not law then it's fine? Cool.
It's not illegal.
OP posts:
mum2jakie · 01/11/2020 11:37

It's been pissing it down for weeks here. The daily walks aren't a thing of pleasure at this time of year and certainly won't be staying out for a picnic. Will be cheaper anyway - all money going towards home improvements as it is now my long term workplace too and sick of living in a shit hole!

MrsPernicious · 01/11/2020 11:37

It says you SHOULD not travel except for essential purposes
It does not say you MUST not travel

Found any other loopholes?
Surely it won't take long to render the entire lockdown pointless.

The idea is to limit the movement of people as much as possible, therefore limiting the spread of the virus.
If everyone jumps in their car and decamps to the local beauty spot, it gets crowded.
Do exercise but don't be a prat.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 01/11/2020 11:38

There is a reason they've said SHOULDN'T not MUSTN'T.
So that for those without easy access to outdoor spaces they can exercise outdoors in the fresh air.
If they meant MUSTN'T they'd have said so.

NannyGythaOgg · 01/11/2020 11:38

Oooh How exciting

I really really didn't know this and totally needed you to tell me

Wow 🤮🤮🤮

chomalungma · 01/11/2020 11:38

Found any other loopholes

It's not a loophole.
It's about people knowing their rights,

OP posts:
slashlover · 01/11/2020 11:39

I get it, it's just advised to stop the spread, the rapidly rising case numbers and the deaths of old people and it's actually not illegal.

Carry on.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 01/11/2020 11:39

Can't believe we're here again. Its like fucking groundhog day.

Tenlittle.. no it's not it's separate to the bubble system. You can meet a random friend everyday of lockdown if you are meeting to have a walk outside complying with social distancing

ScribblingPixie · 01/11/2020 11:45

@TenCygnets This is from the government website. Am I missing something?

  1. Stay at home
This means you must not leave or be outside of your home except for specific purposes. These include: ... to exercise outdoors or visit an outdoor public place - with the people you live with, with your support bubble or, when on your own, with 1 person from another household.
Devillishlypicklypickles · 01/11/2020 11:47

I live in a village on Dartmoor, I'm just going to sit in my nice warm house and look at the countryside, and laugh at all the soggy people!!

shinynewapple2020 · 01/11/2020 11:47

I thought we were being advised not to travel out of our areas so for me that would read that if I have countryside that's 5 miles away where I can walk that's fine but not to drive across the country .

We did a lot of country walks earlier in the summer but had eased off as other things had opened up. So yes we will be doing what we can to get out and if that's a walk with a flask that's what we'll be doing '
