But the pubs will be shut so you can't get a lovely lunch whilst out

So it's going to be pack lunches again.

At least this time there won't be people complaining about people exercising in the Peak District like last time!

Nice to feel the fresh air on your bare arse

Orcus · 03/11/2020 21:16

@Orcus

I, on the other hand, hope to see as many MNers as possible referring to them whenever anyone invents a rule about the duration or permitted travel distance for exercise in England.
Ok I definitely didn't post that again at 21.07. Site gremlins tonight!

That’s mostly the Covid threads on here 🤷🏻‍♀️

We should all be encouraging family, friends and neighbours to stay at home as much as possible, and holding them accountable when they overstep the spirit of the rules

Honestly, I don’t know who some people think they are. I’m accountable under the law. Not to Bob down the road. FGS.

Earlgrey666 · 04/11/2020 07:40

Thank you OP for posting this, I really struggled mentally in lockdown and being able to drive to my local beautiful countryside for a walk will really help.

It's going to be extremely fucking fresh in the middle of November!

Some people would be much happier in China or North Korea.

I won't be holding anyone accountable and if any of my friends turn into sanctimonious twats who don't even understand the legislation they'll soon be former friends.

Well, they imagine they would!

What do you mean "holding them accountable"? Tutting behind their back or shopping them to the police??

Honestly, this kind of attitude is what is going to swell the ranks of the Nigel Farage anti-lockdown party.

Hold them accountable how? Get a loudspeaker to yell at neighbours who have left the house more than once that day?
My family, friends and neighbours are accountable to the law, not to me.

Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 09:24

Trouble is, "the spirit of the rules" gives curtain twitchers and busibodies carte-blanche to smack away on their keyboards, posting on the local FB page, ranting about people who went for two walks

MaudesMum · 04/11/2020 09:26

I'm delighted to see there's a bit more flexibility in this lockdown. I live by myself and work from home. I have another friend in a similar situation who lives about 40 minutes drive away. Knowing that we can meet up roughly mid-way and have a decent walk is really encouraging and one of the things that will keep me going through this new lockdown.

Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 09:28

Exactly. And these kind of things will mean people adhere to the rules for longer and more effectively.

They do indeed. There needs to be as much opportunity as possible for people to take recreation and exercise outdoors, because otherwise some of them are going to do it inside instead. For the same reason it's brilliant that parks and NT properties are staying open.
Ecosse · 04/11/2020 09:44

@Ignoringequally

A neighbour of mine called the police to report a neighbour walking her dog 3 times a day. So there certainly will be people to enforce the rules.

Your neighbour sounds like a sad and bored person.

Did the police send round a car with flashing lights to handcuff this criminal dog walker? With you applauding from behind the net curtains?

Ecosse · 04/11/2020 09:52

@IcedPurple

The police did come and speak to the dog walker and she was told to stay at home and only walk her dog the permitted once a day.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 04/11/2020 09:59

  • I hope the regulations above are not widely reported by the media or the lockdown will be a waste of time.

The central message is that people should be staying at home at all times for the duration of the lockdown period, unless they are a key worker, cannot get a food delivery slot or cannot exercise at home.

If they absolutely have to shop or exercise outside the home, this should be done as infrequently as possible. People should not be going in and out of their houses multiple times a day.

Hopefully people will abide by the spirit rather than the letter of the rules, even if that requires a degree of societal pressure. We should all be encouraging family, friends and neighbours to stay at home as much as possible, and holding them accountable when they overstep the spirit of the rules.*

Jesus, I don’t even know where to begin with this.

I can’t believe you want people to be ignorant of the law. Confused

That is not the central message at all! You don’t get to put your own slant on it. The legislation is extremely clear that people can leave the house to go shopping, for exercise, or outdoor recreation. Nowhere does it state or even imply people can only do those things if they cannot do them from home. It doesn’t say only keyworkers can go to work. It says they can go to work if the job cannot reasonably be done from home. So even if you are a keyworker and your job can be done from home, you should stay at home. See how knowing the legislation actually helps.

And as for your final paragraph, people should abide by the legislation, not by some busybody’s interpretation of it!!

Good job that now she'd be totally allowed to walk her dog 20 times a day if she wants.

I walked my dog 3x a day during the last lockdown, and went for a run, and went to feed and ride my horses twice a day. So there.

"You can only leave home for very limited reasons, such as if you are a key worker, to go to school, your 1 hour a day exercise and food shopping if you cannot get a delivery slot."

Stop talking shite. I am going to start reporting posts like that as you are obviously trolling.

Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 10:22

Huh?

You can go to work if your work is open, you can exercise outside as much as you like and you can go shopping for food even if there are a gazillion free slots.

Noideawottodo · 04/11/2020 10:24

Are you genuinely this ignorant?

By the way, dh and I went to work throughout the last lockdown. We run our own business, we aren't key workers. All businesses could legally stay open.
