So frustrated with all the people, from the ineffective and blustering MP to the idiots out trick or treating tonight............

When will people learn that a bloody pandemic cannot be ignored and that insisting on personal freedoms/ personal preferences is NOT going to shorten the lock downs or save the vulnerable ? Sad

No government would have got it right , you cant please everyone and this is something this country has not faced since the spanish flu, so even labour wouldve fucked it up .

Rosebel · 31/10/2020 20:09

I blame the government. Not because of their policies but because they don't follow their own advice. Travel in lockdown? Travel while carrying symptoms of the virus? Not allowed, unless of course your a member of the Tory party.
I also always thought they lifted the restrictions too quickly but I am getting scared.
I do rely on family to help with my children and am now thrown back in the shit dealing with PND, three children and the fact I'm in agony most of the time.
Anyway I don't think the majority will follow the rules this time as they've had enough.

got a few nibbles there didn't I!

take your masks off - it may help you relax
I'm relaxed, I just think you are a twat if you think not wearing a mask is anything to be proud of.

Lifeisabeach09 · 31/10/2020 20:11

Blame people who refuse to wear masks, who mix with others ignoring the rules, stupid people who think there’s some conspiracy theory to it all, who refuse to follow rules because they think they don’t apply to them. It doesn’t matter what the government put in place, if idiots refuse to follow the rules, then it’s all pretty pointless. And there are a hell a lot of idiots out there - you really can’t argue with stupid..

What do you expect when govt rules are so inconsistent? If the govt had been firm from the start 'wear a mask unless exempt or face a fine' and be clear about where to wear them instead of token recommendations and passing the buck to LAs, schools and private enterprises re maskwearing, maybe, people would have been more compliant.
But I find a lot of the govt messages have been fairly wishy-washy except, of course, the lovely 'happy birthday' twice over sing-song we had at the start along the 2m then 1m social distancing.
As for the rules on mixing, holy hell, some of those rules made no damn sense....for instance, you could sit in the pub with 5 friends (if eating) or strangers but you couldn't have a family member in your garden!

So, hardly surprising, a lot of folks didn't follow the rules.

@CoronaIsWatching

YABU because the spread is caused by schools. Everything was fine in June, July, August, as soon as schools open there's an explosion of cases. Coincidence? I think not.
Except that cases were rising in August before schools went back!

There is another thread on MN where many posters accuse the Brits of being arrogant.

gjejgej fits the stereotype.

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 20:15

It's not JUST schools, but they are clearly a major factor.

The whole country relaxed, and most offices / businesses went back to normal. Masks became the norm, but the hand washing became less prevalent and the 2m -> 1m rules pretty much went out the window.

We got complacent, and we're paying the price for it.

We're still being complacent with tonights measures and will pay the price for those pitiful restrictions too.

Belladonna12 · 31/10/2020 20:15

@Sonders

Our local spikes were caused by students, who were moving from all across the country into halls with lots of residents and communal facilities. This only happened because the universities need fees, and the students didn't have a choice, the only ones who did were the government sooooo...

Of course there are some wallies about, but most of the people catching and spreading the disease are normal, considerate people trying their best.

Cases have gone down greatly in most universities though and there is no evidence that it spread into the rest of the community.

I wonder how many grannies I've killed during my mask-free trips to Sainsbury's?
I don't know. Neither do you, do you actually understand the meaning of the word asymptomatic? I doubt it, it's got quite a few letters in it after all.

But oh noes! You can't breathe! Your lippy might get smugged! Your glasses might get a bit steamed up! The humanity!

Buddytheelf85 · 31/10/2020 20:18

It's the over 65's who've actually given you the world you live in ! Without them you'd be speaking german for a start.............hmm

Well, given WW2 ended 75 years ago, and generally speaking you had to be 18 to make any contribution to the war effort, that seems a bit of a stretch. Anyone who was 18 in 1945 is now 93.

rwalker · 31/10/2020 20:18

Just look at other countries everyone having resurgance . It started with one case unless you eradicate it it will just come back.
How do you stop a virus which is spread by asymptomic people .

MadinMarch · 31/10/2020 20:18

It’s got fuck all to do with individuals the errors are made at the top.

I bloody despise this government with a passion, BUT I think individuals are equally responsible.
We will not be able to get this virus under control unless everyone is on board and decides totake on board the restrictions in full.
Unfortunately, I don't think the general public will do this.(judging by all the comments on threads on here).
I hate to think how people would manage in an even more serious situation if they had to. I can't help but compare how my grandparent coped when they had to evacuate their children during ww2 for example, or all the multiple hardships millions of refugees are currently going through.
Honestly, people should be ashamed of themselves..
they had to

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 20:19

Cases have gone down greatly in most universities though and there is no evidence that it spread into the rest of the community.

There is plenty of evidence to show a huge prevalence in 18-30 year olds contracting the virus, with a lagged 'spread' to older folks.

Quite why there is such a prevalence is difficult to pinpoint, but pubs, parties, workplaces and education are pretty obvious candidates.

This is what the government wants. Division. Let’s blame the young. The old. The people that need to travel to work... we need to blame the government and their inept way of dealing with this. They are making the public turn on one another.

The WHO and other scientists say that lockdown doesn’t help. We need to help those who are vulnerable, but without killing others - cancelled medical appointments, struggling to see a doctor (thereby worsening condition), suicide (money worries), domestic violence.

justasking111 · 31/10/2020 20:19

We have labour in Wales, would you blame them? The SNP in Scotland? Don`t be daft it is a virus like a cold we cannot avoid viruses. As for rule breakers apparently we have 95% compliance in the UK which is pretty bloody amazing I think.

updownroundandround · 31/10/2020 20:19

@gjejgej

I wonder how many grannies I've killed during my mask-free trips to Sainsbury's?

I'm going to assume that you're mentally deficient/ unwell, or that you are, in fact, aged 12 Hmm

That's a particularly nasty and offensive post, especially as there will be posters who have lost loved ones to this virus.

Now will you please go away and let the grown up's talk..........Hmm

When I saw the SAGE prediction of 4k deaths a day when no country in the world has hit half that figure since March daily I gave up on their daft charts.

gjejgej · 31/10/2020 20:21

@BoingBoingyBoing

Not sure why the tone of your posts is so aggressive...I've been nothing but nice to you!

I don't actually find masks that bothersome, but I refuse to wear something which has no impact on the spread of the virus.

Livelovebehappy · 31/10/2020 20:21

You know the idiots and unintelligent I mentioned upthread? Gjejgej has put themselves forward as an example. And fits the description perfectly. People who are probably an underachiever but have found the perfect opportunity to do something that doesn’t need any intellect - ‘I don’t wear a mask and am proud’ 🙄

Lmao. The only battles today's 65 year olds ever fought against the Germans were for sun loungers.
