So frustrated with all the people, from the ineffective and blustering MP to the idiots out trick or treating tonight............

When will people learn that a bloody pandemic cannot be ignored and that insisting on personal freedoms/ personal preferences is NOT going to shorten the lock downs or save the vulnerable ? Sad

@from2metersthrowmeasweet oh yeah our local pub was having a halloween/early fireworks party earlier, beer garden was packed, big groups of teenagers, no distancing.

1Morewineplease · 31/10/2020 22:14

Tesco , this afternoon was jam packed. Social distancing seemed to be a thing of the past.
Bought bare essentials and left.
It's as though a piece of flimsy fabric over your face makes you invincible.

Orcus · 31/10/2020 22:18

@NRatched

If its about rulebreakers, why is the likes of Spain seeing a masssive resurgance right now, when they are much more 'compliant' than us, as we are told regularly. Apparently the UK is really bad for not listening and stuff, but a lot of countries that apparently have 'better behaved' citizens..are also back in the shit.

All of the rules could be followed by absolutely everyone, and the numbers would still rise as its about people mixing, and large amounts of people have to mix for school and work. So while mixing goes on, the virus will continue to spread. Unless we dish out spacesuits or something to everyone who has to leave the house.

I want my government issued spacesuit for Lidl.
VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 22:19

Because all countries have lifted their restrictions quite quickly and the public have become complacent.
The rest of Europe is no less immune to complacency.

The vast majority of interaction is happening in larger establishments - schools, universities, hospitals, workplaces... and those are continuing.

Yes, cafes and pubs etc will not have helped, but compared to the call centres, cramped offices, shared vans, construction sites etc up and down the country, it's pissing in the wind to close a pub.

I am pretty sure a van load of construction workers in Spain probably share similar traits to a van load in England. Likewise, a call center in Madrid will probably act the same way as one in Manchester. They'll probably make a token gesture of wiping down phones and keyboards once in a while, but the chairs and desks and monitors get missed... door handles touched 1000s of times a day by 100s of people etc etc...

Same shit, different country.

Jaxhog · 31/10/2020 22:19

It’s got fuck all to do with individuals the errors are made at the top.

So no-one else has ANY responsibility towards society? The problem is that a significant number of individuals don't give a toss about anyone else if it 'inconveniences' them. Short of full martial law, the 'top' can't make us comply. That's up to us individuals.

Unsure33 · 31/10/2020 22:21

Well I think this thread actually shows it is more likely the fault of the Great british public.

If you blame deaths from a virus on a government it shows your intelligence is lacking .

Ou would not need track and trace if you followed the rules .

It has been all over this site how people were breaking the rules and you just told them to mind their own business.

Our begged the government to keep the schools open for your child’s mental health and then critisise them when they do .

What a load of absolute hypocrites.

TildaKauskumholm · 31/10/2020 22:24

Do you even need to ask? Yes the minority who are too thick/bolshie whatever to go along with the rules have in large part brought this about.

Orcus · 31/10/2020 22:25

You really just posted that we wouldn't need track and trace if everyone followed the rules and you have the cheek to talk about other people lacking intelligence?!

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 22:25

It's the government AND the people.

The Government has to educate the public to a point they understand, and create rules are as unambiguous as possible, and logical.

Sadly, the virus is not fully understood and many governments have just improvised with varying degrees of success.

Different countries have different issues - and some have fared better than others. We've not done very well. It's a combination of poor government decisions and apathy from the population. The two often go hand in hand, as a succession of poor choices tends to result in poor compliance and belief.

Unsure33 · 31/10/2020 22:26

If you are social distancing and obeying the rules why do you blame track and trace ?

Idiots .

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 22:27

Following the rules will NOT eradicate the virus. It will keep it at manageable levels.
Track and Trace will still be needed in order to contain an outbreak.
Compliance will be needed, or it the whole thing collapses.

We've lifted rules too soon.
Trace and Trace has been diabolical.
Compliance hasn't been great.

So, we've been a bit shit at all three, and it shows.

cactusdog · 31/10/2020 22:28

I think it is total insanity and also really nasty this blame slinging game.

When I'm history have people been blamed for a virus! Utterly insane!

You don't go round pointing fingers at people who've got colds.

The sheer arrogance of these individuals is gross.

It's 👏 a 👏 virus 👏 it's 👏 here to stay.

Also as PP has said it is rising again in countries with high compliance.

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 22:30

If you are obeying the rules and socially distance - you can still get the virus.
Obeying the rules and socially distancing helps reduce the likelihood, not prevent it.

If you get it, Track and Trace helps to contain in, and 'nip it in the bud' - providing testing catches the infection, and that people adhere to the isolation.

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 22:34

When I'm history have people been blamed for a virus! Utterly insane!

Bubonic plague (bacteria)?
HIV?

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 31/10/2020 22:37

It was inevitable

The virus was never going to go away we ease restrictions and the virus spreads more

Sadly this is going to be our lives for some time it’s difficult it’s terrible for some

NRatched · 31/10/2020 22:39

Ou would not need track and trace if you followed the rules

Intrigued at how you come to this conclusion? Given 'following the rules' still has many people in contact with each other all the time. Not sure how we wouldn't need test and trace, but genuinely interested in wh you think this

Mokusspokus · 31/10/2020 22:40

As pp said, it's a virus, like cold or flu.. It's airborne, it's highly contagious.

Did you think we would eradicate it over the summer lock down? It's a marathon not a sprint.
I didn't expect it to go, I thought we would have to manage it with a series of different types of lock down until spring.. When we will have the benefit of time to learn about it and, a vaccine.

It's all buying us time. Most people are obeying rules, some to the detriment of basic common sense.
Poor information from the top, poor instructions.

Orcus · 31/10/2020 22:41

@Unsure33

If you are social distancing and obeying the rules why do you blame track and trace ?

Idiots .

You seem not to understand that it's totally possible to be acting entirely within the rules, doing nothing even close to illegal, and still potentially be exposed. Social distancing not only isn't and never was part of the rules (it couldn't be really) it also just isn't possible in a lot of jobs we as a society require in order to function.
Facelikearustytractor · 31/10/2020 22:44

Not another one of these threads. The pandemic won't stop just because everyone covers their face with a cloth. People touch surfaces all of the time, have been eating drinking in hospitality areas, most likely cleaned, but not eliminating the virus completely. Pretty much everyone has followed the rules most of the time, possibly letting their attention slip a couple of times and I'm sure you are in that category too OP.

catchabreak2020 · 31/10/2020 22:47

I don’t agree the vast majority are following the rules. I think the vast majority are mostly following the rules but not completely

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 22:48

Whilst SARS-CoV-2 can be airborne, it's believed that most infections are from close contact. It's not really floating around in the air willy nilly (as far as we know).

It's more likely to be transmitted in an airborne manner in an enclosed space with poor ventilation, or very unusual airflow patterns.

It's far more likely to be on your shoes and all over floors / carpets.

MintyMabel · 31/10/2020 23:01

If you are social distancing and obeying the rules why do you blame track and trace ?

Because social distancing reduces the risk, it doesn’t remove it. The rules said you could eat indoors in restaurants, meet indoors with your family, go to the gym. These things carried risks. Track and trace was supposed to allow these things to happen, keeping the risk low.

ArranBound · 31/10/2020 23:05

I know where you're coming from, OP. There are loads of idiots who insist on gathering. I read that, over one recent weekend, Police Scotland broke up almost 150 house parties. These party goers are horribly selfish and irresponsible.

But there are other contributing factors, like the government acting very late, the fact that some people simply have to go to work, have no option other than public transport etc.

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 31/10/2020 23:06

@AppleKatie

It’s got fuck all to do with individuals the errors are made at the top.
Utter bullshit. Sorry. It is time that people stop being so damn selfish and actually LISTEN to the government's advice. It is sickening how many people are still making feeble excuses to not wear masks, who meet up with huge groups of friends to go shopping, who lie to restaurant staff about their relationship with members of their group. The government can only do so much. It is time that EVERYONE started working together as a team.
bubblesforlife · 31/10/2020 23:10

While the guidance is not exactly clear, the message remains the same.
Keep your distance
Wash your hands
Wear your masks (unless you have a medical reason not to)

I live in London and to be frank, people disgust me. Carrying masks in their hands, wearing them under their chin, not wearing them and not social distancing, in shops.
People coughing into their hands.
People standing in qs for stores on their phones with their mask down under their chin as not to impact their phone calls.
Crowds of people Qing for bars.
Socialising.

A report on BBC news wound me up no end. This man who was bragging that we drove to derby to place his bets and have a pint because his town was in tier 3. He was so proud that he was able to what he felt outsmart the system. Fuck him and everyone else. Selfish bastards! Give yourself Covid, that’s your problem but don’t pass it onto others. We don’t want your disgusting germs.

I’m furious we are back here again. It’s not the governments faults. It’s the general public.
Boris is a joke, but he can’t wash your hands for you. It’s up to you!!!
