To be surprised that at how awful these dresses are?

I'm not sure awful is the right word or why Facebook would think I might like 'Pencil Me In' or 'Treat Yourself'?

......... Also a primary teacher and wouldn't be seen dead!

LakieLady · 31/10/2020 07:38

I quite like them, but then I love a retro dress.

They all seem to have the waists too high though, which I think makes the models look dumpy.

pictish · 31/10/2020 07:42

Must say I’ve had fantastic shopping inspiration from Mumsnet over the years...someone always knows a good site to check out on here.

I agree with a previous poster that the passion on here for Toast is more surprising. I’d buy a Harkel dress over a dreary, shapeless item from bloody Toast any time.

HalloweenGhostlyHare · 31/10/2020 07:45

I like them. Sadly I am apple shaped so they would look awful on me but I would love to be able to wear some.

footprintsintheslow · 31/10/2020 07:51

@MandosHatHair

Thanks for posting that collage *@Crunchymum* I have the dress in the bottom right hand corner. I really love it but I think it may stay in the wardrobe for a while after reading this thread Blush
No don't stop wearing it, the dresses are lovely and if people don't like them they don't have to buy them or wear them or even browse them online.
pictish · 31/10/2020 07:56

Not at all...wear your dress. Don’t let this thread put you off. Wear your dress, be yourself.

BakedTattie · 31/10/2020 07:57

I like them! Atleast they’re different and not the same boring grey dress

nomdeplume2019 · 31/10/2020 08:19

Love the styles but is there a lack of adults material!

Enko · 31/10/2020 08:22

This is the sort of style dd2 and her friends wear i quite like them now but to begin with were a bit oh wow ok...

Didyousaynutella · 31/10/2020 08:28

I kind of like the parrot and zebra ones. But someone upthread nailed it.

Most are too tryhard “quirky” if you are over a certain age.

I can imagine the same person that has lots of rockabilly dresses and tattoos on their chest and 50’s styled pink hair might go for these.

ParadeOfRemotes · 31/10/2020 08:28

I like them! Especially the ones in crunchys collage. I really don't think they are that crazy or wild and I'm a black leggings and grey knitted jumper day in day out type person....

I find it strange to be so shocked by them that you started an AIBU thread about them! There's much worse/crazier out there.

FippertyGibbett · 31/10/2020 08:31

They are the sort of frocks those ‘holiday home in the sun’ presenters wear.
Not my style but they are cute,

GlummyMcGlummerson · 31/10/2020 08:31

@Iamthewombat

Not all of us want to look like Dillard's and dress in insipid navy and black

What is a ‘Dillard’? I just googled and got a US department store named Dillard’s but I assume that was not what you meant.

Did you mean ‘dullards’? You do know that a dullard is someone dull witted and stupid? Do you mean ‘a person who dresses in dull colours’?

Yea I meant dullard, bloody auto correct!

And dullard means unimaginative or boring person actually. Not dim witted.

knittingaddict · 31/10/2020 08:31

I like them, but i do love colour. I'm too old for them, but my daughter would look stunning in some of those.

knittingaddict · 31/10/2020 08:33

Driving traffic to that site op?

glummymcglummerson · 31/10/2020 08:36

@D4rwin

I like them a lot, I do wear stuff like this and find the ageism about clothes frankly sad, you only live once! But I won't buy anything advertised on Facebook as it's usually some sort of scam.
Yes what is it with the simpering "Oh I'm far too old for that!".

What kind of ageist anti-feminist bullshit is this that older women have to wear boring clothes?! I'm in my late 30's and wear bold colours, Harkle is my favourite online store. If people see me and "cringe" and think "oh my what in earth is she wearing isn't she terribly old to wear that" I would think they were a massive sad act who actually probably needs to feel a little better about themselves and think that tearing me down is the way to do it.

The irony is when I was younger I cared deeply about what people thought of my clothes, when apparently young people can get away with anything. I now where clothes that, according to MN, are horrifying, and couldn't give two shits. Not my fault I look awesome in what I wear and other people can't handle it 😎

inappropriateraspberry · 31/10/2020 08:37

I think they look great - bright and fun. What's wrong with them?

Minesril · 31/10/2020 08:39

I love them! They remind me of a shop called 'Petticoats and pocket watches' in Cambridge which also does vintage type dresses. Have just bought a dungaree dress which has the benefit that I can breast feed in it!

StanfordPines · 31/10/2020 08:43

I have a much younger colleague who always dresses well but the clothes she wears are ones I wouldn’t even pick up. They look great on her but not right on me. They are from stores like H&M and Topshop. Those stores just don’t appeal to me. It doesn’t mean that she is dressing badly or that those clothes are wrong, just different.

That’s my friend’s shop! She’s done so well selling those kinds of dresses. Just opened her 3rd shop in about 5 years. I have a lot of dresses from her.

No no, please none of that. Otherwise we'll have to have the same boring haircuts after a certain age too.
Pinkyandthebrainz · 31/10/2020 08:47

Some of them are actually alright if you like that colourful, "girly" style. They aren't to my taste but they're not the worst dresses I've seen.

LynetteScavo · 31/10/2020 08:47

They're what a newly qualified Reception teacher would wear in a film staring Adam Sandler.

mrsswayze · 31/10/2020 08:48

I love them and I'm not a primary school teacher! I have similar from Joanie

LaurieFairyCake · 31/10/2020 08:52

Thanks for the link OP 👍🏻 Love those frocks and I've bought a jumper as it's lovely cotton and viscose Thanks
