To think this women was being ridiculous

I was walking my dog earlier and he stopped on the pavement to do a week against a lamp-post, standard dog behaviour.

A woman went past and made a passive aggressive comment about how it was disgusting that i'd let him wee there and that it was really unhygienic because we were outside a supermarket and 'near to food'.

This is ridiculous because in order to actually get into the supermarket and be near to the food, you'd have to go through the 2 sets of automatic doors!

I just gave her a look and walked on because I couldn't be arsed with an argument, but she was being ridiculous wasn't she?

Op yanbu although I dislike dogs and find the weeing on lampposts thing gross I get that it's what they do and not your fault.

I think it’s gross. If a human was pissing up a lamppost it would be unacceptable and they would be fined.

Yet a fluffy creature under control of a human can piss where it wants.

Maybe the woman has one of the many little kids who like to grab onto lampposts and swing round them?

It could be worse OP, my 5 year old boy did a wee up the side of my car in Tesco the other day (he was absolutely busting, Tesco loos were closed) and I thought no one could see...but a lady walked past and shouted out 'disgusting' at us 🤣🤣 some people just love to moan and usually don't have pets (or children!)

Where would you like dogs to piss then? Should I be carrying a potty around for it to use?

Realistically it makes no difference, though. Even if a dog isn't pissing against it you could have people throwing up there or sneezing or coughing onto it, and rats, mice, birds and foxes peeing and defecating on it. If you choose to let your children grab lampposts that's the risk you accept.

We were at the park the other day and my kids were using a scooter and a bag - which had some fruits, water bottle etc - for goalposts and this little dog runs up and pees straight on the bag! The owner apologised... there was nothing to do except walk with a dripping bag n chuck it in the nearest bin. It is annoying sometimes.

All of you who don't let your dog wee on the pavement, genuine question, where do you let them pee? My dog refuses to wee in the garden at home.

Garden or grassy verges on the way to the field. If we are on a pavement I just keep walking briskly until we get to a grassy area that’s suitable. Guess it depends where you live but i find there’s plenty of suitable spots on our walk that don’t involve peeing on the pavement.
