To think this women was being ridiculous

I was walking my dog earlier and he stopped on the pavement to do a week against a lamp-post, standard dog behaviour.

A woman went past and made a passive aggressive comment about how it was disgusting that i'd let him wee there and that it was really unhygienic because we were outside a supermarket and 'near to food'.

This is ridiculous because in order to actually get into the supermarket and be near to the food, you'd have to go through the 2 sets of automatic doors!

I just gave her a look and walked on because I couldn't be arsed with an argument, but she was being ridiculous wasn't she?

This thread is even better than cat shit threads Grin.

Taylrse · 30/10/2020 06:53

I'll never forget when I was taking my dad's dog for a walk when I was younger.
We were walking down the road past a carpark entrance to a shop and the dog stops and does a poo right there and then with cars trying to get into the carpark!
I was mortified and no matter how hard I tugged, the dog was not gonna let anyone stop him doing a poo Grin
I then had to clean it up with an audience watching me Blush

Anyway I'm not a massive dog lover but have no problem with them peeing against a lamppost. I thought they all did it 🤷🏻‍♀️
and that lady talking about it being unhygienic because of food which was safely packaged up inside a shop is just bonkers.

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/10/2020 06:55

I used to have a dog and I would try and encourage him to go on grassy areas or in the park. I would have been embarrassed if my dog has pissed right outside a supermarket to be honest but I don’t suppose there’s much you could have done except change your walking route.

Anyonebut · 30/10/2020 06:57

Well, there are cities where owners are obliged to carry a bottle of soapy water and wash off their dog’s wee to avoid damage to buildings and urban furniture

FreshfieldsGal · 30/10/2020 06:57

I take a squeezy water bottle with me when I walk DDog, it has water and Zoflora in and I use it when he has a wee.
I saw a woman doing it when we were last on holiday and thought it was a good idea so I’ve done it since then.

LST · 30/10/2020 07:03

@whatkatydid just out of curiosity, if your batshit plan came to pass, what would happen to all the pets?

Pumperthepumper · 30/10/2020 07:08

@Katypyee

And the suggestion(s) that we take a spray bottle of water with us to squirt every time our dogs take a wee outside is just ridiculous.
Why is it? This is quite a common thing in cities now and it’s a good idea, especially if you’ve no choice but to let your dog pee where people have to walk.
Roussette · 30/10/2020 07:09

In certain towns in Spain there are drains on the ground with signs and pictures suggesting the dogs wee down the drains. AND you have to carry a bottle with disinfectant and water in, to wash down where your dogs wee, as a PP said.

Also some towns have dog public conveniences. Brilliant idea!

LaMarschallin · 30/10/2020 07:16

What was "passive aggressive" about her comment?
She seems to have told you (rightly or wrongly) that she didn't like your dog weeing on the lamp post and why.
Nothing passive-aggressive about that.

Or is it just one of those random phrases people throw around without really understanding them? Was she a "narc" too?

HaggieMaggie · 30/10/2020 07:17

The problem with dogs peeing on lamp posts or walls or my mums garden gate is that once they do it, it’s very attractive to other dogs. Hence why my poor mum age 84 year has to swill buckets of disinfectant outside her gate regularly.

WitchesSpelleas · 30/10/2020 07:18

Humans are one amongst billions of animal species on this planet. We are the only species that insists on bodily waste being tidied away into a sewage system. That's fine, but we don't have the right to impose our regime on other species. We've already ruined the planet for many animals and driven millions to extinction. The least we can do is let the remaining animals piss where they want to.

Deathraystare · 30/10/2020 07:19

Didn't i read on here that Zoflora when wet is dangerous to pets???

I really don't see what is wrong with peeing on lampposts. They are creatures of habit and like to scent mark. Far worse is the people that tug their dog along and don't let them scent mark. Are they not allowing them to toilet at all. What is the point of taking them walkies then???

Vello · 30/10/2020 07:23

Curb your dog. Everyone (mostly) manages it in NY.

Totally agree for those animals who run free and are wild. Domesticated pets are different.

Classicbrunette · 30/10/2020 07:31

I’m a dog walker, and I can tell you it’s impossible to stop a dog from shitting or pissing where they like. Best to take them to the woods or common, but when it’s really muddy, owners don’t want their dogs back in a muddy state ! So taking the for walks on pathways is the only answer. I always pick up shit, but the pissing is another matter. Maybe I should carry a potty Grin BrizNiz I’m right with you Grin

Ellmau · 30/10/2020 07:34

When a dog has got to go, they've got to go. They don't understand that they have to wait until they are standing on grass

And yet somehow they can learn not to do it inside your home... I hope.

Our DDog was trained to go in specific places, and never on a path.

Admittedly, some breeds are less trainable than others generally, and I've not had a male dog where they do it frequently to mark their passage which I would imagine is harder to curb.

Lindtballsrock · 30/10/2020 07:41

Omg at zoflora-ing the outside world now!

Brefugee · 30/10/2020 07:42

I'm not particularly keen on dog piss everywhere to be honest. The supermarket thing is a bit of a reach, though.

Rainallnight · 30/10/2020 07:44

I suspect public opinion will shit over the next decade or two

Freudian slip, @BackforGood? Grin

Loveable1 · 30/10/2020 07:46

Dog owner here...we have a dog who will literally wee/poop where ever she feels like it outside. We have tried hard to train her to try and do it in more appropriate places but frankly we have given up. She is now a Older dog and when she wants to go there is nothing we can do to stop her, this includes if we are crossing a road and she decides yep she is now ready! Grin drives us crazy as we never know when suddenly she is going to do it!

Don’t have a problem with dog wee or poop as long as the poop is cleared up what I do have a problem with is the 6 neighbourhood cats that use my garden as their toilet!!!!!!

SimplyRadishing · 30/10/2020 07:47

🤣🤣🤣 at these comments.

When my dog decides they're peeing, they are peeing.

Amazed they think you should be shoving a cork in your dogs urethra.

JamminDoughnuts · 30/10/2020 07:47

my dog does prefer to wee on the grass but if the pavement is a long walk to the grass she will wee on the pavement. dogs peeing on the lamppost is marking their territory. the woman was absolutely ridiculous.

WitchesSpelleas · 30/10/2020 07:49

Zoflora outside is not a good idea, unless you want to kill off wildlife in your area.

JamminDoughnuts · 30/10/2020 07:49

you can of course stop a dog from pooing where you dont want it to! you just pull it to where you want it to

nicerbeing · 30/10/2020 07:49

@Purpledaisychain

To the people (who have presumably never owned a dog before) that are saying that letting them wee on lamp posts etc, what do you suggest we do? Tie their little penises in a knot/shove corks up their vaginas and up their arses until we get them back home?

Biology 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also, I think people are suggesting dogs are trained not that we 'shove' anything inside them Confused
