To think this women was being ridiculous

Trizzlenbizzle · 29/10/2020 23:29

I was walking my dog earlier and he stopped on the pavement to do a week against a lamp-post, standard dog behaviour.

A woman went past and made a passive aggressive comment about how it was disgusting that i'd let him wee there and that it was really unhygienic because we were outside a supermarket and 'near to food'.

This is ridiculous because in order to actually get into the supermarket and be near to the food, you'd have to go through the 2 sets of automatic doors!

I just gave her a look and walked on because I couldn't be arsed with an argument, but she was being ridiculous wasn't she?

Hmm... I think people here have too much time on their hands if this is something they get their socks in a twist about.

BadDucks · 30/10/2020 00:28

Dogs are real creatures of habit so it’s not unusual for them to form inflexible toileting regimes!
Ddog takes a dump in exactly the same spot in the long grass of our local field every single day.

BackforGood · 30/10/2020 00:29

I don't think you are getting the answers you were expecting here ? Grin

I'm another who thinks it is fairly gross to be honest. Not that it is near the shop specifically, but up lamposts and on pavements generally isn't very pleasant. I think it is something that will change - in the same way that dog owners now have to pick up after their dogs, which would have sounded very bizarre if anyone had suggested it when I was a child - I suspect public opinion will shit over the next decade or two.

Cocklepops · 30/10/2020 00:30

Yes she was. You know this already.

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 30/10/2020 00:30

If guide dogs don't piss or shit wherever then other dogs can be trained as well.

Dencar · 30/10/2020 00:31

I think we need signs around like NYC.
‘Curb your dog”
Don’t allow them to wee anywhere. If you’re rural, I generally isn’t an issue. In commercial & residential, move your dog to the curb.
At least when it rains the wee in the curb will be washed “down the drain”

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 30/10/2020 00:32

*A woman went past and made a passive aggressive comment about how it was disgusting that i'd let him wee there and that it was really unhygienic because we were outside a supermarket and 'near to food'.

Confused I’d presume she has issues and feel sorry for her. There’s no hygiene issue.

BuntysTwinkle · 30/10/2020 00:33

It's not like the outdoors is hermetically sealed and it's being ruined by dogs. Bird shit? Cats? Fox shit if you live in my town...

saraclara · 30/10/2020 00:33

I wouldn't have said anything, but I'd have thought "ew".

Purpledaisychain · 30/10/2020 00:34

To the people (who have presumably never owned a dog before) that are saying that letting them wee on lamp posts etc, what do you suggest we do? Tie their little penises in a knot/shove corks up their vaginas and up their arses until we get them back home?

LEELULUMPKIN · 30/10/2020 00:35

They were just carrying my DDad's coffin out of our house to put it in the hearse to set off for his funeral when a guy walking past with his dog stopped and started to let it shit right in front of of our gates/driveway as the pallbearers passed him.

I am a dog owner and love them but I won't repeat what I said to him.

Unbelievable how scummy some people are.

Purpledaisychain · 30/10/2020 00:39

@Dencar

Do you know how dangerous it would be on a busy road to make a dog wee over the edge of the curb? America voted Trump as President, as a nation, they are not sane people to copy.

StarCat2020 · 30/10/2020 00:39

Guide dogs are fed on a rigid schedule so they poo at a certain time.

People with dogs on this thread have said they get them to urinate on grass verges etc rather than on pavements outside shops. I mean presumably most dog owners have some control. I’m sure if your dog started shitting right on your front door step you’d manage to stop them and I’m sure you’ve managed to teach the dog shit in yout house.

Surely though, it’s for the people who actually own the dogs to figure out somewhere suitable for them to piss and shit...not non dog owners. I couldn’t give a toss what you have to do to stop your dog shitting or pissing in an inappropriate place....it’s not my responsibility because I don’t own the dog!

jessstan1 · 30/10/2020 00:43

Yes the woman was being ridiculous in those circumstances but it is the silly season and likely to go on until next Spring at least.

What an unnecessarily graphic post.
Purpledaisychain · 30/10/2020 00:46

@WhatifIfeellikeacat Guide dogs go through rigorous training, and they and other service dogs are not the same thing as your average house pet.

If you want to talk about disgusting, how about we talk about the ignorant arseholes who drop litter everywhere. That is a health hazard to humans, animals and the environment. Or the people who vomit, piss and shit in the streets after a night out. I don't see them picking up their mess in a poop bag afterwards. Have you ever known dog pee to hurt anyone? How is it going to really affect you unless you go around licking pavements/lamp posts? If you do, then dog pee really is the least of your problems.

Purpledaisychain · 30/10/2020 00:47

@Polpotnoodle

If you want us to stop our dogs doing their business everywhere, what else do you suggest? I suppose we could train them to use the big, but mine is only little. She'd probably fall down it. I'd have to put armbands on her.

Dazedandconfused10 · 30/10/2020 00:51

Dogs piss on things as a form of communication to others especially if they have been pissed on before.

throwaway100000 · 30/10/2020 00:55

I mean, dog piss is pretty disgusting. She’s not wrong there. It is piss after all.

Purpledaisychain · 30/10/2020 00:55

@AIMD

Have you ever owned a dog before?

And yes, mine does usually pee on grass but that is because I take her on walks where there is grass available. If there isn't grass available, she can't help but do it in the street. It has got fuck all to do with not having control of them either. When a dog has got to go, they've got to go. They don't understand that they have to wait until they are standing on grass to piss so they don't upset a bunch of irrational dog haters.

And all the people saying that they have their dog trained to only pee on grass. Oft, as if. That is like parents claiming their four month old speaks five different languages. They are either lying, or they yank it along by the collar to stop it weeing where it likes. Dogs scent mark. It is in their nature.

Purpledaisychain · 30/10/2020 00:58

OP, post on a different forum. Any forum other than mumsnet and most people will tell you that the woman was being unreasonable. Mumsnet is full of dog haters who have never owned a dog, think really bizarre things about them but think that they know all that there is to know. Grin

No I haven’t owned a dog because I don’t like picking up shit and I think people who do choose to own dogs should take responsibility for where their dog pisses and shits.

Ps I’m not a dog hater....I’m an irresponsible dog owner hater.

Purpledaisychain · 30/10/2020 01:09

@AIMD

I clear my dog's shit up. I don't let her poo in front of houses and shops etc because that can be controlled. Weeing is a different kettle of fish because she is scent marking. It is nature. If I try to walk her along briskly then we will just leave a trail of pee behind us. And seriously? What harm does it do? It sinks straight into the ground. Just don't lick the pavements. It is much better than the mess humans are regularly leaving behind. (I Iive near the lake district and the amount of people shitting on the mountains and not clearing up after themselves was gross). actually can't wait to show this thread to all my dog owning threads. They are going to make their sides hurt from laughing.

When you own a dog, you can come to me and tell me how irresponsible I am and how much I am doing wrong.
