That really?

I am drinking ALOT, i caught myself on last week when i drank a bottle of red wine and didn't have a hangover 😱 then i looked back on the week. 3 bottles of wine and a couple bottles of cider. Harry westons which is really strong.

I had a stressfull week and that was more than i usually drink but probably since lockdown im drinking most nights if not every night. Its usually 2 glasses of wine or a bottle of cider.

Thats too much and i need to stop, or cut back. So this is day 3 with no alcohol. Last night i really fancied a drink but i didnt have one, tonight ive not wanted any.

Im on ADs so i know its not a good mix.

I just wondered really how i compare to others?

Maybe 3 glasses of wine a week and 2 whiskeys or a gin and tonic. Not enough to get tipsy on.

Do I worry? No. I'm parenting a toddler and adjusting to a new job in a pandemic. A nice dinner and a glass of something keeps me going!!

ghostyslovesheets · 28/10/2020 22:33

Once a week maybe half a bottle of red or a couple of V&T’s - I decided I was drinking too much and it was making me fat and tired so I stopped more or less - now a couple of glasses makes me hungover so I can’t be arsed!

PurpleDaisies · 28/10/2020 22:34

One or two glasses of wine a week. I’m happy with that. I don’t want the extra calories or health risks to stop me enjoying a drink when I have one.

Well done for recognising you were drinking too much and taking action op. There are some great cutting alcohol support threads on here.

dancingqueen345 · 28/10/2020 22:36

I think I drink too much. I could easily have a couple of glasses of wine every night. Try to stop myself until Wed/Thursday, but from then until Sunday I probably get through 2 bottles of wine.

Would love to replace the wine with G&Ts but for me they're just aren't a 'house' drink quite like red wine is!

Merryoldgoat · 28/10/2020 22:38

The other week I realised I’d not had a drink in a month.

Then I got pissed with a friend (pre Tier 2) and I think we had two bottles of Prosecco each.

I’ve had two G&T’s this week.

I think I average about 4 units a week so I’m obviously not concerned but ore-children I was probably what would be described as a binge drinker.

No issue stopping for pregnancy though.

nanbread · 28/10/2020 22:39

I got into the habit during lockdown of drinking 6 or 7 nights a week. Not loads, usually only one or two smallish drinks with the odd night drinking more, but pretty regular. Before then I drank maybe 4 times a week.

More recently I've cut right down, having maybe one drink a week at home, plus maybe a couple if I'm going out, which isn't frequent (2-3 times a month). I found drinking made my anxiety worse, affected my sleep and left me feeling a bit poo. Thinking of knocking it on the head altogether tbh.

Northernsoullover · 28/10/2020 22:41

I don't drink anymore. When I actually counted my units I was quite horrified. My hangovers became excruciating too. I'm glad to see the back of it. I read rather a fab book called Alcohol Lied to Me by Craig Beck and I found it easy to stop after reading it.

VelvetTrews · 28/10/2020 22:41

In the week I have 2 no alcohol days and the other 2 days I will have a bottle of beer or a glass of wine. I do drink too much at the weekend though. A gin and tonic or two and half a bottle of wine quite easily go down on a Friday night. Times are tough and I have a lot on my plate but that’s no excuse - I do think I drink too much so trying to cut down. Following with interest and good luck OP.

TheoriginalLEM · 28/10/2020 22:42

Oh i can drink gin like water but thankfully its too expensive as i only like poncy expensive gin!

Im off work for two weeks but the habit was home from work couple glasses. If i cook dinner (rare as dp home first) ill easily put away a bottle of wine. I look forward to a drink when i get home.

Does this look like a problem? Ive always liked a drink but this is worrying me now.

nanbread · 28/10/2020 22:42

How big are your glasses of wine btw? Ours are tiny - maybe giving us 6 glasses to a bottle. Definitely helps with feeling rough when 2 glasses of wine is 1/3 not 2/3 a bottle

JaceLancs · 28/10/2020 22:44

I can drink far too much
A bottle of spirits would last me 2-4 evenings
It doesn’t worry me because I don’t do it all the time and can not drink just as easily
2-3 weeks ago I had a very stressful period and drank far too much
Last week I decided not to drink all week which I managed easily - planning on the same this week mainly because I want to lose weight and it’s just extra calories

VelvetTrews · 28/10/2020 22:46

I also look forward to having a drink. Sometimes I don’t even have it, but I like that Thursday evening feeling of being able to have some wine. That does concern me a little.

NaturalLight · 28/10/2020 22:46

I realised I was drinking too much when I could drink a bottle of wine in an evening and not really feel the effects in the morning. I was drinking that every Friday and Saturday evening so now trying to cutdown.

Storyoftonight · 28/10/2020 22:47

Yep.

I work full time and have a busy life but I am easily nailing a 70cl of gin in 2/3 nights. I know it's too much .

carpingon · 28/10/2020 22:48

A lot. The last few months it's been a couple of beers and then share a bottle of red most nights. Or if not wine then gin. I always mean to have free nights but it doesn't happen. I'm seeking help at the moment bc I feel it's gone overboard.

Mammylamb · 28/10/2020 22:48

Maybe a glass of wine every couple of months.

nanbread · 28/10/2020 22:49

I think a bottle of wine is a lot, personally. Especially if it's a regular thing. Expensive too if you're drinking nice stuff. I've been there myself though when I was younger.

It's the same as 10 shots of gin but you probably wouldn't drink 10 G&T, you'd probably get better value out of your expensive gin tbh

R3ALLY · 28/10/2020 22:51

Only drink Friday and Saturdays but 3/4 bottle wine each night and ideally I’d like to cut down to 1/2 per night. I drank every night on holiday and felt physically rotten afterwards

Readandwalk · 28/10/2020 22:52

About 4 bottles of wine a week. Not worried. Sometimes less but that's at the moment. Half a bottle with dinner. Can and do often do a four week break. Just really enjoying it at the moment.

nanbread · 28/10/2020 22:52

The other thing that helped me change my mindset, don't know if you take any other drugs but would you eg do pills, coke or smoke weed that often?

R3ALLY · 28/10/2020 22:52

That’s three quarters of a bottle per night not 3-4 !!!

Northernsoullover · 28/10/2020 22:52

I could easily put away a bottle of wine while cooking. Do I think I had a problem? Probably. But if I did those quiz type things I never officially did but I had to face up to the fact that the amount I was drinking would have been causing me harm even if it didn't appear so outwardly.
What worried me more was how dependent I was on it. I just couldn't wait to fill my glass when I came home. I tried to keep it to weekends but they became longer (thurs to Sunday) I tried drinking just a glass but once I had a sip that went out the window.
I couldn't even stop for a week which is when a friend suggested that book. After I had read it I looked at alcohol in a completely different light.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/10/2020 22:53

a thimble of sherry on a leap year Halloween Wink

Actually too much, and I know it, just lager, but more of it than I should drink, I'm cutting down.

seayork2020 · 28/10/2020 22:55

I drink one bottle a week over Fri-Sat night, sometimes a whisky on a Sunday night. Normal weeks if not events on/going out

I don't think this a problem, when asked by a doctor at normal medical checks I answer honestly and they have not mentioned any different

Skysblue · 28/10/2020 22:55

I have one glass of beer maybe twice a month, usually cos husband is having one. Not really fussed about alcohol. Expensive fattening, and unhealthy.
