That really?

I am drinking ALOT, i caught myself on last week when i drank a bottle of red wine and didn't have a hangover 😱 then i looked back on the week. 3 bottles of wine and a couple bottles of cider. Harry westons which is really strong.

I had a stressfull week and that was more than i usually drink but probably since lockdown im drinking most nights if not every night. Its usually 2 glasses of wine or a bottle of cider.

Thats too much and i need to stop, or cut back. So this is day 3 with no alcohol. Last night i really fancied a drink but i didnt have one, tonight ive not wanted any.

Im on ADs so i know its not a good mix.

I just wondered really how i compare to others?

I sometimes have a glass of wine. A bottle could last me a week. I don't see the need for it I'm quite happy with water or a tea.

ilovepixie · 29/10/2020 00:15

I rarely drink in the house now. Only drink if we're going out. Last drink was beginning of September. But when I do go out drinking I can put away a fair bit!

dayslikethese1 · 29/10/2020 00:25

I drink too much I know, pretty much every day. I have always enjoyed a drink but this year the level is too high I think. I'm trying not to have spirits in the house cos vodka goes down too easy. It's something I'm working on.

LadyCatStark · 29/10/2020 00:29

I doubt I drink even once a month. It’s just not something I think to do. I’m drinking less in lockdown as I’m not drinking to be social.

VestaTilley · 29/10/2020 09:43

Stopped drinking in pregnancy, was too tired to face drinking after giving birth. Now my tolerance is so low if I have even a glass of two of wine I “taste” it the following morning.

I generally have one sherry on Sunday, and maybe a glass of wine (small, think an old fashioned style wine glass) on Friday. If we were meeting family for lunch I might have a small G&T before hand, but that’s not often.

At Christmas I might have a mug of mulled wine one night, a couple of Bailey’s on another, a glass of champagne on Christmas Day, but basically no more than 2.5 units per day (and that’s just from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day or so).

I normally don’t drink mid week.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 29/10/2020 09:56

Monday - Thursday - nothing
Friday, Saturday and Sunday night - Half a bottle of wine...maybe 2/3 if DH having beer as well

I find it easier to impose this 'no midweek drinking' as it's simple to habitualise.

I like wine very much though.

Meruem · 29/10/2020 10:03

I’m on about 4-5 bottles of wine a week. I try and have a couple of nights with no alcohol but can easily drink a bottle over the course of an evening. Never get hangovers or any ill effects, which is actually worrying. My problem is I spend every evening alone and it’s so easy to reach for the wine for something to do. I can start the day thinking I won’t drink tonight but then it gets to say 7pm and I think sod it and pour a glass. I don’t really know how to get out of it.

I tried reading “the naked mind” which is often recommended on here but I couldn’t relate at all. The woman who wrote it has a partner, wide circle of friends, an active life. I have none of those things!

Ijumpedtheshark · 29/10/2020 10:07

I was drinking at least a bottle of wine a night. It was too much and was destroying my life so I’ve stopped drinking completely (I can’t do moderation). Haven’t had an alcoholic drink in over a year.

MaMaD1990 · 29/10/2020 10:15

When DD was a few months old I started having a glass or 2 a night (not bf BTW!) to relax. I took note and stopped and now I very rarely drink. Only really on special occasions or if a particularly good game of rugby is playing

pilates · 29/10/2020 10:18

Sometimes a bottle of wine will last a week, sometimes I can go weeks without anything, really depends. My consumption did increase over lockdown.

ginglebellsginglebells · 29/10/2020 10:19

I think the fact that you've noticed and are worrying shows that it's become a bit of a habit, @TheoriginalLEM

Now that you've noticed, try to cut down. Smaller glasses? Weekends only? Limit one glass per day instead?

I have a fruit cider maybe once a month, often longer. I don't really like alcohol much, and even just a can of cider makes me sleepy, so I prefer not to drink. I more than make up for it with cheese and chocolate, though... which is an issue all on its own!

Rosebel · 29/10/2020 10:20

Usually just drink on the weekend. Maybe 2 or 3 vodka and cokes. It doesn't worry me.
My husband began drinking quite a lot over lockdown but is back at work now so has cut down again

KitKat1985 · 29/10/2020 10:21

I used to drink a glass of wine 3-4 nights a week. Since lockdown started it's a glass every night. In fact I can't remember the last evening I didn't have a drink. It is only ever 1 drink though (usually a medium sized glass of wine). So not great, but not horrendous.

GrapevineFires · 29/10/2020 10:22

At the moment I am drinking far too much and I think it's becoming a serious problem. It's very much habitual - I'll pour a glass of something as I'm logging off and then I just keep topping up the same drink. I can also drink an entire bottle of wine nowadays. I remember this time last year just over half a bottle would be too much.

I'm put a pair of exercise trousers today that usually fall down if I try to work out in them. They now fit. I know it's alcohol weight as I'm not really a snacker (though laziness due to feet up/ have a drink has meant I'm ordering more takeaways).

I've decided I'm going alcohol free in November to reset some of the damage and try and get out of the bad habits. Usually I have a two hour window that I start drinking - if I get through that I'm quite happy remaining on tea or water all night - so I just need to find a way to distract myself in that time frame.

MysweetAudrina · 29/10/2020 10:24

I've drank twice since lockdown. Both times I drank a bottle of Prosecco to myself and would have probably polished off a second one if I'd had one in the house. Dh doesn't drink so it's not really fun being pissed on my own. I also do a 7am yoga class every morning and it's no fun doing it hungover. I would describe myself as a binge drinker. I don't drink for months and then I go all out and would have cocktails, Prosecco and shots on a work night out. I am definitely more of a social drinker but actually prefer the taste of a cold Coke Zero which I am now trying to limit to weekends only as I had a 2 can a day habit. Gave it up completely for 5 weeks and now just keeping it to weekends.

chickenyhead · 29/10/2020 10:25

Since I developed rheumatoid arthritis I drink about twice a year as it aggravates it.

This is not a choice, I would like to drink more tbh as I like myself more with a drink.

Lilybetsey · 29/10/2020 10:27

5 years ago I drank quite a bit. And it was increasing. And I emotionally depended on it. Now I don’t drink at all, and haven’t for >4.5 years. I know which I prefer, the biggest advantage is no longer worrying about alcohol, ever ...

EugenesAxe · 29/10/2020 10:28

Hardly anything as I'm on a diet. About 120mls wine 1-2 times a week? I will theoretically binge drink though if I end up going out... maybe two glasses of wine?!

If you're drinking half a bottle a night you will be having enough to endanger your liver after a while. 14 units per week recommended for women. Of course I drank tons over that when at university so I hope eventual abatement does help your body recover.

devildeepbluesea · 29/10/2020 10:29

I can easily do a bottle of wine and a couple of beers in one night (I did last night). Never feel rough - I never have, I'm very lucky in that my hangovers are very few and far between.

If I drink I will have more than a couple, but I only drink twice a week. It was more over the past 6 months (and we're back in lockdown here in Wales) but I'm sticking to twice a week now.

I'm not overly worried. I know it's too much but I'm fit, healthy and, moreover, I live alone and frankly that becomes boring!

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 29/10/2020 10:31

I am fine without a drink at the week but at the weekend I really like nice food and booze. All my family get togethers tend to involve lots of food and booze. I'll have a couple of double / triple g and ts before dinner and maybe 3 cocktails after. Easily my weekly units in one night. And then probably similar mayve a bit less the other night. I don't drink enough to get hangovers but I do drink enough to get rubbish sleep and feel knackered the next day and also I am always starving the day after drinking and I've slowly been putting on weight that I lost at the beginning of the year which is really upsetting me. I spend the few days after drinking regretting the extra kilo I've put on!

MrsDeltaB · 29/10/2020 10:34

I have no pride or brag in this believe me.

2 and a half bottles. A night. Every night.

I started feeling unwell in early lockdown, put it down to the stress, sleep schedule going to pot etc. Have myself a myriad of excuses.

Finally went to the GP and oh shock horror my liver is showing signs of struggling. My B12 and folic acid levels are on the floor.

It's been the wake up call both DH and I need. However I've been told categorically not to stop immediately as that can cause even more damage. Gradual reduction so now on 2 bottles of low alc.

Be kind to yourself but look at the steps to make the change XX

Camomila · 29/10/2020 10:36

Maybe once or twice a month? Either share a cider with DH in the evening or I have a glass of red wine if I make something nice at the weekend.

As my evening relaxing thing I usually have a cup of tea and some chocolate.

Alfiemoon1 · 29/10/2020 10:38

To much to often since working from home it’s not a problem as I have realised it so have made a conscious effort to cut down and now only drink twice a week when dh is off and making a bottle of wine last 2 nights instead of one

doctorhamster · 29/10/2020 10:40

I reached a point in lockdown where I was drinking 3 or 4 bottles of wine a week, plus a couple of gin and tonics. I stopped at the end of august and haven't had a drink since. I missed it for the first couple of weeks but I don't even think about it now. I imagine I'll drink too much over Christmas and then stop again in the new year.

Trousersareoverrated · 29/10/2020 10:41

Drank a lot more in lockdown but I have a toddler so never really to excess but maybe a couple of large glasses of wine a couple of nights a week. Lockdown was so hard with me and DH looking after the kids and having full time working at home jobs so our waking hours were mostly tag teaming parenting. A wine or 2 felt like the only way to ‘escape’ the madness around me. Now I’m preggers so drinking nothing and could really do with a wine some nights (not complaining really though- we know how lucky we are)
