To ask what on Earth wales are doing?

I don’t live in Wales but I’ve heard that they’re having a “firebreak” and shops cannot sell non essential items.

AIBU to think that that is just a step too far and completely over the top? Ok fair enough, tell people to stay at home but surely if someone needs to go shopping for essentials they can buy non essentials whilst they’re in a specific shop.

I think the English media as usual is whipping up a storm out of nothing to try and quash any notion of independence, support for which has surged as of late. They do the same for Scotland, Sturgeon can’t fart without them curtain twitching! It’s belittling.

Whenismumhome · 27/10/2020 19:52
@Whenismumhome stop pretending you were lending support/showing sympathy.

Your thread title is quite clear To ask what on Earth wales are doing?

The insinuation is you think Wales and it's inhabitants notice the W rather than the insulting w are doing something stupid.

You can pretend all you like, but you were not posting in a friendly manner. You aren't fooling anyone!
Yeah, I meant the Welsh government. Not the citizens.

I'm on Wales, it's not a issue, just a few attention seekers stirring it up for the press. No supermarket books? Phoned the local shop, spoke to a person, order said book for delivery or post. Money into the local economy.
Chip shop still open, too wet to go out anyway. Much like last Autumn half-term & I'd rather have a FM who gives a monkeys.

snowspider · 27/10/2020 19:54

@Callcat

I don't super love it, but its fine. It's 2 weeks. I'm glad I'm here in Wales, and think Drakeford is excellent. I'd take one of him over 10 Boris'!
This, same here. If one of these two might save my life I know who I would pick
Whenismumhome · 27/10/2020 19:55

@JustCallMeGriffin you’re reading too much into this.

The fact I didn’t have a capital ‘W’ for Wales in my title is because my phone didn’t automatically do it for me and I didn’t realise until after I had posted.

Soooo. Not living in Wales you feel qualified to be so dismissive and critical of theWelsh government despite clearly not knowing what is actually happening. It’s not tough. It’s a couple of weeks where we all stay home as much as possible.

Petitmum · 27/10/2020 19:56

I'm in wales and I don't need you to feel sorry for me op! The vast majority of people in Wales support this short sharp firebreak. The idea is that we all stay at home as much as possible and only go out to buy food or go to work. The media has given far too much attention to the fact that supermarkets are only able to sell essential items!!
Worry about what is going on in England!!!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 27/10/2020 19:56

"House arrest"
How odd
Nobody arrested me when I left the house to grab a coffee or go for a walk in the park.
Did a good shop ....nope no AK47 trained on me
DH and I back in work next week and the DC's back in school
Did you call lockdown house arrest back in April or was it ok because BOJO told you to do itHmm

10questions · 27/10/2020 19:56

I’m in Wales and I think the media have blown all this up. I’m sure most of us will manage for two weeks. My area (outskirts of a city) was deserted today and there was hardly any traffic which was the whole idea.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 27/10/2020 19:57

Food not good
But to be fair Aldi is good Grin

tywysoges · 27/10/2020 19:58

There it goes - for anyone looking for books during the firebreak Smile

Whenismumhome · 27/10/2020 19:58

Why are people being so uptight here?

I literally only wanted to show support to the Welsh people because I thought the rules were bizarre.

Some may agree with the rules and that is fine, you are entitled to your opinion as am I entitled to mine.

Rather be in England then stuck under house arrest in wales to be honest

We're not under house arrest Confused Shops and pubs are closed for a bit, but compared to the chaos in England that's nothing. Smile

secretllama · 27/10/2020 19:59

Jesus Christ I think people are being sensitive to the OP's question! Touched a nerve 🤣

TrufflyPig · 27/10/2020 20:00

Read the room OP. Your support went down like a lead balloon, people explained why.

IndiaMay · 27/10/2020 20:00

There is no chaos in England thanks. No need to be patronising.. .

100%! My intentions were to be supportive and sympathise with Wales but I never expected to be called patronising!

Seems that being nice will get you nowhere, may as well be nasty from now on!

How many people actually believe it's 'just' 2 weeks though ? Wasn't it 'just' 3 weeks back in March ?

Whenismumhome · 27/10/2020 20:04

People can see it as they want. I’m entitled to my opinion.

I only said that I thought closing off non essential sections in shops was OTT. I was showing support to Wales.

OP posts:
TrufflyPig · 27/10/2020 20:04

It might be longer, I’m ok with it. I work in a hospital, often on the COVID ward, I’ll lock myself in a cupboard if that’s what it takes to not get it or spread it!

starfro · 27/10/2020 20:05

The poor Welsh people have to deal with their lives being ruined all for a nationalist political stunt.

Lockdown won't achieve anything. It might reduce numbers a little if they're lucky, but really needs to last until next summer if it's going to have a real effect.

TrufflyPig · 27/10/2020 20:06

The poor Welsh people have to deal with their lives being ruined all for a nationalist political stunt.

Now this is patronising!

Lazypuppy · 27/10/2020 20:08

I'm very glad i live in england and not Wales right now!

The only winner is Amazon. All other shops who have had to shut can still sell stuff online, like they did in lockdown.

Crazzzycat · 27/10/2020 20:08

Oh dear, you are getting quite a harsh response here OP. As others have pointed out, it’s the title that comes over as a bit patronising. As if we’ve all lost our minds in Wales.

You’re obviously not aware that there have been quite a few threads now full of people who don’t live in Wales being outraged by what is going on in Wales. I’m not saying you don’t have the right to an opinion unless you live here, but I think it’s the number of threads on the issue, combined with quite skewed reporting in the media, that’s making us feel a bit sensitive here in Wales.

I can only speak for myself, but I’m quite happy to have a government that is not afraid to take action when needed 🙂

LeimarHELL · 27/10/2020 20:08

We're all okay in my bit of Wales, we're just getting on with living our lives.
