I am very organised but also very poor Grin and I have a dilemma...

We have had a completely shit six months employment/finances wise (like lots of us I know) topped off by last week - a succession of horrifically timed events like self isolation, a broken washing machine and a bank fuck up. Etc. It goes on and on.

Because I am poor yet organised I have been (thank god) getting a little amount of stuff organised each week for Christmas. We've already gone through the money I've put away. I am eyeing up my stocking drawer (which is just teeny things really, like a shower gel each for the DC, extra long charger cables, that sort of stuff). BUT I have two scratchcards in there, one for DH's and one for DS's (over 18) stockings.

WIBU to do the scratchcards in case they are winning ones? Even £10 would help at the moment, to be honest!

PS I have already gone through the time honoured MN recommendations of checking loyalty cards, eBaying everything not nailed down, I am looking for work, DH has a job 4.45 - 7am and another 8am - 4.30pm. I can't take in ironing. There is nothing down the back of the sofa. We have cut all our bills down as low as possible. We have literally done everything we can already, so I don't need suggestions just scratchcard advice Smile

PPS this is NOT a fucking begging thread - it's meant to be a bit lighthearted in that laugh or you'll cry way, so please don't anyone be a dick Grin I don't have twins and there is money on my electric meter Wink

Yes I second that. Loved reading this really wished you could have won but you have made us laugh and for a minute or two we were all millionaires in our headsGrin

Gunpowder · 28/10/2020 20:18

Cracker of a thread.

ApplePlumPie · 28/10/2020 20:23

OP you’ve really cheered me up as well! I’ve had a shit year with money, and sometimes I get a bit blooming wrapped up in feeling sorry for myself to be honest - I’m going to take a few leaves out of your book and get more positive!

The big clear out for eBaying things starts after half term ! Smile

I may have to move a mirror too!

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 28/10/2020 20:25

It's been great hasn't it Smile Pixie you are very kind and I have replied to say thank you but I wouldn't take anyone's money (unless you were the National Lottery!) If anyone wants to feel like spreading a similar sort of cheer though, I usually try and give some chocolate (and some nut/gluten free) advent calendars to my local food bank around now, which might be a nice idea to pass on?

I wont be allowing him to get them again. The euromillions ticket he got me had nothing on it either. Raging 🤣

SummerHouse · 28/10/2020 20:35

scratch love you!

I will food bank some stuff and so the kindness and positivity you have brought us will spread on.

Tempted to throw a scratch card in there but that's probably frowned upon / inappropriate. Halloween Blush

MadeForThis · 28/10/2020 20:52

😍

Ddot · 28/10/2020 21:11

Go get some elderberry and some rosehips from woods, make some yummy jams and syrups be ready for xmas gifts. That's what I do, goes down a treat. Hope things improve sweetie x

Mamanyt · 29/10/2020 00:28

Scratch them. The recipients don't know they are there, and won't be disappointed.

Ddot · 29/10/2020 04:14

Lottery hadn't been claimed it said on news, do you have a ticket for this week. Well I did! I ripped the house apart, found it in a drawer. I held that ticket in my hand and dreamed of a better life. Two days later I still hadn't checked those numbers, I just didn't want to give up the fantasy. Finally I googled,,,,,,, Bollocks

Catscatsandmorecats · 29/10/2020 07:40

OP, you have cheered me up immensely with this thread in a stressful time. Thank you and here's to things looking up, you and your family sound wonderful Smile

FromTheAllotment · 29/10/2020 08:13

Bit late to this but just replying to compliment you OP on some excellent threats Grin “I’ll promise to update you and then won’t” is like MN’s nuclear option, well played 😂😂

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 29/10/2020 13:13

Well if another person doesn't RTFT and helpfully posts telling me to do it (looking at you mamanyt)** I shall definitely buy another card and post the first two lines and never come back...just a friendly warningWink

On another note (but related, bear with me) has anyone bought glasses recently? I had to try frames out wearing a face mask, which in addition to not actually being able to see because I didn't have my actual glasses on Hmmmade it very difficult. I selected a pair of lovely stylish retro 1950s intellectual librarian (this is a look I love and aspire to for myself) tortoiseshell cats eye glasses which I believed made me look equally intellectual and stylish. (Another) DD helpfully took a photo of me wearing them so I could see what they looked like on. Foolishly I only looked at the photo without my glasses on and then looked at it again this morning properly.

Well fuck me. Talk about an expectation versus reality scenario - just like scratchcards which reminded me of this thread which is why I'm sharing this with you all. Also wearing a face mask and not being able to see made it a kind of roulette/lottery scenario.

So (expectation) imagine a very beautiful stylish Wink woman with 1950s cats eye intellectual style glasses. Hold that picture in your mind...while I post what I actually look like in reality.....

The big reveals just keep on revealing on this thread. I have you in my mind op. Hope that didn't sound too weird...

ApplePlumPie · 29/10/2020 13:36

ToScratchOrNotToScratch

That made me chuckle! Please can you keep updating this thread you are really cheering me up !

Ddot · 29/10/2020 14:12

Yes I thought I'd try those, get that funky retro look, well what reflected back at me, wasnt what I expected (possums) haha let you work that one out

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 29/10/2020 14:34

Oh Ddot I feel your pain (and get your reference!) I have very bright hair and tried on a coloured pair of frames and felt like saying Hi Di Hi whilst doing jazz hands. DD didn't get the reference of course. (I actually think Su Pollard looks lovely and is a very good example of dressing to suit yourself notched patriarchy

OP posts:
ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 29/10/2020 14:35

Notched patriarchy? I meant to say not the patriarchy but perhaps I have coined a new feminist term.

Ddot · 29/10/2020 15:20

I normally Opt for tortoise shell frames but last time got dark reddish brown ones, I'm due a new pair. Its a difficult practice for me because I'm a pin head, so tend to be too wide and I've got rather big hair, that's putting it mildly. Plus I'm getting on a bit now but in my head I'm still a wild funky drop dead gorgeous sensation. Reality hits when I'm under those stark lights at the optitions. Ahh well never mind 😭

Mamanyt · 29/10/2020 15:40

My own glasses are a sort of modified retro 60s. I try not to think much about it, since I'm going to look like warmed-over cat barf, regardless of what style I get.

Ddot · 29/10/2020 16:19

Now now bet your gorgeous just like me

Mamanyt · 30/10/2020 02:09

@Ddot, thank you! Nah. I'm probably best described as "ordinarily pleasant-looking. I don't scare small children, and animals like me. And that's perfectly find with me!

Ddot · 30/10/2020 06:16

I would put myself in the bracket of ok for my age. Animals like me too
