I am very organised but also very poor Grin and I have a dilemma...

We have had a completely shit six months employment/finances wise (like lots of us I know) topped off by last week - a succession of horrifically timed events like self isolation, a broken washing machine and a bank fuck up. Etc. It goes on and on.

Because I am poor yet organised I have been (thank god) getting a little amount of stuff organised each week for Christmas. We've already gone through the money I've put away. I am eyeing up my stocking drawer (which is just teeny things really, like a shower gel each for the DC, extra long charger cables, that sort of stuff). BUT I have two scratchcards in there, one for DH's and one for DS's (over 18) stockings.

WIBU to do the scratchcards in case they are winning ones? Even £10 would help at the moment, to be honest!

PS I have already gone through the time honoured MN recommendations of checking loyalty cards, eBaying everything not nailed down, I am looking for work, DH has a job 4.45 - 7am and another 8am - 4.30pm. I can't take in ironing. There is nothing down the back of the sofa. We have cut all our bills down as low as possible. We have literally done everything we can already, so I don't need suggestions just scratchcard advice Smile

PPS this is NOT a fucking begging thread - it's meant to be a bit lighthearted in that laugh or you'll cry way, so please don't anyone be a dick Grin I don't have twins and there is money on my electric meter Wink

Completely missing the point but buy your glasses online. Glasses direct are ace and so cheap. I got 2 pairs for £30 and just uploaded my prescription

I’ll never go to an optician for glasses again

Lurleene · 27/10/2020 20:23

Lovely thread OP. Years ago when DD was small I was absolutely skint and couldnt afford to pay £11 for a professional photo that she had had taken at playgroup.

I bought a sceatchcard on a whim, and won £11! Such a random amount and exactly what I needed, couldn't believe it. I love that photo too.

purpleboy · 27/10/2020 21:01

@Mytimetokillandmaim how did you get on?

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 21:07

Shite. These are crap cards.

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 21:08

I still have another to scratch. But I dont feel good about it

Goldencurtain · 27/10/2020 22:59

You're funny, I like you.

safariboot · 27/10/2020 23:22

Well, a quid was better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

If you want to gamble, national lottery is piss poor odds though, because half of it goes straight to charity. If on the other hand you want to give to charity (and to random people who win), you can do worse than lotto tickets or scratchcards.

HotToCold · 27/10/2020 23:27

This has just reminded me

Went away first week in March, on way home got some scratch cards, won £30 left in car on top of radio...
Lockdown happened. Shielding

Car due MOT last week, car went in.
Picked up. All ok

Went to the drs today and i just remembered i put a mask on top of the radio and the scratch cards werent there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dontstepinthecowpat · 27/10/2020 23:45

You write really well, have you thought about making a blog Wink

Thanks for this, I was totally over MN and the judge/moaning frothing but this has made my day.

Sorry things are a bit shit but your home sounds very happy.

@ToScratchOrNotToScratch
Loved this thread. Just read every post, so funny.
I'm coming back later for Scratchcard 2 the sequel.

Re Willy Wonka I think he did bump the other kids off as only Charlie surfaced at the end of the tour Shock.

Mytimetokillandmaim · 28/10/2020 00:31

Just checked my euromillions ticket and
apparently somebody in the UK won 87,000. Get checking if you haven't already Halloween Grin

Mytimetokillandmaim · 28/10/2020 00:33

Sorry 79,000,000 🤣🤣 how the fuck did I get that so wrong.

holb54 · 28/10/2020 00:46

Brilliant thread OP, lighthearted and genuinely funny 💜

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 28/10/2020 04:28

Well you're all lovely and kind and I think well at least I can't be as horrible as Jesus who believed the Chocolate Factory children were killed WinkI cant find my book but Wikipedia (that reliable source of completely accurate info) states "They ride the Great Glass Elevator to Charlie's house; the other four children each go home with a lifetime supply of chocolate, as well as permanent disfigurements from their misbehavior"

So that's nice! Permanent disfigurements!!

Funnily enough my (adult Grin) DD and I re-watched the film the other day and we agreed the boat scene was still absolutely terrifying - seriously, wtf was that all about? There was a huge big cockroach as well as the evil music! Hmm

@Mytimetokillandmaim Did you do the second card? I have looked and looked at your card and can't see how it works! Two matching symbols and one has to be from the diamond bit?

I am not being kept awake by my concerns about Charlie and the chocolate factory children Grin but the after effects of shuffling slightly more quickly running for the bus earlier. Also trying to work out why my DD has randomly texted me a picture of Chunk from the Goonies with no explanation Confused (there's another brilliant film!)

I will have to get her to go and get me a scratchcard later as penance for confusing me at 4am (this is a different DD to the Ab Fab daughter Grin)

MarieFromStTropez · 28/10/2020 04:31

I don't think you should scratch them. Just imagine they could be worth millions and let your imagination take you out of poverty for a while. Once you've scratched them, that's it. No more wondering.

GabsAlot · 28/10/2020 09:42

i didnt win-good luck today op

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/10/2020 12:33

Permanent disfigurements, hmm. OK, I can live with that outcome! Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/10/2020 12:38

Yes the boat scene was awful - wasn't there a clip of a chicken getting its head chopped off too?

Found it - there is! So permanent disfigurement and combat PTSD, I shouldn't wonder.

ShebaShimmyShake · 28/10/2020 13:25

The Salts weren't disfigured, they just got very dirty. Nothing a wash and change of clothes wouldn't cure.

There's something wrong about a guy who runs a chocolate factory gunning for a kid who eats too much chocolate. I stand with Augustus Gloop.

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 28/10/2020 15:16

Marie RTFT Wink

That video is so creepy "is it raining is it snowing" No scratchcards yet, Ab Fab DD has kindly offered to go later for me Smile

(Other DD was apparently saying hello to me as in "hey you guys" with the Goonies Chunk photo Confused The other day she randomly texted me out of nowhere "IT PUTS THE LOTION IN THE BASKET OR IT GETS THE HOSE AGAIN". Grin)

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 28/10/2020 15:20

I have actually been looking forward all morning to getting my card and updating the thread BlushSmile

I also sold a dress on eBay for £25 which I am very pleased about. The mirror is clearly a top MN tip Thanks

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 28/10/2020 17:29

Right you lot, come and live vicariously through my scratching!!

Ab Fab DD got the scratchcard see what happens when you delegate stuff

After taking my glasses off to look closely at it Grin it appears you scratch the winning symbol and then the other stars and one has to match the winning symbol...

Would AIBU to use these scratchcards or should I save them...

Fwaltz · 28/10/2020 17:55

Don’t scratch them, just take them to the shop and ask the assistant to scan them to see if they’re winners. If yes, cash in. If not, take them home and gift them anyway 😂
