Would AIBU to use these scratchcards or should I save them...

I am very organised but also very poor Grin and I have a dilemma...

We have had a completely shit six months employment/finances wise (like lots of us I know) topped off by last week - a succession of horrifically timed events like self isolation, a broken washing machine and a bank fuck up. Etc. It goes on and on.

Because I am poor yet organised I have been (thank god) getting a little amount of stuff organised each week for Christmas. We've already gone through the money I've put away. I am eyeing up my stocking drawer (which is just teeny things really, like a shower gel each for the DC, extra long charger cables, that sort of stuff). BUT I have two scratchcards in there, one for DH's and one for DS's (over 18) stockings.

WIBU to do the scratchcards in case they are winning ones? Even £10 would help at the moment, to be honest!

PS I have already gone through the time honoured MN recommendations of checking loyalty cards, eBaying everything not nailed down, I am looking for work, DH has a job 4.45 - 7am and another 8am - 4.30pm. I can't take in ironing. There is nothing down the back of the sofa. We have cut all our bills down as low as possible. We have literally done everything we can already, so I don't need suggestions just scratchcard advice Smile

PPS this is NOT a fucking begging thread - it's meant to be a bit lighthearted in that laugh or you'll cry way, so please don't anyone be a dick Grin I don't have twins and there is money on my electric meter Wink

If you scratch them now, you won’t win anything BUT if you wait until Christmas, they will be winning tickets..... sods law.....

Rudolphian · 27/10/2020 08:57

Personally I would leave.
It's very highly likely they aren't worth anything at all. And by leaving them you have one less present to buy.

ApplePlumPie · 27/10/2020 08:57

Oh OP I’m in a very similar boat, and I hereby give you permission to go and go and do them!

And good luck !

MacbookHo · 27/10/2020 08:59

Do it!!!

Cauterize · 27/10/2020 09:01

Yes I would do this! Good luck!

Cauterize · 27/10/2020 09:02

I should also add that I've been known to unwrap and eat chocolate gifts that I have bought for people so it was always going to be a yes from me!

slipperywhensparticus · 27/10/2020 09:02

Have you checked all your coat pockets? I found a fiver looking for a tissue last week 🙈

ScarlettDarling · 27/10/2020 09:05

Go and scratch them!!!!!!!!!

MacbookHo · 27/10/2020 09:06

Before I scratched them, I’d spruce up the Feng Shui in my house though. I totally believe in all that crap. Last year I hung a mirror up in a previously neglected corner of the sitting room and suddenly got a £10k freelance project out of NOWHERE. 😮

If there’s a chance it works, do it.

Ulpo · 27/10/2020 09:14

Do it. I agree that you are doing it for the good of others.

No one wants to be disappointed on Christmas Day. Also there was a thread on here a few months ago where one person won and didn't share it with the other siblings who lost on their scratchies. Caused a family war Shock

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 09:16

A mirror you say? Can I just move an existing one and hang it on a wall?

Well I think as you've all been so kind as to answer me I shall obey the suggestion of Live Updates (does anyone remember that excellent ear hoovering one?) so here we go. Get comfortable.

If I was not the OP I would find a live action thread like this very exciting and enjoyable so I will try and spread the love...

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 09:17

I'm seriously going to move the mirror before I do this though. I'll do anything that will increase my chances. I shall go and stroke the cat too.

Newfornow · 27/10/2020 09:18

Just use them now. The bother it will cause at Christmas if someone wins big and wants to piss the money away when you actually need it.

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 09:20

The mirror is moved (it was very dusty Blush)

You can move an existing mirror. Make sure you hang it in a clear, clean corner of the room facing another relatively clean, clear area as any clutter (which is unlucky) will be reflected and effectively doubled by the mirror.

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 09:21

Any ideas for luck gratefully received. I have dusted my mirror and stroked a black cat.

That sounds like a euphemism doesn't it.

MacbookHo · 27/10/2020 09:21

OMG GOOD LUCK!!!

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 09:22

Oh fuck MacBook. Clean and uncluttered? Ummm. Hang on. Shit.

cataline · 27/10/2020 09:23

I think the top one is looking like a winner

MacbookHo · 27/10/2020 09:24

Shite — sorry everyone for the accidental delay!

Just basically clean. Not surgically perfect. As long as it’s not reflecting a toilet or a bin, you’re fine.

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/10/2020 09:25

Just move any clutter or if sight of the mirror. Now is not the time for house work. We're waiting...
🍀🤞

Tinty · 27/10/2020 09:25

Even if you don’t win on the scratch cards you will have a slightly tidier home and a dusted mirror. Grin

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 09:26

I seriously don't have an area that is uncluttered Blush I have moved it to opposite the shelf where I store my handmade things, which I make lovingly for other people Grin as that seems like a good lucky place.

I'm on my first day off after working the last eight, and have a lengthy to do list.

But instead I am on here waiting with breath that is baited.

Fluffybutter · 27/10/2020 09:27

On tenterhooks here ...🍀
