I am very organised but also very poor Grin and I have a dilemma...

We have had a completely shit six months employment/finances wise (like lots of us I know) topped off by last week - a succession of horrifically timed events like self isolation, a broken washing machine and a bank fuck up. Etc. It goes on and on.

Because I am poor yet organised I have been (thank god) getting a little amount of stuff organised each week for Christmas. We've already gone through the money I've put away. I am eyeing up my stocking drawer (which is just teeny things really, like a shower gel each for the DC, extra long charger cables, that sort of stuff). BUT I have two scratchcards in there, one for DH's and one for DS's (over 18) stockings.

WIBU to do the scratchcards in case they are winning ones? Even £10 would help at the moment, to be honest!

PS I have already gone through the time honoured MN recommendations of checking loyalty cards, eBaying everything not nailed down, I am looking for work, DH has a job 4.45 - 7am and another 8am - 4.30pm. I can't take in ironing. There is nothing down the back of the sofa. We have cut all our bills down as low as possible. We have literally done everything we can already, so I don't need suggestions just scratchcard advice Smile

PPS this is NOT a fucking begging thread - it's meant to be a bit lighthearted in that laugh or you'll cry way, so please don't anyone be a dick Grin I don't have twins and there is money on my electric meter Wink

Frankly it is a hideous mirror which my mother brought here to get it out of her house (my father bought it ...). But Himself likes it and says it’s ‘an heirloom’ so it stays. 🙄🙄🙄

EarringsandLipstick · 27/10/2020 12:59

This has been a brilliant thread.

OP you're fantastic 🖐🖐🖐🖐

ApolloandDaphne · 27/10/2020 13:04

I am looking forward to scratch card number 3.

My DM always buys lottery tickets for us all at Christmas. The rule is that any winnings have to be shared between everyone there. It has been very simple so far as no-one has ever won a penny!

ShirleyPhallus · 27/10/2020 13:09

I’ve never done premium bonds but this app reveal thing sounds quite exciting, I might look into it (hopefully Linda approves)

Grin seems like we need some house rules, minuted and approved by Linda

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 13:10

I have to say I have hugely enjoyed this thread myself Smile

I have been here donkey years but MN seemed to have gone a bit...errrr...full on froth in recent times (so many shouty face mask threads!) and I felt too fragile for it, so I've not posted properly for ages but recently I needed advice on yet another problem which was a DC health one and everyone was so lovely. I'm glad I started this one.

I shall update when I get my greedy profligate little mitts on another scratchcard!

Thanks for the fun OP and I hope you win something else on the 3rd scratch card. I'm looking forward to the thread and for what its worth I think you're right to buy another with the £1.
You could win something bigger next time!
I don't often play but have a rule that I reinvest winnings up to £5 on new cards. More than that I cash in. It's fun if you get a few wins in a row.
And we all need things to brighten our days these days. I'm glad your DH has some overtime and fingers crossed it's a sign of good changes for your family.

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 13:11

Hopefully my scratch card gets here soon. I'm literally itching for a scratch.

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 13:12

I've just texted DH to ask if the children died in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to say I am going to redouble my EBay efforts and hopefully buy the DC £25 each of premium bonds for Christmas (that's the minimum purchase amount now) as I think it will be a great present.

PS he said the children didn't die, they just learnt a valuable lesson Grin

Next time you buy a scratch card, check to see which ones haven't had the top prizes won. They still dish them out even if they have.

HostessTrolley · 27/10/2020 13:28

I’ve only got black dogs - if I meow while I stroke them would that be ok? Times are hard etc etc

ExCwmbranDweller · 27/10/2020 13:31

OP you might not have a tonne of money at the moment but you have a great sense of humour and obviously amazing attitude to life which is so valuable. One of the most miserable people I know is loaded and she complains about everything it's totally wasted on her. Still I hope your next one has 100,000 with a 10x multiplier. I'll be back when I've adjusted some mirrors.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/10/2020 13:50

@ToScratchOrNotToScratch a valuable final lesson. Grin Roald Dahl would have wanted it that way gawd rest him.

lanthanum · 27/10/2020 13:53

If one's a winner, you can replace them before Christmas. If neither is a winner, they were worthless Christmas presents anyway!

Fab thread 😂

Menofsteel · 27/10/2020 17:20

I have a mirror with shutters (misses the point of the thread)

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 17:26

Oh dear I didn't have time to get another scratchcard when I was out as it would have made me miss the bus home, I just made it as it was!

Sorry I shall get one tomorrow, I promise Smile

PS the children in Charlie and the Choc Factory did not die, stop saying it Jesus! (that's not a sentence you often say!)

OP posts:
SummerHouse · 27/10/2020 17:31

"They were ok."

And to clarify: "They WALKED out the factory."

That's what my 10 yr old says anyway.

SummerHouse · 27/10/2020 17:32

You caught the bus scratch it's a sign!

What number was the bus?

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 17:48

Can't possibly tell you that summer it's far too outing (I don't want you all trying to find me when I win £100,000 tomorrow Wink)

In other depressing news, I asked my (over 18!) DD if she could get me one on the way home from work - but she "doesn't approve" of scratchcards and did a Hmm at me

OP posts:
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/10/2020 19:43

Right. I'm off to get the book...

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/10/2020 19:49

...Well I still think they died. Grin

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 19:54
