I am very organised but also very poor Grin and I have a dilemma...

We have had a completely shit six months employment/finances wise (like lots of us I know) topped off by last week - a succession of horrifically timed events like self isolation, a broken washing machine and a bank fuck up. Etc. It goes on and on.

Because I am poor yet organised I have been (thank god) getting a little amount of stuff organised each week for Christmas. We've already gone through the money I've put away. I am eyeing up my stocking drawer (which is just teeny things really, like a shower gel each for the DC, extra long charger cables, that sort of stuff). BUT I have two scratchcards in there, one for DH's and one for DS's (over 18) stockings.

WIBU to do the scratchcards in case they are winning ones? Even £10 would help at the moment, to be honest!

PS I have already gone through the time honoured MN recommendations of checking loyalty cards, eBaying everything not nailed down, I am looking for work, DH has a job 4.45 - 7am and another 8am - 4.30pm. I can't take in ironing. There is nothing down the back of the sofa. We have cut all our bills down as low as possible. We have literally done everything we can already, so I don't need suggestions just scratchcard advice Smile

PPS this is NOT a fucking begging thread - it's meant to be a bit lighthearted in that laugh or you'll cry way, so please don't anyone be a dick Grin I don't have twins and there is money on my electric meter Wink

Piss on someone else's chips Linda.

Buy something nice with it op. If that's another scratch card....

FallonCarringtonWannabe · 27/10/2020 11:18

@ToScratchOrNotToScratch

This is actually the most gambling fun I have had since we played strip poker with a bottle of tequila in 1997.

@Redwolf1

I love premium bonds, I get such a thrill. O the 1st of the month I look through the "high value winners" bit to try and guess whether I've won big before finding out properly on the 2nd. I havent yet 😂 I think I've only seen winners from my county 6 times in the year I've had PB
I had a look at high value winners the other month. The vast majority had £40k+
Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 11:24

Piss on someone else's chips Linda 🤣🤣🤣

Yes linda..this thread is for fun..no seriousness allowed.Grin OP said in her first post that this was lighthearted!

Sparklfairy · 27/10/2020 11:31

@ByebyeOcado

A woman who worked in the local post office was caught stealing money to buy scratch cards (she would ring up people’s purchases of cards, toys, etc as lottery scratch cards ) over 2 years she bought an estimated £15,000. Her total winnings? £894. I never buy them nowadays.
Whaaaaa Shock

My friend is sad did a facebook live where he bought £100 worth of scratchcards and scratched them all to see if he would win/lose/break even. I believe he won £85.

Lockdown does strange things to people Grin

Wynston · 27/10/2020 11:32

So just to be clear you will be buying another card yes??!!!

myhobbyisouting · 27/10/2020 11:36

Buy an advent calendar. We can guess what's behind the doors.

10p a guess, all proceeds to the winner. Linda, you're not allowed to play Grin

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 11:48

Well I will be buying another scratch card - sorry Linda but it is one pound and if it makes you happier, I will spend a pound less on my grocery shop next week to balance it out! It's worth every penny to provide me (and MNers, so as someone pointed out it's altruistic Smile) with a couple of hours distraction and happy thoughts instead of constant worry and fretting all the time.

And if anyone says this attitude is why you're in this mess believe me with all the shit that has happened here recently (and you would definitely think I was trolling if I listed it) a sunken cost of one pound is the least of our worries and god knows we need a few hours of distraction. It's an £1 investment in my health, and my mental health has an effect on my physical health (my epilepsy triggers include lack of sleep and stress/worry). In fact it could be the difference that saves the NHS the cost of an hospital visit and treatment. And the cost of a taxi to hospital (if no buses or not able to get to the bus stop or DH working away or it's not a 999 visit) is £12 each way. I have spent £70 on taxis in the last couple of months alone.

So I can adjust my budget to cover £1 and I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from...

When I buy it I will of course update the thread - and I expect you all to move mirrors and light candles and stroke black cats...

And if anyone suggests I ask a friendly neighbour to take me to hospital I will never come back to the thread, or I'll come back and photo the first two lines and never put the third one up Grin

Gasp! You know how to threaten, OP. Remind me never to get on your wrong side!

BarbaraofSeville · 27/10/2020 11:53

Consider my three black cats stroked for you OP.

Fingers crossed. Lets hope it was worth disturbing their daytime sleepy time.

namechangealerttt · 27/10/2020 11:58

I got to this too late, I was going to say don't scratch, because then you could dream about a Christmas miracle. Every now and then I like to buy a lotto ticket, but I hate to check the numbers, because to date, every time I have checked the numbers, the dream has ended.

This is like unboxing videos on youtube, are mumsnet algorithms going to keep sending scratch card threads to me to read?

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 12:00

I have no cats or animals in the home op...but I am willing to move and/or stoke anything you direct me to.🤣

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 12:01

Now,...are we all getting our cards and keeping them til later when we can all scratch together??? Or are we scratching as we go ???

user1493494961 · 27/10/2020 12:13

Thank you for a very entertaining thread, you sound a lovely person Op, fingers crossed for the third scratch card, you deserve a change of luck.

GabsAlot · 27/10/2020 12:23

enjoyed the thread op yu spend it how you like

youve jsut reminded me to to do euromillions tonight which i never win

Mytimetokillandmaim · 27/10/2020 12:25

GabsAlot good luck!! I'm getting a euromillions too...with my scratch card 🤣

ImaginaryCat · 27/10/2020 12:29

I would love to stroke my black cat for you but the sod is hiding in the loft where it's nice and warm, and she burrows into the insulation roll and disappears. I could stroke the corpse of the mouse she dispatched last night, trying not to get intestines on my fingers. Would that be lucky?

WithTheJonses · 27/10/2020 12:32

You're killing me op I'm too invested in this thread

COME. BACK.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/10/2020 12:34

STOP THREATENING US or I will open my Victorian safe (ooer missus) and not tell you what's inside. Grin

Anyway, this is now exactly like an 18-rated version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He kept on gambling, and look how that panned out! I mean OK, several children died horribly, but apart from that...

ToScratchOrNotToScratch · 27/10/2020 12:45

Wait, what? They didn't die in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory though did they?! I thought they were rescued by Oompa Loompas and just learned their lesson or something? I'm worried I've been deluding myself all this time now...

Well I'm sorry but a mouse intestines just isn't the same, make the effort to find the cat please...perhaps if you touch her trophy she will come and scratch your face off bring us luck Smile

I’ve enjoyed this thread. Congratulations / commiserations on your tiny win OP. I’ve never done premium bonds but this app reveal thing sounds quite exciting, I might look into it (hopefully Linda approves).

But I need to know more about this mirrors thing. I have a vintage bar mirror (one of those ones which advertise booze) on my sitting room wall opposite the window BUT it has shutters and we never open them. Is that enough to stop the happiness from being bounced out of my house, do you think? Presumably the shutters would just bounce it right back in again.

SuzieCarmichael · 27/10/2020 12:53

I mean the window has shutters. Not the mirror.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/10/2020 12:54

I was just visualising a mirror with shutters!

I really want linda to come back and give us all a talking to,after we scratch our cards.
