To ask which surname is more naice?

Dear vipers, I am going to ditch my husband's name and I have a claim to either Scott or Stone. I want to know which one of two sounds more glam, more posh.

Scott of course has a lot of associations, from Buccleuch down to Ronnie, Stone to me brings to mind Patsy, (not a bad thing).

Going through the separation roller coaster right now, and I desperately need cheering up. (NC for this, natch)
YABU - Wha hae!
YANBU - Rock and roll, baby!

yelyah22 · 26/10/2020 14:10

Stone is cooler - neither is particularly glam or (bleh) 'naice', though!

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/10/2020 14:11

I know someone with the surname Gauntlett. I've always loved it, images of duels and knights in shining armour etc. I#d pick something fabulous.

I also had a teacher with the surname Darling. A posh boy in our class loved saying "Oh Miss Daahling, could I perhaps ask a question?" cracked us up every time given that we were mostly council estate scum.

CorianderLord · 26/10/2020 14:12

Scone lol - meet in the middle

fuckfuckingcovid19 · 26/10/2020 14:18

It has got to be Scone

Zilla1 · 26/10/2020 14:21

Don't limit yourself to English, OP.
Ecosse Pierre.

Schotte Stein.

I think I've solved the pronunciation dilemma (should it rhyme with Scott or Stone).

It would have to be pronounced as in the Scottish Stone of Scone.

notalwaysalondoner · 26/10/2020 14:26

I think they’re both great names OP! Slight preference for Stone!

TheyreComingToGetYouBarbara · 26/10/2020 14:28

Depends on the first name, but generally speaking, I like Stone better. It sounds strong and is easier to remember, since there's an instant visual association.

bridgetreilly · 26/10/2020 14:28

They are both very ordinary, perfectly fine names that do not have any strong class markers. Pick the one you like.

alittleprivacy · 26/10/2020 14:29

Is there any chance you'd also change your first name to Barry?

HaggieMaggie · 26/10/2020 14:30

@MikeUniformMike

How about a compromise, and change it to Scone.

I like Scott, as I have a beautiful and elegant friend who is brilliant, funny and interesting, and that is her surname.
Stone is a great name though, so whichever fits best with your first name.
Eg Alice Scott/ Alice Stone - Stone is better
Deborah Scott/ Stone - Scott is better
Frances I think either
Helen - Scott is better
Nicky - either.

The “naice” words refers to a mn thread a few years back about a shopping list with “naice ham” which was meant to equate to finest type ham.

TrickyD · 26/10/2020 14:35

DH used to work with an A* Stone. She was a large lady and he always referred to her as A* Boulder.
Before the days of fat shaming being frowned upon.

SoupDragon · 26/10/2020 14:38

Scottington-Stone is going in my top 10

Or Stottington-Scone...?

LauraMipsum · 26/10/2020 14:40

If you want it to be naice, then surely you need to change it to Ham?

Of the two, I think Scott is slightly nicer. No idea why.

ButterflyBitch · 26/10/2020 14:40

I voted Scott but I quite like Scottstone pronounced as Flibberty suggested. So I’m gonna say do that.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 26/10/2020 14:41

One of these names is my married name so I’m very invested in the outcome 😁

Maireas · 26/10/2020 14:42

Sconey - Stott

lightyearsahead · 26/10/2020 14:43

I would go for somethin more exciting
Duval-Scott
Avery -Scott
Scott -Earl
Trevelyan

What fun, do you like your first name. How about Olivia Duval-Scott

shockthemonkey · 26/10/2020 14:43

Don't restrict yourself to names you feel you have a "claim" to - you can have any name you like.

Looking through the French journal officiel for name changes, there have been changes such as

Mme Merda (equivalent Mrs Shitt) ---> Mme Honoré

M Salopar (equivalent Mr Arsehoal) ---> M Salomé

So go get creative

Lily193 · 26/10/2020 14:44

Both extremely average and unmemorable. Ditch them both and choose something else unless you have a totally fabulous first name.

Blondiney · 26/10/2020 14:45

Stone.

MitziK · 26/10/2020 14:47

@kierenthecommunity

Stott, maybe? 🤔
Scoffington-Scone?
