Dear vipers, I am going to ditch my husband's name and I have a claim to either Scott or Stone. I want to know which one of two sounds more glam, more posh.

Scott of course has a lot of associations, from Buccleuch down to Ronnie, Stone to me brings to mind Patsy, (not a bad thing).

Going through the separation roller coaster right now, and I desperately need cheering up. (NC for this, natch)
YABU - Wha hae!
YANBU - Rock and roll, baby!

@OwlOne

I like Kate Scott because it sounds like Great Scott.

I think you should really enjoy making the right decision! If you're getting divorced you need the light relief Wine

Thanks, I really, really do Wine

Depends on your first name. If you are Anna or Amanda you could be A. Stone which would be cool. Expecially if you're having to toughen up due to seperation. Smile

SunshineCake · 26/10/2020 13:24

More glam, more posh ?

Bloody hell.

amusedbush · 26/10/2020 13:25

My mum's side of the family are Scotts so I should probably stay loyal to that but Stone is a cool surname.

Or there's an area of Glasgow called Scotstoun (Scott-stone) which would mix the two Grin

AdelaideK · 26/10/2020 13:26

I prefer the name Scott.

oakleaffy · 26/10/2020 13:27

''Naice''??

Wouldn't that be 'Hyacinth Bucket?'

Stone is better than 'Scott' but only because I knew an unpleasant 'Scott'.

stackemhigh · 26/10/2020 13:28

Go for Chase. Was just watching My So Called Life and the protagonist is called Angela Chase. Has a nice ring.

fabulousathome · 26/10/2020 13:28

You are going to have to say "Scott with two tees" many, many times if you choose that one.

BlowThisForEggAndSoldiers · 26/10/2020 13:28

@milleniumhandandprawn

Depends on the first name.

If -for example - you're called Kate, then "Kate Scott" sounds like

"Great scot!!!"

Which could either be good or bad I suppose - but I wouldn't want it.

However you do have a chance here for total reinvention... why stay with the obvious...

Sarah Scottington-Stone
Julia Stonely-Scott
Evelyn Stotscone
Jemina Scottney-Stoneford-Smyth

Now this, this is the sort of encouragement I was hoping for.

Scottington-Stone is going in my top 10 Grin

kierenthecommunity · 26/10/2020 13:29

Stott, maybe? 🤔

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/10/2020 13:30

@ancientgran

How about a compromise, and change it to Scone. Brilliant, I mean everyone loves a scone, how could it go wrong.
How could it go wrong? Half of us would say scon and the other half scone. It would be so confusing! Grin
LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 26/10/2020 13:32

@PicsInRed

Consuela Banana-Hammock
Always gets my vote.

Second goes to Scottstone

Third to Scone. Really want a scone now.

DowntonCrabby · 26/10/2020 13:34

If you want to sound posh change it to Fortescue-Smythe

MarmiteCrumpet25 · 26/10/2020 13:34

Scott

doublehalo · 26/10/2020 13:34

Or you could go really posh and be St.One

GroundAlmonds · 26/10/2020 13:35

@unmarkedbythat

Invent a new one and be the fabulous Ms Scottstone?
Scottstone actually has a ring to it.
diddl · 26/10/2020 13:36

@fabulousathome

You are going to have to say "Scott with two tees" many, many times if you choose that one.
I thought that that was the more usual spelling!
fabulousathome · 26/10/2020 13:39

I always tell people how to spell my surname if it's important (it's in my email address for example.

It's similar to Jacobs/Jacob. You couldn't be sure which one it was by hearing it on the phone.

Therunecaster · 26/10/2020 13:43

@MikeUniformMike

How about a compromise, and change it to Scone.
So funny Grin
FlibbertyGiblets · 26/10/2020 13:45

Scottstone. Maybe prn Scottst'n.

Best wishes OP as you hurdle the trammels of your marriage.

FleetsumNLangCleg · 26/10/2020 13:46

I vote for Scone too Grin

RyvitaBrevis · 26/10/2020 13:46

I vote for Scott. It sounds more like you could launch a lifestyle brand with it.

Whereas Stone reminds me of McCarthy and Stone.

rainkeepsfallingdown · 26/10/2020 13:47

My vote is also for Scone, or some alternative baked good. :)

MyCatHatesEverybody · 26/10/2020 13:48

Brilliant, I mean everyone loves a scone, how could it go wrong.

In a jam or cream first kind of way?!

For some reason Scott has brought to mind ye olde sitcom Terry and June and all I have in my head now is "Oh Joooooooon" and a garden chair collapsing.

Callardandbowser · 26/10/2020 13:49

eh?
