Dear vipers, I am going to ditch my husband's name and I have a claim to either Scott or Stone. I want to know which one of two sounds more glam, more posh.

Scott of course has a lot of associations, from Buccleuch down to Ronnie, Stone to me brings to mind Patsy, (not a bad thing).

Going through the separation roller coaster right now, and I desperately need cheering up. (NC for this, natch)
YABU - Wha hae!
YANBU - Rock and roll, baby!

@WunWun

Why didn't you do the voting so we could choose which name to vote for?

Stone is much better than Scott.

She did! Biscuit
ClaudiaWankleman · 26/10/2020 12:50

I’d choose Stone, purely for the Patsy association. I think it’s wonderful.

I have a similarly ‘rugged’ one syllable surname and I love it.

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/10/2020 12:50

Of the two, Stone definitely the cooler choice. Patsy definitely not a bad association.

Obviously not!Halloween Wink

It really does depend on your first name.

I think I prefer Scott though. Though Scone is an option!

SoupDragon · 26/10/2020 12:50

@notacooldad

Lost me at the use of 'naice' Me too.
Clearly not given you opened the thread to post.
AliceAforethought · 26/10/2020 12:51

They are equally as unremarkable, and what the flip does your voting mean?

Nickysofttouch · 26/10/2020 12:51

Oh I have... you seem naice Halloween Hmm

SoupDragon · 26/10/2020 12:51

I vote Scone.

(Or Stone if baked goods are off the table)

IckleBear · 26/10/2020 12:53

Stone!

BlowThisForEggAndSoldiers · 26/10/2020 12:53

@SoupDragon

I vote Scone.

I'm now considering Crumpets, as in, "the thinking man's"

Depends on the first name.

If -for example - you're called Kate, then "Kate Scott" sounds like

"Great scot!!!"

Which could either be good or bad I suppose - but I wouldn't want it.

However you do have a chance here for total reinvention... why stay with the obvious...

Sarah Scottington-Stone
Julia Stonely-Scott
Evelyn Stotscone
Jemina Scottney-Stoneford-Smyth

Kseniya · 26/10/2020 13:00

I would choose Stone. because the second surname in one of the other languages is not translated very proudly and beautifully (like cattle)

coconuttyhead · 26/10/2020 13:07

@MikeUniformMike

How about a compromise, and change it to Scone.

OwlOne · 26/10/2020 13:10

I like Kate Scott because it sounds like Great Scott.

I think you should really enjoy making the right decision! If you're getting divorced you need the light relief Wine

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 26/10/2020 13:12

I'd go for Battenberg-Scone personally.

That’s hilarious, I know a Kate Scott and now I’m going to think ‘Great Scott’ whenever I see her!
TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 26/10/2020 13:13

I prefer the name Stone but I wouldn’t want to be naice particularly

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 26/10/2020 13:13

My vote goes to Stone.

ChikiTIKI · 26/10/2020 13:14

I voted for Stone but either are nice.

Can you go further up your family tree, look at grandmother's maiden names etc to see if theres anything more glam?

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 26/10/2020 13:15

I also have a friend who picked an entirely new name.

I recently came across someone with the surname Hazard which is cool.

How about a compromise, and change it to Scone. Brilliant, I mean everyone loves a scone, how could it go wrong.

diamondpony80 · 26/10/2020 13:21
