Blanket freak

Is it weird to have a blanket/ throw folded on your sofa, so that you can snuggle up with it when on the sofa? My husband has just gone on about how he hates the blanket and nobody else has a blanket for this purpose. It's nice, matches the room etc. AIBU?

It’s essential to have one or more. We have three folded on the back of our sofa, never considered they might look untidy and I don’t care, we use them all the time. The children snuggle under them together and it’s cute.

I have approximately 9,000 posh wool blankets that are artfully strewn on every chair and sofa in the house, neatly piled in baskets, tightly folded over the bed like a wildly uncomfortable hotel... if I could fashion the walls and roof out of fancy blankets I would.

DP abhors a blanket – or at least these scratchy woollen ones – and is forever yanking off the one folded over the back of the sofa to disguise the stains, yet will wear the world’s most offensively ugly hoodie to keep warm.

Alicenwonderland · 23/10/2020 19:28

I have a beautiful grey, fluffy one that does match my sofa. My kids used to drag their duvets down which was annoying as I'd have to re-make their beds. I do wonder if it's a modern thing as my parents don't have one and I didn't growing up.

Chloemol · 23/10/2020 19:29

I have a couple, much better to pull one over me than keep putting the heating up. Tell him you are saving the environment

FrankieChips · 23/10/2020 19:30

We have a heated one but the cat has taken ownership of it.

Ravenesque · 23/10/2020 19:30

I have a few of them. Nothing nicer at this time of the year than to snuggle up under the blanket for some TV watching, or reading, or knitting, or anything really.

They also come in handy for the cats who own me and would be pretty pissed off if I got rid of them.

Carouselfish · 23/10/2020 19:30

I have one. And others upstairs.

Piglet89 · 23/10/2020 19:31

I have such a blanket, which I found in a skip o a rainy day over a decade ago. Washed it, came up good as new! We call it the skip rug and it definitely comes in handy!

Piglet89 · 23/10/2020 19:32

It’s yellow, orange and red and some beige in it. It matches nothing but I don’t care.

mrsswayze · 23/10/2020 19:34

We have some bit put in a basket when not in use . I got a heated plug In One from mil last Xmas best present ever

thenightsky · 23/10/2020 19:35

Not only blankets here, I also have a Big Slipper www.argos.co.uk/sd/electric-foot-warmer/

Moominmammaatsea · 23/10/2020 19:35

I wish I had shares in Melin Tregwynt (look them up if you like a nice blanket) as every summer we spend three weeks in Pembrokeshire and my trip to the woollen mill is the highlight of our holiday (for me, not the children, obviously). I save up all year round to buy my annual Welsh woollen blanket. The kids know it would be a toss up as to who/what to save first if we had to evacuate for a fire. Your husband could not be more wrong.

Derekhello · 23/10/2020 19:35

We have 3 on ours, plus the cat has her one 😊 🐈

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 23/10/2020 19:37

We have 3 sofas in the living room, often with 4 throws between them. For us and the dogs. I’m always on the lookout for new throws and blankets. Heating on, covered in a lovely soft, cosy blanket cuddling a dog or two, my favourite thing ever.
So YADNBU.

PrincessButtockUp · 23/10/2020 19:37

My husband was another one who hated cushions and called them "sofa parasites" until his back got bad and now cushions are essential. He doesn't feel the cold the way I do, so my sofa blanket is essential if we are to have the heating at a temperature he can handle.

readingismycardio · 23/10/2020 19:38

We have 2 as wellGrin I love it.

DeliciouslyFemale · 23/10/2020 19:39

I got rid of the cushions from the sofa and replaced them with chunky throws. The throws are folded in a way that they look like cushions and tucked back in on themselves so they don’t unravel when moved. It’s a technique I saw on YouTube.

Blondiney · 23/10/2020 19:39

I have them on my sofas under the pretense that they're for the dogs. Grin

Nothing better than snuggling up under a cosy blanket on the sofa. I never quite know what to do with myself in summer, feel a bit naked.

Ginfordinner · 23/10/2020 19:40

Have you seen te Billy Connolly stand up about The Big Slipper? Grin

thenightsky · 23/10/2020 19:41

@Ginfordinner Of course. Grin

NaughtipussMaximus · 23/10/2020 19:42

We don’t have throws over the chairs or sofas like I had in my student house (ie to cover manky stained upholstery) but we do have lovely woven woollen throws draped artistically over chair arms a la Ideal Home magazine homes. Wink

LakieLady · 23/10/2020 19:45

I'm under my sofa blanket as we speak.

If we didn't have blankets, we'd have to turn the heating up.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 23/10/2020 19:45

Yes, we have 2 thick and 2 larger but thinner fleecy blankets for covering up when watching TV. Our house is quite cool because we're skint and can't afford a big gas bill so it's a nice, cheap way of keeping warm! We also have 8 cushions of varying sizes on there. Just seeing them on the settee makes it feel cosy and inviting.

TheyreComingToGetYouBarbara · 23/10/2020 19:45

Blankets on the couch are a MUST. They are decorative as well as useful. If you each have a side you tend to use, I'd keep the blanket on your side, as a kind gesture. Wink That way it won't affect him at all.
