'Because these areas are lower income with many more people employed in face to face with the public jobs - retail, cab drivers, or in factories with minimal Covid measure. Fewer people in jobs they can work from home. Overcrowded housing etc.'

Fascinating. Who knew GM and Liverpool were the only places with shops and taxi drivers. There really is this myth that up North they all wear flat caps and live in poverty.

As a pp said this second wave occurred when super spreading students returned to uni. Going by the flouters on this thread many people cba with restrictions any more and like to shrug their shoulders and blame Government. It's the Brit mentality sadly.

Ah yes because the virus would just toddle off on its merry way if we all followed da rulez.

Leicester was the first place to have local restrictions. It was widely acknowledged that its spread there was because people employed in the clothing sweat shops didn’t get paid if they didn’t work so went to work despite having Covid symptoms. They couldn’t afford not to.

They also live in overcrowded conditions, again through poverty. In addition, Leicester has a large BAME community. This is far from the first thread on which you’ve tried to twist facts to suit your narrative in a pointless attempt to defend the government.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 21/10/2020 20:54

@GetOffYourHighHorse

Not the only areas with shops but can you really look at this map and argue that there is no correlation with deprivation?

Less than 3% of Manchester's population is student. Over 8% of Bristol's population is student yet no spike.

I'm not saying students haven't made it worse, where there is an outbreak it spreads like wildfire through a student population. But I don't think it's a sole factor.

@alphabetsoup1980

You're right! The better person WOULD do all they can to protect themselves and others! I hope you're joking about not adhearing anymore.... I know it's frustrating and mentally challenging but we are all in it together
Are we bollocks like all in it together, that's utter nonsense. This is one of most divisive issues I can remember. The idea that we are all in it together is as ridiculous as the notion that all would be well if only people would follow the twatting rules.
MushMonster · 21/10/2020 21:07

It is not the goverment fault that we are in a pandemic. They are not dealing flawlessly with it, that is true. But we have been asked to follow the set of rules, guidance and law published by our local authorities to minimise the spread of the virus. And so I think we should all do our best.
But I would really like some clarity on the country's rules! It is like living in a parallel world to the news! Nothing really makes any sense to me anymore regarding the rules in other parts of the same country! I am in Wales, no tiers so far...

TabbyStar · 21/10/2020 21:38

Students not the only factor, but Bristol's term started later than Manchester for example, and those early days were a quick switch from some face to face classes in Manchester to everything possible online, so Bristol starting later may have benefited from that learning. And cases in Bristol are rising whilst Manchester are falling.

Oh vinyl do grow up. 'Twisting facts' otherwise known as disagreeing with you. Not the first thread? Do we have a maximum amount of opinions allowed, hmm?🙄

Clavinova · 22/10/2020 09:26

The reason tier 3 areas are in tier 3 is that they never got the numbers down far enough. Because these areas are lower income with many more people employed in face to face with the public jobs - retail, cab drivers, or in factories with minimal Covid measure. Fewer people in jobs they can work from home. Overcrowded housing etc.

Not helped by these people;

9 April -
"Greater Manchester Police warning after 660 parties shut down."

"Mayor Andy Burnham said such behaviour was "completely unacceptable".

"They are putting everybody at risk," he said."

I hear you Op Smile

It’s fucking shit isn’t it. Life is barely worth living.

FatimaMunchy · 22/10/2020 09:34

Dee1975 even if the OP had broken the rules, which she hasn't, she could hardly be held responsible for a whole area being in Tier 3.

Mimishimi · 22/10/2020 09:41

It's for your health and safety that they are all in this together.

...It is for your safety...

Then come the jackboots.

But London had huge protest and parties galore. Yet it didn't see the same spike.

Stop blaming people who don't have the luxury of being able to stay at home.

Your link is dated 27th June - mine is dated 9th April - Professor Jonathan Van-Tam said the North hadn't managed to get infection numbers down before the summer.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/10/2020 10:21

Guys,

I haven't broken ANY rules. I think all this is being appallingly managed but I had my say yesterday and now I'll move on: I'm not planning to run amok around the streets of the north infecting people.

I didn't kill anyone. I didn't cause the north to head to Tier 3. I did accidentally brush against my trainers' arm while I was lifting last night but I've said three Hail Marys and a Glory Be, so I think I'm just about OK Blush

No. Twisting facts. You can disagree with me as much as you like but you’re very adept at manipulating information to suit your argument. And your response when you’re called out on it speaks volumes.

Anyway, back to the correlation between high Covid levels and deprivation which you maintain doesn’t exist. Anything to add?

Notcoolmum · 22/10/2020 13:56

We are definitely being turned against each other. Spouting out statements like 'you are the problem' 'it's your fault'. If we had believed that going into a tier 3 lockdown would improve the situation we would do it. But even the government's scientific advisers don't believe it's the right course of action. They advocated for a circuit breaker across the country and were ignored.

Tier 3 is extremely limited in its effectiveness. My children are exposed to hundreds of households by attending school and college. I'm sat in my comfortable but very isolated wfh bubble. I want to be able to meet my closest friends and family. And I haven't seen the evidence that I am a risk to them. Or them to me. And we have no clear roadmap for coming out of tier 3. How long are we expected to be isolated. How many businesses will close.

I wear my mask. Wash my hands. Socially distance. Shop for neighbours when they were shielding. Trying to lose weight and get fit whilst upping my asthma medication and getting my flu jab.

We need an effective test and trace system. That would significantly reduce the number of people inadvertently transmitting the virus. Vulnerable people need protecting. But we need some normality and basic human support.

It’ll be interesting to see how many people on Mumsnet are still happy to be in lockdown in 5 years time when we have no jobs, no money and no lives.

Madonnawiththebigboobies · 22/10/2020 17:03

I will also be interested into how many people on mumsnet have lost relatives , colleagues and friends in 5 years time . Seems like everyone is a fucking expert. Could you do better ?? Yes in hindsight
