I’m such an idiot!!!
I’m a seller on Etsy and have posted out an order today (a gift box that a woman ordered for her friend).
She wanted a gift message included.
I’ve just been looking at her order again and realised she wanted her name “Grainne” on it but I remember I wrote “Love Granny” on it.
I don’t know how this happened as I’m normally extremely careful with all the little details. The order has been posted out now so there’s nothing I can do. The friend will receive it and be really confused as to who sent it.
I feel awful that I’ve probably ruined the surprise and will now likely receive a bad review too.
Should I email the customer to warn her and profusely apologise (and maybe offer a refund or a replacement?)
Or should I say nothing and see what happens?
:-(

Graw (rhymes with straw) -in- yah

ivfbabymomma1 · 20/10/2020 19:27

I wouldn't be mad at all OP

FedUpWithBriiiiick · 20/10/2020 19:29

@Morgana7

How is Grainne actually pronounced?
Graw-nya (Ulster dialect)
whatsleep · 20/10/2020 19:29

If it were me I’d be happy you’re held your hands up to the mistake. Hopefully it won’t be a big deal for her and it certainly doesn’t warrant a bad review.

username9895346 · 20/10/2020 19:32

If this happened to me and you were honest about it I wouldn't be mad at all OP. In fact I would be delighted I got a refund but my friend still got her gift. Obviously it possibly ruins the surprise but I think it would make the friend and buyer laugh. I hope anyway! Also placemarking to see her response

Just leave it. Why do people not just have simple names? They should expect this kind of thing - which probably happens all the time.

Justwingingmotherhood · 20/10/2020 19:37

@MikeUniformMike

The recipient will probably thank his or her grandmother profusely, and she will assume it is some passive-aggressive dig at her. The whole family will argue about it and go NC. All because of your lack of attention to deail.
Honestly is there any fucking need for being over dramatic? She feels shit enough. Be kind in what you say!

I doubt she named herself 😂
Dagnabit · 20/10/2020 19:38

@IdkickJilliansass - I’ve been giggling about yours for about 5 minutes!

Ceebs85 · 20/10/2020 19:39

I'm sure being called Grainne she's had worse. Definitely apologise and hope customer and recipient have a sense of humour. I'd find it funny

Yeah! Why can't everyone have a name I can spell! Anglo-Saxon names all round. Sorry, Aditi, you're now called Anna. Tough luck, Eun-Soo! Your new name is Emma. Hmm
elfycat · 20/10/2020 19:40

I sell on Etsy, and if there's the slightest hint that the item is not as described I refund 10% immediately at the point of my first contact, offering a full refund if the item is returned. I've turned a couple of minor issues into 5* reviews (I sell vintage jewellery and sometimes things that are old just break, or have damage that no matter how carefully I look I miss from the photos).

Some days writing a message, or a complicated foreign address with unfamiliar names gives me a headache and a pile of discarded cards Grin. Luckily most aren't personalised.

Dagnabit · 20/10/2020 19:42

@Justwingingmotherhood - blimey, calm down. It was clearly a joke.

This is really fucking rude. It’s a perfectly normal name. Just bedside it’s Irish doesn’t mean it’s not simple.

Are you really so narrow-minded that you think any non-English name is “difficult”? 😡

Anyway @Morgana7 I’m sure it’ll be grand. Unless her granny has just died or something!

You’re right though that it will ruin the surprise and because of that I do think you should offer a refund or something. The mistake was yours. If it was me I wouldn’t take you up on the offer but I’d appreciate it.

Don’t think a discount for a future order would do much good as she probably wouldn’t trust you to order from you again going forward.

But an offer of a refund will make her more likely to give you a positive review!

Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 19:44

I’d been having an incredibly stressful day and only had 4 hours of broken sleep last night but I know that’s not an excuse because a customer deserves to receive what they pay for properly without errors.
She still hasn’t read the email yet.

GabsAlot · 20/10/2020 19:44

why a refund maybe a discount for next time
its only a message ive had several misspelled messages

DeliciouslyFemale · 20/10/2020 19:46

@Morgana7

They are both in N.I :-(
Oh, in that case, unless they’re weird, they’ll probably laugh their arse off and stick it on Facebook. 🤣
SunshineCake · 20/10/2020 19:46

This is why you send the correct tag to the buyer. So that the surprise isn't ruined.

FedUpWithBriiiiick · 20/10/2020 19:48

Facts @DeliciouslyFemale Grin

Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 19:48

@SunshineCake she will receive the parcel tomorrow before 1pm. there wouldn’t be time to send the correct gift note unfortunately

GabsAlot · 20/10/2020 19:49

wish i cold get a refund everytime someone spelt my name wrong

Morgana7 · 20/10/2020 19:51

It’s not so much the fact the name is misspelt. It’s more that her friend might not know who sent the parcel and I’m sure the sender was looking forward to her getting a surprise from her

It is a simple name. It's just not an English one 🙄
MC68 · 20/10/2020 19:54

Make contact, apologise, ask how they’d like it resolved & negotiate from there. If you handle the situation well you could still get a good review as it’s good customer service etc
Good luck! Flowers

MumUndone · 20/10/2020 19:54

Lol, this is funny. Halloween Grin
