Mystified by tiny gussets. Is there - is there something wrong with my undercarriage?

Never been able to understand how anyone could bear to wear thong-type pants. I've always just thought -surely they must ride up and get into - the bit you don't want interfered with by your clothing??? Never understood it.

Anyhow, I sent for some M&S pants. Look like normal pants. Nice soft fabric. Comfy. Put them on, head out for the day. And -- oh dear, turns out they have a mystifyingly narrow gusset with the consequences I would think were entirely predictable. Not comfy after all! Much hitching down required Grin And there wasn't even a warning!!!

Just - why?

Have I got a weird-shaped fanny? Is it unusually lacking in firmness? Is it in the wrong place?? How does anyone wear these things??

Grow up, I'm not a pervert.

Or a woman 🤫

Beaverdam100 · 20/10/2020 21:38

I'm Tom Hardy.

You want handmade pants!

Mardy Bum Boutique, or Hiccups&Juice, Crease Free Clothes or one of the many other makers. Get looking on Facebook because there are lots of microbusinesses run mostly by women making Proper Pants (and other clothes) from home.

Generous coverage, wide gussets, no elastic, and some amazing colours/prints.

@PhoneAddict

Now you see, I have no bum whatsoever. Just basically a back that at some point turns into legs. Therefore every pair of knickers I wear disappear into my crack.

The only solution to this is a thong. At least it's meant to be there, and it's substantially less material than normal knickers so much more comfortable. I'll be in my 90s and be the old lady in the care home that wears thongs...

This made me 😂😂😂. But you're very welcome to some of my bum if that would help. I have more than enough to go round.
CrotchetyQuaver · 20/10/2020 21:43

Just go for the granny pants, you can't beat a nice wide gusset...

1000umbrellas · 20/10/2020 22:13

I like cotton Jockey pants, all the styles I've tried are wide in the gusset and also have covered elastic around the leg holes which keeps them from chafing. Though as it seems with all pants the material has gotten flimsier over the years... sigh...

thenightsky · 20/10/2020 22:33

@candycane222

oooh i'm loving the look of those big bloomer knicks. Do they work under jeans, or is it for floatier garms only?
Dresses and skirts to prevent the thigh chaffing.
goose1964 · 20/10/2020 22:35

I'm currently wearing a pair of Primark 's finest. Gusset in the right place but they aren't very stretchy and I've lost weigh so they're starting to become loose.

eaglejulesk · 20/10/2020 22:53

I've had thunderpants @Snowdrop30. Agree they are comfortable, but also expensive! I'm not in the UK, but I always wear Bonds boyleg knickers - really comfortable. However, yes, the gusset should be placed higher up than it is, but I can live with that as everything else is perfect!

Brissiegirl · 21/10/2020 00:40

And there I was thinking I was the only one with a gusset problem, that my bits must be in the wrong place. Thanks OP for this thread. I've happily spent last few mins laughing at various comments and made a promise to myself to suffer in silence no more. I'm off to try some of the recommendations. My bum deserves better.

SeaToSki · 21/10/2020 01:42

For those of your with dd with gusset issues, have a look at mini boden. Substantial width, nice soft study fabric that washes well. Good strong elastic

Chocaholic9 · 21/10/2020 02:33

@2bazookas

Tiny gussets must be for those skinny women who when they're standing up legs together, you can see a little gap at the top.
I'm one of those women and I still can't bear tiny gussets. I buy knickers that are several sizes too big.
StarlightLady · 21/10/2020 03:12

This goes to show that women are not a herd and there is no one size fits all.

It does sound to me though that a lot of people are being economical with the truth when it comes to their size.

Leaving the pad issue to one side, l wear M&S Brazilians fairly regularly. They are very comfy for me. I certainly wouldn’t want anything bigger.

Bagelsandbrie · 21/10/2020 06:15

I feel like I’ve found my people BlushGrin

Plain black M and S midi knickers are literally the only ones I find comfortable.

I tried to branch into their Brazilians after everyone on here saying how comfortable they were. Were they fuck! Confused Even in a larger size they just hid up my bum all day. Horrible.

StarlightLady · 21/10/2020 07:56

I have never had Brazilians go up my bum. I think there are a number of issues here in addition to us all not being a standard size.

  • Too much fabric can ride around and cause as many problems as wearing too small;
  • Some treat 100% cotton as being the holy grail, but it has no give or stretch;
  • Viscose is a natural fabric;
  • For me, soft stretch lace moves with you and it does breathe, it’s full of tiny holes.
  • There is another more libertine option in the summer Wink!!!!!
Beaverdam100 · 21/10/2020 08:59

I used to love the underwear miss selfridge used to sell but they stopped selling them. I now wear the cotton ones from primark. Just plain white or black knickers. I cant stand nylon or french knickers, they give me a rash.

Not keen on the M&S knickers, i find they come up to my belly button and uncomfortable.

inappropriateraspberry · 21/10/2020 09:11

Thinking about it this morning, I really want the gusset wider at the back, I think that's the key bum creepage area - I've tried short styles but they don't seem to work for me.

candycane222 · 21/10/2020 09:27

So many informative posts! Since, unsurprisingly, not all pants fit all bums, seems to me we need to help the retailers find a better way of classifying them? I reckon a photo of a pair laid flat (ie with the side seams cut) , inside upwards, on the pack and on the website would be valuable? And/or 3 crucial measuments like minimum gusset width, gusset coverage of pube area, and cheek coverage?

Then when we have that sorted, we can get started on bras.....

Must get eyes tested, I read that as “mystified by tiny guests”

BearSoFair · 21/10/2020 10:06

I laughed through this thread yesterday with nothing to really add, grateful for my well fitting Next bikini cut underwear...and then, this morning, opened the pack of 'midi' cut I bought in Peacocks last week. Jesus Christ. They were saggy in the arse after 20 minutes, too much material on the hip so it's bunching up, and the front is cut so low my pubes are at risk of poking over the waistband Blush Blush Never again!

LittleTiger007 · 21/10/2020 10:09

@candycane222 😂 it sounds like you have a business plan all laid out! There is clearly a need in the market not being met! You have a ready made test group here. ... and don’t get me started on bras!!

PhilSwagielka · 21/10/2020 10:14

@Beaverdam100

I bet you stay well away from those tyoe now then 😂.

Grow up, I'm not a pervert.

Cool story, bro'.
candycane222 · 21/10/2020 10:20

Noo Bear, how very aggravating! I've had to steer clear of minis ever since my caesar, but - grrr!

Tiger you're right - all rights waived though! You'd need to be able to think in 3-D, and I definitely can't.... I can't even work out which side of a building I'm in once I've climbed the stairs....

movingonup20 · 21/10/2020 10:31

The pretty M&S ones did this to me too. Asda pants (that match their dd+ bra range) are super comfy and only £4. But my favourites are my modibodi period pants, I actually wear them a lot as I'm of the age things are rather unpredictable and my bladder muscles aren't what they were, gives security!

Beaverdam100 · 21/10/2020 10:34

@philswagielka what on earth are you talking about?
