To not want people putting their dog s*** in my bin?

Genuinely don’t know if I’m BU or not here. Basically the last few times I have had my black bin emptied someone has put their dog crap in my bin after it’s been emptied. It is in a little bag and they have used the bin lid to keep it at the top. AIBU to think they should take it home and put it in their own bin? I personally don’t want to handle someone else’s dog crap and I certainly don’t want it in my bin for the next two weeks until the next collection. AIBU?

Can you move your bin to somewhere else where only you can use it?

ShirleyPhallus · 19/10/2020 14:02

I really wouldn’t care about this

I’d care if the bag was undone and dog shit went everywhere. But bagged up and in the bin, no I wouldn’t care

TH22 · 19/10/2020 14:02

I ordi ally would much rather someone put it in my bin than dump on the floor...
That tends to be the two options that goes through these people's heads - it doesn't occur to them to actually take it home!
PS I'm a dog owner and my poo (well, not my poo) goes in a public bin or my own.

GCAcademic · 19/10/2020 14:02

YANBU. I have a dog and wouldn’t dream of doing this.

LaBellina · 19/10/2020 14:03

YANBU.
It's rude and I wouldn't dream of doing this.

Floralnomad · 19/10/2020 14:05

YANBU , I also have a dog and wouldn’t dream of doing this .

Mol1628 · 19/10/2020 14:05

I hate this too. I have a dog and always take it home to my bin if I don’t walk past one. I don’t want another dogs crap in my bin. I think it’s really rude to do this.

mycatlovesmenotyou · 19/10/2020 14:05

YANBU. The bin is for your use only and somebody filling it with their crap could mean that you can't fit your rubbish in. Or a bag could split or get squished and leak.

Is there any way that you can secure the bin with a lock? or build a lockable store around it?

abigailsnan · 19/10/2020 14:08

I would strongly object and would try to wait and watch who was responsible if I could and give them a piece of my mind, they are lazy and should either take it home with them or use a public bin which is emptied daily by the Council.

ColleagueFromMars · 19/10/2020 14:08

YANBU. I'm a dog owner, one of our walks goes along a back alley behind people's houses, and I've caught myself a couple of times almost absent mindedly putting the bag in a handy wheelie bin as we pass. But I don't, because that's really not on. I use my own wheelie bin for that but would hate it if some random dog owner stated putting theirs in mine!

ColleagueFromMars · 19/10/2020 14:09

(To be clear, I've caught myself before doing it)

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 19/10/2020 14:18

if we're on a walk the bagged poo comes home if there are no designated poo bins, if on a car walk and no poo bins available then I hang it on the back wiper and bin it when we are home.

If we lived on a dog walk route I think I'd sooner they put it in my bin than left it bagged (or not) where it fell!

Can you relocate your bin for a bit to break the habit of the Phantom Poo Binner? It will just be a habit and your bin is convenient for them.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 19/10/2020 14:23

I have lots of dog walkers past the front of my house - CCTV picked up the same person 3 times- she’s a bitch. I got a gravity lock- took 20 mins with a drill to fix. Annoying but definitely worth it.

BingoGo · 19/10/2020 14:23

YANBU. I loathe dog owners who are so entitled they think they can do whatever they want. Literally putting shit in someone else's bin, instead of carrying the bag home and getting rid of it themselves. Disgusting people. Don't like them nor their security blanket/beast

I nearly did this in the same scenario, absent mind. Bin - poo goes in. I stopped myself and I wouldn't do it.

I can see how in a situation where they are in a certain position it must happen a lot, and it's really not fair.

unmarkedbythat · 19/10/2020 14:26

That's so rude. And I bet the person would justify it with "at least I didn't leave it on the floor" type excuses. Ugh.

Cadent · 19/10/2020 14:26

YANBU, could you put a note on your bin saying NO DOG SHIT?

Spidey66 · 19/10/2020 14:29

It’s not perfect but I’d rather it was in my bin than left for me to tread in.

DynamoKev · 19/10/2020 14:29

We have had someone complaining about this locally which made me think about it - I really don't think I'd be bothered.
Bins may have used nappies in - if sealed up I don't really favour human crap over dog crap, and as long as it's not a huge amount.
As for it being there 2 weeks - what difference does that make? In a sealed bag if surely makes no difference?
I'd rather someone bagged it and dropped in my bin rather than leaving for DD (or me) to step in.

TroysMammy · 19/10/2020 14:29

YANBU last week some disgusting individual placed a used poo bag in my food waste bin which had just been emptied by the council. Why did they think that was acceptable when they could have taken it home or added 5 mins to their journey and placed it in a dog poo bin at the end of the road? I expect it was because it was general waste week and they would have had a bag of shite in their bin for 2 weeks. Lazy bastard.

Cadent · 19/10/2020 14:35

It's just not fair though is it? I would love to have a dog but I don't because of the responsibilities that come with it. I would be very annoyed at finding someone else's dog shit in my bin.

Smudge77 · 19/10/2020 14:44

YANBU, I was tidying up our front garden and a small walled area very narrow due to shape of plots, between my and the neighbours houses( on our side) had 7 yes 7 bags of dog poo slung there. There is a dog bin not 3 mins walk. Just so entitled to think they can do as they please. I wrote a note writing Take your dog home with you. its disgusting. I don't have a dog or cat so why should I deal with their mess.

Stuckinnow · 19/10/2020 14:46

Or course YANBU. It's your household bin! Why would you want the poo of someone else's dog in it? Or their guaranteed unwashed hands from picking up the dog poo in the first place all over your bin lid (yeah the might pick it up with a bag, but we all use toilet paper and still need to wash our hands) People who do this have a sense of entitlement and no understanding that their dogs crap is disgusting to others. It would be like people thinking they could put their kids' nappies in anyone's bins. And yes better than treading in it but that's not the only 2 options!

rorosemary · 19/10/2020 14:47

Some of us like to clean our bins after collection. We can't do that if theres dog shit in there. Well, we can, but not without clearing the shit first. If it's your dog, it's your shit and not someone elses to get rid of.
Soubriquet · 19/10/2020 14:48

I really don’t get it when people complain but other people’s rubbish in their bin. I mean it’s not like yours goes to a magical wasteland and theirs is destined for waste hell

Unless it’s filled to the brim and there’s no room for your own rubbish, then I understand.
