To not want people putting their dog s*** in my bin?

username3059503 · 19/10/2020 13:59

Genuinely don’t know if I’m BU or not here. Basically the last few times I have had my black bin emptied someone has put their dog crap in my bin after it’s been emptied. It is in a little bag and they have used the bin lid to keep it at the top. AIBU to think they should take it home and put it in their own bin? I personally don’t want to handle someone else’s dog crap and I certainly don’t want it in my bin for the next two weeks until the next collection. AIBU?

If the bin is empty and they put a bag in there then there’s a good chance it would split with the weight of other rubbish on top (we have a dog have made the mistake of putting a dog poo back in an empty wheelie bin 🤮)
It’s rude dog owners need to use public bins or take it home

LindyLou2020 · 19/10/2020 14:54

And who else has come across the delightful practice of, say in a public park or woodland area, people hanging their bags of dog poo on tree branches? What's that about - being thick?, entitled?.........I just don't get it.

BreconBeBuggered · 19/10/2020 14:58

I don't even put it in my own bin, unless it's only a day or two before it's due to be collected. Some of them are very flimsy and liable to burst at any unconsidered contact, as my shitty fingers can attest.
On the other hand, our council have for whatever reason removed all the designated dog waste bins locally, and advised residents to use normal public bins. One household violently objects to using the bin nearest their house, and if you dare to approach that one with your little black bag of goodness, you get heavy duty banged windows and scowling, as if you'd walked through their gate and helped yourself to space in their wheelie bin.

DeliciouslyFemale · 19/10/2020 15:01

It’s pure ignorance. Nothing less. It doesn’t matter if some people don’t mind, the OP doesn’t want dog shit in her bin, even if it is in a tied bag. I’m a dog sitter so there’s always bags of dog crap in my bin, but I’d never be so ignorant as to put it in someone else’s.

Cuddling57 · 19/10/2020 15:01

YANBU I have a dog and wouldn't put it in someone's bin.
It's stinks after a while and could split. Yuck!

Levrierssontmeilleurs · 19/10/2020 15:02

I have a dog & I’d never do this ! I do put it in my own bin if I’ve not passed one whilst out but I’d never put it in someone else’s

ShirleyPhallus · 19/10/2020 15:05

No one wants someone else’s bagged dog poo in their bin, but step over to the cat-poo-in-the-garden thread and you’ll be told firmly by many cat owners that cats are free to roam and YABU to mind them shifting in your garden

Personally I’d prefer poo in my bin to poo in my garden

VanGoghsDog · 19/10/2020 15:06

@Spidey66

It’s not perfect but I’d rather it was in my bin than left for me to tread in.
Those aren't the only options though, are they?

I have a friend who does this, I can't get my head around why she thinks it's ok to put her dog poo in someone else's bin. It's embarrassing!

SaveloyDip · 19/10/2020 15:09

I never used to mind folk popping a tied up poo bag in our outside bin occasionally when our bin was left outside our back garden gate - however that quickly escalated to bags being slung in the general direction of our outside bin and then our recycling bins, whether tied or untied.
And that was on top of the bastards who just let their dogs shit right in our side garden and the grass verge on the other side of the path - entitled arseholes.

PardonMyFrancais · 19/10/2020 15:13

I wouldn't care in the slightest. Better than leaving it on the floor or hanging from a tree (as so many people in my area seem to do Hmm)

Kaydogsdinner · 19/10/2020 15:14

You could get one of those bin locks? Sorry if someone has already suggested that!

Piglet89 · 19/10/2020 15:15

This has happened to me several times. Bin is in front of house. It was in our old (non wheelie) bin. Twice the bag split and dog shit went everywhere meaning I had to disinfect the bin.

It is a REVOLTING, DISGUSTING thing to do and I was absolutely raging having to spend a substantial amount of time cleaning up after some lazy fucking dog owner.

Brighterthansunflowers · 19/10/2020 15:16

YANBU

I had someone leave a bag of dog poo in my recycling “bin” once. Except it’s not a bin, it’s a reusable heavy duty plastic bag (standard council issue round here) that lives in my kitchen except for when it’s put out for collection. Am I fuck going to have someone else’s dog shit in my kitchen for a week! I’d have thrown it at them if I could but sadly they were long gone.

RiseUpWiseUpEyesUp · 19/10/2020 15:18

I hate this, but also other people putting their rubbish in my bin. Purely because my bin men don’t load each bin and tip the whole thing in (even though the truck has the ability too..) they just remove the black sacks. So my bin is full of everyone else’s random trash items which is disgusting.

IMNOTSHOUTING · 19/10/2020 15:19

I wouldn't care personally but I've never cleaned my bin in my life (I didn't even realise that was a thing) so I probably wouldn't even notice it was in there and it would just get disposed of the next time the bin men come.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 19/10/2020 15:23

You can get 'gravity locks' to fit to your bin. They only open when tipped upside down. Otherwise you need a key to unlock the lid.

Unfortunately some councils don't allow them so you need to find out before purchasing them.

I had an issue with neighbours filling my bin with dirty nappies and dirty cat litter. They didn't want to put it in their own bin.

AlwaysLatte · 19/10/2020 15:30

That would drive me mad as I never put our own poo bags straight in the bin without a bin liner! Take your bin round the side of the house so it's not accessible?

Ellingtonboots · 19/10/2020 15:34

I'm on the fence with this one, I'm a dog owner and I know for a fact of several people who dont pick up their dogs poo n certain routes because they dont want to walk with it for whatever distance before they find a poo bin 🙄 I find it ridiculous and they shouldn't be allowed to be dog owners in my opinion.
However if it meant they would pick it up and not leave it for somebody to stand in then I would be completely fine for it to be put in my bin. Tied up in a suitable bag it's no different to the other junk in the bin.

But if it was somebody being lazy and there was a suitable poo bin nearby I'd find it unreasonable.
For context I have once placed a bag of dog poo in a somebodies full bin waiting for collection that day as the route I was on had no poo bin for a little way and I figured who was it going to hurt, the owners of the bin would never know.

Sparklesocks · 19/10/2020 15:40

I don’t know why for some the only options are ‘leave it on the ground for someone to step in’ or ‘chuck it in a neighbour’s bin’. Taking it home or finding a public bin is also possible! My council are really strict and only take the bin bags so any loose items like that would just sit at the bottom. I wouldn’t fancy fishing bags of dog shit out every fortnight to put into a bin bag.

On a similar note we live in a private road off another residential road. At the corner of the entrance to our road is a little power box, and a dog walker got into the habit of leaving their little bags of poo on it when they walked past 🤢 sometimes there would be 3-5 bags sitting there and then they’d disappear so we assumed someone got fed up and picked them up. But then a neighbour caught the walker in the act, who says she waited until there are a few and then clears them so it’s ok?? Something about not liking to carry it home everyday. Not sure why she thought the box was her own personal poo holder...

Florencex · 19/10/2020 15:41

We bring our poop bags home and put them in our bin. If we are in a dog park we would use the dog poop bins rather than bring home.

Mydogisagentleman · 19/10/2020 15:42

I’ve used other people’s bins for my double bagged tiny turds.
I’ve also left one in the back of my car for a couple of days when I knew there wasn’t a poo bin.
It was rank. Sunshine+ dog droppings = a vom inducing stink

pinkbalconyrailing · 19/10/2020 15:43

yanbu
it's vile.
we got a bin lock for that reason. so ner.

LemonLymanDotCom · 19/10/2020 16:21

I have a dog but actively choose not to do this. I either bring it home for my bins (fortunately small dog = small poo) or drop in a public bin. Dog poo is rank enough but it was my choice to get a dog, not a neighbours, so they shouldn’t have to suffer the consequences.

Recently, I busted some kid dropping their dog poo in my mums garden bin (over the garden fence), I fished it out, gave it back (socially distanced) & told her where the nearest public bin was. At least she had the good grace to apologise. Hopefully she didn’t just go drop it in a bin up the road!

FOJN · 19/10/2020 16:49

LindyLou2020

I can't speak for all areas or dog owners but among dog owners I do know we hang the poo bags in an obvious place so we don't forget to collect them on the return journey when we're doing a circular walk. Some owners will collect up bags that aren't theirs and put them all in the bin. I would agree it doesn't look great but they belong to dog owners that do clean up after their dogs rather than leaving it for people to step in.

jessstan1 · 19/10/2020 16:51

@ShirleyPhallus

I really wouldn’t care about this

I’d care if the bag was undone and dog shit went everywhere. But bagged up and in the bin, no I wouldn’t care

Same here.
