To not want people putting their dog s*** in my bin?

username3059503 · 19/10/2020 13:59

Genuinely don’t know if I’m BU or not here. Basically the last few times I have had my black bin emptied someone has put their dog crap in my bin after it’s been emptied. It is in a little bag and they have used the bin lid to keep it at the top. AIBU to think they should take it home and put it in their own bin? I personally don’t want to handle someone else’s dog crap and I certainly don’t want it in my bin for the next two weeks until the next collection. AIBU?

Yanbu and I'm a dog owner. I wouldn't even put one loose in my bin as the bag will get squished with all the other rubbish on top 🤮

VentventVENT · 19/10/2020 17:02

While I’d never do this myself as a dog owner, I don’t think I would be fussed of someone did it to me. You don’t touch the buns, it’s bagged etc.
That said I think it’s rude to put anything on someone else’s bin.

SarahAndQuack · 19/10/2020 17:05

It's grim.

I especially loved the time I came home and found Hermes (who are also wankers) had put a parcel in my empty green bin, just before someone added the dog shit. Thanks for that.

Northernlass99 · 19/10/2020 17:05

I wouldn't do this but I can't understand why it would bother anyone. You just put your rubbish in and every two weeks the council collect it. Its not like it is in your house, or you have to go in the bin, or even look in it. You can't smell it, its not touching you. All the rubbish goes to the same place eventually.

namechangeforfriday · 19/10/2020 17:11

I wouldn’t care as long as it’s in a bag and sealed up. It’s a bin, what do you think it’s for?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 19/10/2020 17:11

I am interested by all the people who say it wouldn't bother them-I hate it-my bin is inside a gate and people walk in and up the path to use my bin.

You have to walk by my bin to get to the front door and the poo attracts flies and especially in the hot weather it smells awful.

Please do not use my bin for your dog poo

luckylavender · 19/10/2020 17:12

I'd hate that

Highlights12 · 19/10/2020 17:14

Yanbu. I don't want it stinking my bin out. It's up to the owners to dispose of it in their own bins.

ToastyCrumpet · 19/10/2020 17:21

I think people who say it wouldn’t bother them have never had to deal with the disgusting reality.

Osirus · 19/10/2020 17:24

I had this recently except they left the bag untied- just why?!!!

I moved my bin so it wasn’t so accessible.

DuesToTheDirt · 19/10/2020 17:32

We used to get dog poo regularly dumped in our recycling bin. I bet the council recycling operatives loved that. I painted "No poo in here!" and "Take your poo home" on the bin, and surprisingly it worked.

Svelteinmydreams · 19/10/2020 17:39

Yeah, that’s pretty grim. I have 2 large dogs and their poo gets bagged up and taken to a dog bin on our next walk - it just stinks too much to be in our bin for 2 weeks.

Bitch that I am, I did ask a woman to remove a bag that she had thrown in my bin in passing - about 2 minutes after it was emptied.
Dealing with your own dog poo is pretty easy, and there’s no excuse for leaving it lying, bagged or unbaked.

Svelteinmydreams · 19/10/2020 17:40
  • unbagged. Please leave it unbaked 🤢
EerieSilence · 19/10/2020 17:44

YANBU.
I am a dog owner and I would never throw away her full poo bag into someone's private bin.
It is bad manners and disgusting, on par with people leaving the dog shit just lying there.

LST · 19/10/2020 17:46

I'm a dog owner but wouldn't do this. But also wouldn't care if someone put it in mine as long as it was bagged

Bvop · 19/10/2020 17:49

We have fortnightly collections. My neighbour stuck bags of dog poo in my bin (from 3 dogs) just after it was collected in the summer, then the bin reeked for 2 weeks and the bag split when our rubbish was on top. 🤮

ArtichokeAardvark · 19/10/2020 17:51

YANBU. When I lived in London this used to happen all the time as we only had a low wall in front of the house and people just reached over to chuck poo bags into our bins on the other side. The problem is that we lived on a narrow street without access for bin lorries so the binmen would just lift our big rubbish bags out of the bins, leaving a mess of poo bags at the bottom of our bin for us to deal with. Fucking disgusting.

Purpledaisychain · 19/10/2020 17:51

YANBU. I have a dog and wouldn't do that. If there is no public bins available, I take it home and put it in the bin here.

Halliehallie9828 · 19/10/2020 17:55

Who even looks in their bin today know if something was in their.
I couldn’t get worked up over it Aslong as it was bagged.
A bin is a bin, it’s not going to take up much space so I can’t fit my own crap in there.

MarinPrime · 19/10/2020 17:59

I’d care if the bag was undone and dog shit went everywhere. But bagged up and in the bin, no I wouldn’t care

I'd care no matter how well it's wrapped.
Dog shit stinks to high heaven, even when it's double bagged. I don't want to smell it every time I lift the lid of the bin.

My own dog's deposits get taken to the nearest dog poo bin.

ProfessorofCunning · 19/10/2020 18:14

All and sundry use our bin for coffee cups, dog waste, nappies. You mention it we’ve had it. Bin men don’t take anything that’s not bagged up, so we have to empty our bin of other people’s detritus in order for it to be taken away. It’s revolting, especially in the height of summer when it’s hot. We now have a lock as we can’t move our bin off the lane as our entryways are too narrow. They place stuff next to it 🙄 these are people on holiday/visiting not bothering to use the twenty or so public bins easily available to them - we are a small community in a high tourist area so they are well catered for.

I can't speak for all areas or dog owners but among dog owners I do know we hang the poo bags in an obvious place so we don't forget to collect them on the return journey when we're doing a circular walk. Some owners will collect up bags that aren't theirs and put them all in the bin. I would agree it doesn't look great but they belong to dog owners that do clean up after their dogs rather than leaving it for people to step in.

Thanks FOJN for that interesting explanation - but I'm afraid it doesn't cut it for me. I DO appreciate your reply, and don't want to become a keyboard warrior about this........but why can't dog owners simply carry the poo bags with them until they get home/find a bin? I used to have dogs and that's what I did - the bags are hardly heavy. You're right in that it's better than leaving poo on the ground, but it looks disgusting. As someone else has said, you have a dog AND all the responsibility that goes with it. Sorry to rant!
TroysMammy · 19/10/2020 18:22

For all those saying it's a bin, a dog shit bag was placed in my food waste bin so I've got to take it out before I can put bags of left over food in it. Is this acceptable because I don't think so?

VinylDetective · 19/10/2020 18:22

@IMNOTSHOUTING

I wouldn't care personally but I've never cleaned my bin in my life (I didn't even realise that was a thing) so I probably wouldn't even notice it was in there and it would just get disposed of the next time the bin men come.
Same here. I can’t conceive of any circumstances in which I’d clean a bin.
Daisydoesnt · 19/10/2020 18:24

It’s absolutely not ok and I’m a dog owner myself. Especially if they are putting the poo bag into an empty bin.

The weight of two weeks worth of rubbish squashes the bag and makes it split open. It’s happened to me in my own bin, and it’s beyond rank to sort out.

I think I’d be inclined to leave a note for the offender.
