Am I wrong to turn my nose up at this make of car? Hubby wants to consider them but honestly just the name doesn’t appeal to me.

Any one with a Skoda love or hate them?

Having an open, flexible attitude is great. You should try it.

CaramelCandle · 20/10/2020 12:53

I drove my skoda up and down the country many time, once doing 2000miles in the space of a week and the car never let me down. Absolutely rock solid fantastic car. I now have an audi but miss my skoda dearly, best car I've ever had.

BestIsWest · 20/10/2020 12:54

We also owned a SEAT for years and it was a fantastic car. Worth comparing them too OP, same VAG stable.

Carrotcakey · 20/10/2020 13:49

I can’t believe how many people wouldn’t be drive a very good quality car because of an outdated stereotype.

It’s really a very sad indicator of the “keeping up with the joneses” show-off society that we live near. Where many people are getting themselves into debt to have these things.

Good for us sad losers who drive them, keeps the price down a bit I guess!

Carrotcakey · 20/10/2020 13:53

Sorry, fat fingers but you get the gist.

Why are people so worried what other people think of them? Which is what it comes down to in the end. 😞

Allergictoironing · 20/10/2020 14:29

I remember many years ago watching a program on TV where they had half a dozen or so very similar cars with all identifying info removed, and asked some members of the public to say which they liked the best. They then "re-badged" the cars and showed the list prices, and again asked the same people to give their preference.

The results from the same people were wildly different once they knew the makes - despite the not insignificant price difference, the majority changed their preference to a more "elite" make e.g. from Vauxhall to Audi. All based on the name/badge.

bachsingingmum · 20/10/2020 14:39

I had BMW and Merc estates for decades on work leases. I went for a Superb last time and loved it so much I've bought it. It doesn't in any way feel inferior. I don't care a jot what anyone else thinks.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/10/2020 14:48

I know i feel bad as it should be a great car but I just have this thing in the back of my head it’s a Skoda

There's an easy solution to that. Spend an extra £8k on pretty much the same car with an Audi badge on it.

Car world definition of more money than sense. If someone offered you an Audi, or a brand new Skoda and £8k cashback are you seriously saying that you'd rather have the Audi?

I've driven various Skodas for years and they're great cars. Some years ago I was sat in my new Octavia VRS in a carpark having lunch when I became aware of two men poking around behind the car. Worried I was about to get carjacked, I locked the doors and prepared to drive away. Only to hear one man say to the other in a surprised voice 'but but but, it's a Skoda but it's really nice Grin.

In the nicest possible way, that little voice in your head is talking shit.

Brefugee · 20/10/2020 15:01

they are excellent cars. As PP said - they are basically VW but built elsewhere

TheDuchessofMalfy · 20/10/2020 15:07

I think they are v good cars.

That said, exh has one so that puts me off!

The one he has is very “old man” looking.

Mind you, my car was all chosen by him (for himself) prior to divorce - he wanted to keep something else so I got the newer car in better working order - and he got the crap one (not the Skoda, which is new). So I can’t complain about his tastes!

QuestionableMouse · 20/10/2020 15:20

@Sexnotgender Superbs are VAST. Lots of leg room, enormous boot, comfortable to drive, especially long distances. Usually have a bit more stuff than the Octavias too because they were the flagship car for a long time.

Sexnotgender · 20/10/2020 15:31

Thanks @QuestionableMouse Smile

Swimmum1206 · 20/10/2020 15:36

We've had 4 Skodas over the years and have loved them. DH has had an Octavia and a Rapid and I've had 2 Fabias. The only reason we don't have them now is that they have improved so much over the years and have become so popular and they have become extremely expensive. I've stuck with the same group and have a Seat, DH has gone for Dacia this time.

Snoozysnoozy · 20/10/2020 15:40

I loved my Octavia which I only had for a year until I was forced to swap it out for a ford galaxy due to increase in family. They're basically Volkswagen or Seat with a different badge.

Nootkah · 20/10/2020 15:41

YABU. I'm on my third. They're VWs in different clothes.

SpaceOP · 20/10/2020 15:44

We love ours. But I do think some of them can be ugly. We have the Octavia that's supposedly a hatchback and it's 100% times more attractive than the estate. I doubt we'll ever buy anything else now - great value for money, reliable, comfortable etc.

voteforsanity · 20/10/2020 15:45

It's a slippery slope, OP. First you buy a Skoda, next you may consider a visit to "Eastern Europe."

DefNotDeadYet · 20/10/2020 15:50

@Haggisfish

I loved my Skoda and would happily have another one.
I love my current Fabia and am seriously considering a new one. It's been our family runaround for a while, I love how the seats go completely flat at the back making the boot enormous. So reliable as well.

We've also had an Octavia VRS hatchback and an Octavia estate, which had pretty much every extra on it you can have and was still under £30k brand new. And we were not disappointed when we sold it either because people want to buy them. Great cars.

smeerf · 20/10/2020 15:54

We just bought a top of the range Superb estate PHEV for work. It feels like a limo and we use it like a van, it's so massive inside. It costs nothing to run as we have a charger and is exempt from the congestion charge until next year. I can fit 3 car seats across the back and three pushchairs in the boot. I just wish the Kodiaq had a PHEV option too, I'd swap my personal car for it in a second!

Monkeybunkey · 20/10/2020 15:55

DP has a Yeti and loves it. We do a lot of DIY and with the seats down it's got as much room in as a van so it's brilliant for trips to the timber yard and then subsequent visits to the tip! I've currently got a Lexus IS250 but am seriously considering the Octavia RS when I finally get round to changing my car.

DefNotDeadYet · 20/10/2020 15:56

Oh, and watch Police Interceptors and the like, the police love them Grin

Amrythings · 20/10/2020 15:58

Only reason I didn't get another after DH wrote off the Fabia is that we needed more room in the back, and you can't lay hands on an Octavia or Superb estate for love nor money here, the taxi men love them and there's a waiting list a year long.

Burnthurst187 · 20/10/2020 16:03

Skoda is a very good make of car and is part of the Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) which includes Seat too

Thirty years ago Skoda were seen as junk but not anymore I promise you. I would 100% have one

user1471565182 · 20/10/2020 16:11

Skoda always were a great company. The Germans managed to conquer most of europe with them

user1471565182 · 20/10/2020 16:12

Having said that it is my ambition to own a Yugo
